2. Introduction to classifications
In the UK, The British Board of Film Classifications (bbfc) class and record the age
classification of every film to be aired and played in the UK.
The bbfc is an independent, non-governmental body which has classified cinema
films since it was set up in 1912 and DVDs since the Video Recordings Act was
passed in 1984.
Is a non-profit organisation which is wholly funded by the fees it charges for the
service it provides, the length of the DVD’s/video’s that are sent in to be classified,
to then be allowed into the country.

9. Our rating
• Georgia and I both review our film and the storyboard for what age
classification our film would be deemed. We referred closely to the
guidelines from the bbfc as these would be the people who would actually
class our film.
• We decided it had to be a ‘15’ as the use of ‘rape’ and ‘abduction’ would
emphasis on younger children and teens being scared, frightened and
could copy the images on the screen. Later on in the film we may include
use of extreme violence with weapons such as guns.
• We can’t and would never include the use of rape in the film as it actually
being filmed as any use of sexual activity with a minor would result in the
film being cut. Obviously this would be a step too far and we both had no
intention of adding this to the film.
• We also do not plan on using any drug reference if we do then very little
and in context of a legal drug (alcohol) or a drug being taken without it
emphasizing on it and we would not ‘glamourize it’ Currently no drug use
will be seen in the opening of the film and probably will not be used
(except alchol)

10. What our audience said
• Our audience is of an older market, teens and
adults (over 15), with most to all of them
agreeing to a 15 classification as we could not
let 12 year olds watch a film with the element
of abduction.
• Our audience also agree that we should use a
little amount of drug reference and little to no
drug use as this would keep the film open to
15-17 year olds and not restricted to 18+
