Here me and my group have looked at what age group we classify our film using the BBFC information. We looked at the context, tone and impact to help us work out what age group would be suitable.
This PowerPoint helps students to consider the concept of infinity.
BBFC
1. BBFC Post:
BBFC stands for the British Board of Film Classification and is the UK's regulator of film and video,
providing age ratings such as U, PG and 12A. This is designed to protect certain people from seeing
things within movies that would be inappropriate and a bad influence on them. They need to take
the context, tone and impact before they start to classify a film. In order to classify the films to
ensure that they are suitable for certain age groups they have to take into account certain aspects
within films such as:
• Discrimination
• Drugs
• Horror
• Language
• Violence
• Sex
• Theme
• Imitable Behaviour
• Nudity
For our film we decided to give it a film rating of 15. This is because we felt that the content within
the film was not too scary but more psychological, playing mind games on the audience. However
there could be some suggestions of imitable behaviour and there is a lot of violence, therefore that
is why it has gained this age rating and we decided it wouldn’t be very suitable to anyone younger
than 15.
Within our film the fact that the main character kills himself would need to be taken into
consideration as it could be upsetting for the audience and so we needed to make sure that it wasn’t
too graphic and so that it was acceptable to the target audience. Also the fact that there are two
quite horrific murders within the film, this is of the wife and daughter of the main character, meant
that we needed to make sure that it wasn’t too awful or gory as again this could have upset the
audience and they didn’t want a lot of gore within the film. This is why it would make it a 15 because
the gore isn’t too excessive. Also there isn’t too much bad language and there is no sex or nudity,
making the film acceptable for 15 year olds and onwards.
Violence Graphic Violence
Language Mild Language
Sex/Nudity No sex and nudity
Themes Horror, Imitable Behaviour, Depression,
