Fabric Inspection as per 4 Point System
4-Point System, a standard established under ASTM D5430
– 07(2011), is a standardized Test Methods for fabric Visually
Inspecting and Grading. The final purpose is to find out the
defects of the fabric in per 100 square yards.
Size of Defect Penalty Points
Length of defects in fabric (either length or width)
Defects up to 3 inches 1
Defects > 3 inches < 6 inches 2
Defects > 6 inches < 9 inches 3
Defects > 9 inches 4

Shade Segregation
Shade variation in a garment occurs when different
garment components have a varied depth of colors
(shade) or mismatch of shades in garment parts of
the same garment.

9
Shading Check
Shade is depth of color or hue. It is a common word in
dyeing, printing and finishing unit of a garments.
Fabric shade variation is a major issue in garments.
10
Twisting/Bowing Check
The test procedure is to untwist the yarn until all its
twist has been removed and then to continue twisting
the yarn in the same direction, until it returns to its
original length.
Measurement
11
Padding Check
Synthetic fiber padding Goose down padding Natural fiber padding
12
Down/Padding Migration
The advantages of the innovative padding:-
 Optimal breathability for greater comfort, making it ideal
for sportswear
 Very good insulation properties
 Material is extremely soft and feels fluffy
 Easy to process, just like conventional padding
 Cost savings compared to processing down or loose
fibers
 More possibilities and freedom in terms of design, as
the material can not slip or clump together
 High rebound behavior, which also enables better
packaging and significantly lower transport costs

Hydrostatic / Sutter Test
Hydrostatic Test Is A Pressure Test In Which The Pipe Or
Other Component Is Pressurized To Evaluate Its Integrity.
Common Hydrostatic Testing Methods:
1. Water Jacket Method
2. Direct Expansion Method
3. Proof Pressure Method
4. Alternative Methods
16
DWR Test
• DWR stands for “durable water repellent,” a thin layer
of liquid applied to the outside of technical garments
to repel oil, grease, dirt, and water.
• DWR prevents fabric from becoming weighed down
by excess moisture, leaving the wearer to enjoy
comfort and optimized freedom of movement.
17
Odor Check
Odor control technology is simple. It prevents and/or
captures unpleasant odors across a wide array of
products including athletic shoes, running shorts, yoga
pants, and more without negatively impacting the hand
and moisture management properties of the fabric.
The 4 types of odor control:-
a. Chemical Adsorption.
b. Biological Oxidation.
c. Chemical Scrubbing.
d. Combined Technologies..
18
Quilting Check
Quilting is the term given to the process of joining a
minimum of three layers of fabric together either through
stitching manually using a needle and thread, or
mechanically with a sewing machine or specialized
longarm quilting system.
19
Hand Feel Check
The “hand” of a fabric refers to the “feel” of the fabric
against your skin. There are many adjectives that can be
used to describe the hand, or feel, of a fabric.
 Words like cool
 Slick
 Smooth
 Loose
 Stiff
 Heavy
 stretchy
It can all be used to tell someone about the hand of a
fabric.
20
Color Continuity Card
•Color continuity card help to determine and control
color variation between lots printed/delivered in
different time.
•Color continuity card is not a substitute of Approved
sample rather it works besides approved sample as
supplementary advantage .
•It is important to store color continuity card in good
environment and not exposed to direct sunlight
