Current Role – Product Development Manager (PDM Level 3).
I have worked on various product design and process design projects both in a Management role (12
years) and Engineering design role (5 years). As a result of my experience and opportunities I have
the skills to adapt to the workshop, product development, coaching, management, development and
use of quality processes. I have worked with the production/operations staff in New Zealand and
overseas. I have also coordinated projects and equipment builds with contractors both in New
Zealand and Overseas.
Management
• Product Development Manager for the 950 mechanical team. I current manage 11 direct reports
and one sub team of 7 people.
• Business case development.
• Recruitment/interviewing for Engineering roles, Quality roles, and Customer services roles. Hires
have ranged from Student to Senior Engineering level.
• Managed production line implementation overseas
• Supervision, training and coaching of employees. Ensured employees are challenged, engaged,
can demonstrate teamwork and are sought after by other teams.
• Process Validation Champion.
• Ensuring team members training requirements are satisfied.
• Managed projects involving multiple teams and diverse pieces of equipment.
• Facilitated project meetings and design reviews.
• Presentations to senior management when required.
• Ensured project management and documentation meet design procedures.
• Worked closely with Operations Management and Production staff during design and
implementation.

Project Planning

Process Design & Build
• CAD/CAM using PRO/Engineer and Solidworks.

• Automated assembly and test robotics using pneumatic or servo actuators.
• Experience with plastic drying, extrusion, tube corrugators, tube cutters, moulding machines,
insert moulding, ultrasonic welding, film slitting, spiral tube forming, belt and chain conveyor
systems, wire and tape winding systems, visual recognition systems.
• Design of manual workstations including PCB and plastic component assembly. Experience with
Poke Yoke (fool proofing of workstations).
• Contracted machine building to overseas and local companies.
• Development of SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for process description, operation,
process monitoring tasks and health & safety. This included operator training sessions.
• Development of Technical manuals and Maintenance tasks for calibration, and maintenance.
• Utilized the Potential Failure mode and Effects Analysis method to develop failure prevention and
detection methods.
• Involved in software development reviews (Requirements, Specifications, Verification)
• Used DOE methods for process optimization.
Health & Safety
• Health & Safety Risk Analysis AS 4024.1.
• Interlocked guard design to AS 4024.1.
• Developed guard solutions for extruders, assembly robotics, pallet conveyors, electrical safety
testers, PCB testers, re-winding machines.
Process Validation
• Validation planning for product, operational, health & safety, and software requirements.
• Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualification for automated and manual medical
device manufacturing processes.
• Completed SPAP with multiple suppliers (local and Overseas)
• Test equipment validation including component measurement (Go/No Go, OGP Smartscope),
Leak testers Flow testers, Automated visual inspection, Resistance testers.
Lean Manufacturing & Process Improvement
• Current and future state Value Stream Mapping.
• Identification of the 7 wastes and reduction through design.
• Design of single piece flow “pull” production equipment.
• Cost out thru automation.
Product Design, Build & Verification
• Product design including concept development, review, detailed design and design transfer.
• Improvement of product performance and responsible for reliability/safety.
• Working with tool designers and tool makers to produce and commission injection mould tooling.
• Verified product to IEC 60601-1 mechanical standards.
Travel
• Sept 2013 Visited K2013 plastics show in Dusseldorf Germany. Visited hospitals in the UK
(Liverpool) to discuss experiences with our core products.
• May – December 2010. Four visits to Mexico to implement manufacturing lines two manufacturing
processes.
• February 2010 Visited Medical Device & Manufacturing Show in Los Angeles. Presented the
proposals for manufacturing lines to the Mexico team.
• December 2006. Visited Sahm, and Muller to trial a film slitting and winding line. Visited Gillard to
discuss tube extrusion cutter specification.
• October-November 2004. Visited K2004 plastics show in Dusseldorf Germany. Visited Engel
Gmbh moulding machine factories in Swertberg and St Valentine Austria. Visited UK sales office
and spent time with sales reps in London, Ipswich, Nottingham, Sheffield, and Leeds.
• February 2002. Visited Medical Device & Manufacturing Show in Los Angeles.

• Built two competition cars (1990 Toyota MR2, 1970 MG Midget MK3).
