3. WHY HAVE I CHOSEN THIS SONG?
• The meaningful lyrics – the narrative within the song gives the song more depth and I
want to implicate this in my video.
• Due to it being quite a slow song it will be easier to edit in terms of lip synching.
• The original video is quite abstract and confusing – so I have more creative leeway with
this song as the song is open to interpretation.
• This is a solo singer, and I’ve already found an actress to play the part.
4. INITIAL IDEAS …
I plan to have elements of both performance and narrative within my video as I believe that this
would be quite successful and necessary as I want my artist to connect with her audience through the
performance side but still tell a story as this is a narrative song.
Aim of video:
• I want this video to have an auto-biographical feel as I want my audience to connect with my artist.
Hence why I've chosen to film my video as if it was a documentary.
I want my character to have two persona’s:
1. Glamorous pop star – I envisioned an Audrey Hepburnesque type dress with dinner gloves for
when she’s on stage performing
2. In denial alcoholic – here she’ll be dressed in a tracksuit, I’d show her turning up to dance
rehearsals late, constantly being seen drinking out of a “coffee cup” (really drinking alcohol.)
5. … INITIAL IDEA’S CONTINUED
• Through the use of performance I want my artist to be the narrator so it is like she’s
letting us into her life and reflecting on a past event.
• I want the audience to connect with my character and empathise with her, so I want this
to video to be a bildungsroman (coming of age) story at the end of the video I want her
to finally admit to needing help.
6. Possible locations:
• Camden roundhouse/ Jazz cafe/ coffee
shop - Performance and Narrative
• Camden lock- at night - Narrative
• Stage classroom- party scene - Narrative
• Off licence - Narrative
• Stage – Performance and Narrative
• Camden high street – Narrative
• Primrose hill - Narrative
• Toilets - Narrative
• Alleyway - Narrative
7. CHOSEN ACTRESS
Name: Amber cousins
Why I chose her?
• She goes to the same school as me, so it is easy for me to contact her.
• She’s a drama student - so should be a believable actress in my video.
• Very photogenic.
• She has the sultry look which suits the vibe of the song.
8. PROPS, COSTUME AND MAKE-UP
When she’s not being a star I want
her to look grubby and tired.
This is the look that I want my
artist to have when on stage.
As there is a lyric that
says “put your lipstick
on,” I thought it would
be effective if I illustrated
this, as it symbolises the
mask she puts on for the
public.
Here is my artists other costume, when
she’s away from the spotlight.
