Dendrobium nobile- It has purple coloured sepals and petals and a deep blotch on
its lip that is a delight to the eyes of every botanist and tourists. It is the State flower of Sikkim.
The Angel’sTrumpets- The Angel’sTrumpets are fragrant flowers with a peculiar
shape. They are founf all around Sikkim in various colours

of Fern diversity of Sikkim.
Bamboo-Bamboo is one of the most important forest resources in Sikkim. The climate of

Juniperusrecurva-It is a part of coniferous forests of Sikkim. It is found in
large numbers in Sikkim. Its leaves are used to produce incense.
FAUNA

fascinating assemblage of animals arthropods and birds.
ANIMALS-The animal kingdom of Sikkim comprises Snow Leopard, Musk Deer, Himalayan
Tahr, Red Panda, Himalayan Marmot, Goral, Barking Deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Clouded
Leopard, Marbled Cat, Wild Dog, Tibetan Wolf, Jungle Cat etc. Yaks are readily nurtured for their
milk, meat and as a beast to carry burden. Red Panda is state animal of Sikkim.
Arthropods- Sikkim also has a rich diversity of arthropods, many of which remain
unstudied.[73] These mainly include butterflies, beetles and moths.
Approximately,695 butterfly species have been recorded in Sikkim.[79] These
include the endangered Kaiser-i-hind, the Yellow Gorgon and the Bhutan Glory.
BIRDS- The avifauna of Sikkim include the impeyan pheasant, crimson horned
pheasant, snow partridge, Tibetan snowcock, bearded vulture and griffon vulture,
as well as golden eagles, quails, woodcocks,robins etc.Sikkim has more than
550 species of birds, some of which have been declared endangered. Sikkim has
very beautifully preserved its heritage of biodiversity.
Organic Farming
Sikkim has made India proud as it is the first 100% organic state in the
world. All of its farmland is certified organic.
For its noteworthy achievements, holistic approach Sikkim’s State
Policy on Organic Farming (2004) and Sikkim Organic Mission (2010)
were recognized with the Future Policy Gold Award 2018, awarded by
the World Future Council in partnership with the FAO and IFOAM –
Organics International.
Sikkim Organic Mission -Political commitment to support organic
farming in Sikkim began in 2003 and was consolidated in 2010 with
the design of the Sikkim Organic Mission. This policy combines
mandatory requirements, such as banning chemical fertilizers and
pesticides, with support and incentives, thus providing sustainable
alternatives.
4. It also focuses on socio-economic aspects such as consumption and
market expansion, cultural aspects as well as health, education, rural
development and sustainable tourism.
