JOB TITLE: Business Unit Manager REPORTS TO: Director of Manufacturing LOCATION / DEPT: Milwaukee / Operations
JOB SUMMARY: Works in a collaborative team environment applying the DDMS manufacturing principles, based on the Toyota Production System, towards a goal of
creating and supporting a continuous improvement environment. Lead Production and Support Business Units organized by product families or
responsibility. Participates in and/or leads team projects targeted on improving the SQDC metrics to obtain best in class standards of performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Promote a safe workplace and act in a safe manner at all times while proactively eliminating unsafe work conditions.
Comply with and support company rules and procedures.
Plan and manage all business unit resources (i.e. manpower, capital, equipment and inventory) while visualizing constraints, identifying inefficiencies and implementing solutions.
Support business unit staff to implement, prioritize and execute SQDC continuous improvement opportunities through the Management of Daily Improvement program.
Lead and train Production Supervisors, Buyer / Planners, Continuous Improvement personnel, Shop Floor Associates and other business unit support staff in DDMS methodologies and tools
targeting the elimination of waste, improved cycle time, reduced inventory, increased capacity, right sized manpower, improved flexibility and increased quality.
Lead, participate and train organization personnel on Kaizen, 3P, Root Cause / Corrective Action and other related lean tools to ensure proper project execution to meet or exceed project
deliverables.
Implement production strategies to meet or exceed out “Best in Class” Quality and On-Time & Perfect Delivery while producing product in the most cost effective manner.
Communicate and coordinate productively with all departments (i.e. engineering, global sourcing, marketing, sales, accounting, etc.) and locations on projects such as the launch of new or
upgraded products, the implementation of new processes and the integration of new equipment.
Communicate productively with customers to identify their needs and drive internal improvements to meet or exceed their expectations.
Coordinate productively with suppliers to communicate internal needs and drive supplier improvements to meet or exceed expectations.
EDUCATION: Four year degree in engineering or related field required. MBA is not required but beneficial.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPENTENCIES: Working knowledge of lean principles based on Toyota Production System; experienced leader with demonstrated
quantifiable results; knowledge of manufacturing processes; hands on experience in a manufacturing environment; project management and problem
solving skills; computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Access, etc); oral and written presentation skills.
DIRECT REPORT RESPONSIBITIES: Business Unit Manager is responsible for operation and support staff; including the following: Business Unit Supervisors and
Buyer / Planners, and Supervisors in Continuous Improvement, Safety/Facility, Powder Coat, and Shipping/Receiving.
