3. Your Professional Brand
„ Your Brand is what other people say
about you when you are not in the room ”
Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder Amazon
4. How do people describe you when you’re not
in the room?
My three words:
• Hard-working
• Passionate
• Learner
Other’s words:
• Manager: Accountable,
innovative, team player, leader
• Co-worker on my team: Intense
• Peer: Productive and energetic
• Project coworker: Structured
• Cross-functional coworker:
Passionate and dedicated
• Friend: Smart
6. To be seen..
• A promotion opportunity recently came up in Patrick's
department. The work matched his skills perfectly, so
he was shocked when he didn't get an interview,
especially when he learned that the successful
candidate was less experienced than him.
• When Patrick asked his boss why he hadn't been
considered for the role, she said the choice panel
didn't know anything about him, so she couldn't
convince them that he was the proper person for the
work .
• Conversely, the successful applicant was documented
to the panel – she had built strong connections with
influential people and had represented the
department at company-wide gatherings.
• As a result, they knew what she could do.
7. To be seen…
• Unfortunately, this is often a standard
scenario.
• People that get noticed get the simplest
assignments, while those that keep their
heads down miss out, despite their
diligence
• So how are you able to increase your
visibility at work, without bragging or
stealing the spotlight from your
colleagues?
10. Visibilty is……
1.) To be seen
2.) To be heard
3.)To be involved
4. )To be invited to
important meetings
5.) To be delegated
6.) To be valued
11. What is visibility?
Visibility refers to “the state of being able to see or be seen.”
Traditionally in organizations, this means offering employees the
opportunity to attend events, showcase talents, represent the team,
meet key leaders, or otherwise see or be seen.
12. Who’s job is to
provide visibility?
Research* consistently finds that employees across the
generational spectrum believe that one of a manager’s
fundamental roles is to support the development of his or
her employees. And yet, in most organizations, the level of
satisfaction with that development remains relatively low.

Beliefs-Practices-Report.pdf
14. Why Be More Visible?
• Is it enough to be good at your job?
• It isn't only what you recognize that matters – it's who you recognize, too.
• You can't always believe others to extend your visibility.
• You might not be an extrovert.
15. Own your personal brand
How are you unique and what differentiates you from your peers,
colleagues and senior professionals?
What do you want the powerful, clear and positive ideas that comes to
mind when people think of you?
Tell your audience:
• Who you are
• What you do
• What makes you unique
• What value you add to the situation and create for others
• What do you care about and believe in?
Values
Abilities
Style
Actions
16. „Just so we’re all clear: we all have a personal
brand, wheter we want one or not, wheter we
like it or not. Either you can shape it, or you can
have someone else define it for you.”

17. THE HOW?
What makes you most excited?
What comes „easy” for you?
(that may not come easy for others)
When are you in flow?
How do you help others?
How do you contribute to the world?
• Be authentic.
• Personal brand comes from
passion, skills, goals, and
values.
• It’s a result of a person’s hunt
for fulfillment and meaning.
18. How to Improve Your Visibility
within the Workplace
Your actions
• What role do you play on a team & in the workplace
(Team Player, Go-getter, etc.)
• What groups and comitees are you involved in?
• What boards are you on?
• Where and how you network?
• What are your conversations around the office like?
• 93 % of communication comes from nonverbal cues
– physical brand drivers (posture, eye-rolling etc.)

19. How to Improve Your Visibility
within the Workplace
1.) Speak Up In Meetings
• Do you feel comfortable sharing your ideas in meetings,
or does one feel shy, because you're worried about how
others will react?
• Meetings (online and offline) offer you an excellent
opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and
increase your visibility within your team or department.
If you do not speak up currently, work on developing
your self-confidence , in order that you are feeling easier
being the middle of attention.
• To plan what you'll say during a meeting, read the
agenda beforehand and believe the questions you would
like to ask or the points you would like to form.

20. 2.) Strengthen Your Relationship
With Your Leader
• It's a good idea to speak to your boss
periodically about your work, even if
you have a proper evaluation
(performance and career review)
process. Use this time to debate what's
going well, to invite suggestions on
how you'll add more value to the team,
and to seek out about opportunities to
raise your profile.
21. 3.) Ask for High-Visibility Projects
• Does your team do anything that needs it to work
with people in other teams or departments? Or are
there any assignments you could take on that have a
big impact on your organization's bottom line?
• Don't wait for your manager to assign these
projects to you – ask to work on them when you
find out about them. They'll help you build
relationships with people in other parts of the
organization, and you might get more exposure to
decision makers such as senior managers and
executives.
• Be proactive

22. 4.) Volunteer to Represent Your Team
• If your team sends a representative to cross-
departmental meetings, ask your boss if you can
attend. You could also volunteer to speak at project
or committee meetings, or at company town hall /
all employee or external meetings.
• You might consider joining a speaking group such
as Toastmasters, so that you can practice your skills
regularly.

23. 5.) Participate in Learning
Opportunities
• Company-wide training events, such as
seminars or "lunch and learn" sessions,
provide great opportunities for you to
become better known within your
organization. When you attend them,
make effort to contribute to
discussions, and partner with people
you don't already know in "break out"
sessions, so that you can build your
network.

24. 6.)Demonstrate Your Expertise
• Develop your trusted advisor / expert status
• First, choose an area to build your experteese in.
For instance, you may have a talent for dealing
with unhappy customers. Or, perhaps you're great
at managing your priorities. Choose an area that
excites you and that you already have some
knowledge of.
• You can raise your profile further by sharing what
you know. For example, you could write a regular
blog for your company's intranet or produce
articles that you distribute throughout your
organization. You could also offer to train people
or speak about your area of expertise at company
events. Just be sure to provide plenty of value for
your audience!

25. 7.) Network outside of your core
team
• Develop your trusted advisor / expert persona
online
• Yammer is like your corporate Facebook – use it
for development of your personal brand
• You can easily identify who are the most active
member of the community and who are the
experts you can raise your questions to
• Know which platform works best for sharing
personal vs. Professional content
• Make sure your privacy settings are up-to-date
• Follow people who inspire you and contribute to
molding your personal brand

28. 8.) Form a Mastermind Group
• If your organization doesn't offer opportunities for you
to connect with people in other departments, you
could create a MasterMind Group based on a common
interest. For instance, you could set up a group for
people who are at the same stage in their career as
you, or you could meet with people who want to learn
a specific transferable skill.
• This will demonstrate your leadership ability and help
you build even more new relationships.

29. 9.) Grow Your Network
• Clearly, you won't get to know others inside your organization
if you spend your time hanging out with the same people
every day. Although these colleagues may be advocates for
you, your personal support base should extend well beyond
your immediate team!
• To grow your network further, be strategic. Write down your
networking objectives and think about how best to reach the
people you want to build relationships with.
• Also, remember that you can network with others in your
organization outside the confines of the working day. Find out
where they socialize, and see if you can get involved too. Or,
organize an informal after-hours meet up, and invite people
from other departments.
• Do something for your organization's chosen nonprofit, or ask
your company to sponsor you to take part in a charity race or
other fundraising event.

30. 10.) Find a Mentor
• Mentors can offer invaluable
advice on getting noticed, and
they can provide objective
feeback to you and help you
career development, within the
company and further growth.
31. 11.) Get a coach
Business coaching will help you
discover your passion and purpose,
build your abilities, improve your
communication skills and self-
confidence, find your strengths
that will drive achievement and
purpose.

33. +1 Highlight Others' Achievements
• Finally, bear in mind that you don't just
have to focus on yourself to raise your
visibility in your organization.
• Be humble – highlight other people's
achievements, and always share the
credit with those who have helped you
along the way.
