Augmented reality is poised to disrupt all strategies in the marketing mix. With Facebook releasing the ability to deliver rich AR ad units through Ads Manager, we figured we'd put together a quick run through of the mechanics.
2. Leveraging Paid Strategies with AR
Augmented reality is only going to become a more
widely used tool in the marketing mix. For this reason,
Facebook and Instagram developed a clear path to
integrating AR into an ad unit for its existing Ads
Manager which supports the Facebook Mobile News
Feed. AR ad units currently support the following
outcomes in Ads Manager:
● Brand Awareness
● Reach
● Traffic
● Conversion
3. Step 1: Publish Your AR Effect
Work with Illust Agency to craft your clever AR
experience in SparkAR. SparkAR is not only the
software that brings your AR creation to life but is
also where Ads Manager can access the effect.
Once Facebook approves the AR effect, your AR ad
unit is ready for selection in Ads Manager.
Note: You can update your effect after it’s published. The new version of the
effect will become available in Ads Manager after Facebook’s reviewed it. If
you're already using the effect in an ad, the ad will automatically update with
the new version.
4. Step 2: News Feed
Video Creation
In order to drive the greatest visibility for
your incredible AR piece, it starts with an
eye catching video. By simply clicking on
this video your audience will be brought
into the augmented reality world of your
brand. With careful consideration for copy,
sensitivity for your brand ethos, and a
proper representation for the AR effect,
your audience will be using the AR effect in
no time.
5. Step 3: Create Your Ad
1. Go to Ads Manager.
2. Click + Create.
3. Select an objective that supports Augmented Reality Ads (Brand Awareness,
Reach, Traffic or Conversions) and click Continue.
4. Select your audience, placements and budget and click Continue.
5. Below Format, click Single Image or Video.
6. Upload your feed video.
7. Select the checkbox next to Add an Instant Experience, select Add AR
Experience.
8. Click Use Template to open the Add an AR Experience window.
9. Click Effect and choose the effect you want to use from the dropdown menu.
Note: Only effects approved by Spark AR appear in the dropdown menu.
10. Add the Website URL and Call to Action, then click Done.
11. Click Text Overlay and choose the action from the dropdown menu, you can
choose Tap to try it on, Tap to interact, or Tap to see it in your space.
12. To preview your Augmented Reality Ad, click Preview on Mobile. We’ll save your
augmented reality effect and send you a notification in the Facebook app to
open a preview on your phone.
13. In your Facebook app, tap the notification to open your preview.
14. When you’re happy with your Augmented Reality Ad, click Done.
6. Step 4: Track Your Metrics
In addition to the metrics provided by Ads Manager, Spark AR
provides additional visibility metrics for all published AR filters.
Total Impressions: the number of times an effect has been
displayed on screen
Camera Impressions: Impressions derived from playing with
the filter with the phone’s camera
Story impressions: Impressions derived from views of the filter
in a story
Captures: The number of times someone captured a photo or
video that featured your effect in the camera
Shares: The number of times someone took and shared a
photo or video that featured your effect to a story
