Job Purpose: Provide an overview of the responsibilities of the job by providing a summary of the most important
aspects and duties of the job (1-2 sentences).
The Masonite Innovation Center is a diverse mixture of intensive R&D, engineering, laboratory testing and
evaluation operations, product performance testing, raw material qualification, and around-the –clock-
manufacturing operations. It is the technical resource center for the Global Organization. All aspects
including many specifically under this job function are strategically critical to Masonite’s business.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering and under the daily guidance of the Lead CAD Designer and the
Testing Engineer, the Engineering Technician – CAD Design and Testing technician will focus on the
CAD design and testing of doors, door components and door systems across all Masonite product lines.
Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Responsibilities:
• The position will be involved in the CAD design and testing of doors, door components
and door systems as well as refining and evaluating existing door designs in conjunction
with the Engineering staff.
• The position operates as the support function for the CAD Design and Testing staff and
must work closely with all other functions within the Engineering Team and other
Masonite Divisions as applicable.
• The position must develop a technical understanding of all Masonite manufacturing
processes and products, in order to understand CAD design and testing requirements.
• Demonstrate ownership in area of responsibility of supporting all design and testing
activities.
• Interact and effectively communicate with all levels within the Company as well as
outside suppliers and customers.
• Hands-on position in testing lab environment requiring practical knowledge and skills to
use a variety of hand tools, power tools, jigs and fixtures. Position requires lifting and
moving of different materials up to 40 pounds periodically throughout the day.
• Exercise judgment and discretion within established policies, procedures and recognized
practices.
2. Qualifications:
• Excellent knowledge of common computer drafting tools (AutoCAD, Inventor) and
Microsoft Office applications. Must be able to effectively apply such knowledge as well as
fundamental design and drafting principles and generate 3-D models and drawings as
required.
• Associate Degree or higher in Engineering discipline (mechanical, civil, chemical, or
materials engineering)
• 3+ years of experience in CAD design of engineered components and systems (doors,
windows, or similar industries) fabricated from wood, fiberglass, steel, thermoplastics,
inorganic materials, and adhesives.
• Excellent multi-tasking capabilities with the ability to effectively adjust to priority
changes
• Able to manage and conduct technical work as assigned with minimal supervision.
• Prefer background in the engineering of sealing, insulated (thermal & sound), fire
resistant composite systems (doors, windows, automotive, appliance, and other building
industries)
• Prefer background in engineering with wood, composites, plastics, fiberglass, and
adhesively bonded systems including understanding failure modes of these materials.
• Prefer background in testing of engineered components (performance, environmental,
regulatory testing).
• Must be a team player and able to effectively demonstrate and follow all Masonite
