◦Metric System is a decimal system of measures
based on a unit of length known as meter, from
the Greek word metron means “measure”.
◦The unit of measurement more commonly used
is centimeter.

◦The basic unit of the English System is inches.
However, it is not frequently used in
dressmaking. It is utilized by some of the
designers.

• To convert your millimeter
figure to centimeter, divide the
value by 10.
• To convert your centimeter
figure to millimeter, multiply
the value by 10.

in decimal form, divide the
numerator by the denominator.

have an accurate division of the measurements
of body parts and at the same time, in
measuring the length and width of the materials.
In this process, the four fundamentals of
operations such as Multiplication, Division,
Addition and Subtraction is involved.

DIVIDE your figure by 2.54.
Example:
42 cm ÷ 2.54 = 16.5354 in
