GEMS school was established in 1984 in Lalitpur with 78 students. It later constructed a new campus in Dhapakhel designed by architect Anju Malla Pradhan in a neoclassical style. The campus includes academic blocks, a hostel, laboratories, sports facilities and more divided into zones. While the design provides symmetry, lighting and separation of facilities, improvements could include addressing congestion and better connecting zones as the school expands further.

24. SYMMETRICAL
The symmetrical plan of the three academic blocks perfectly help
to divide each of the huge masses into two areas, thus
maintaining a balanced distribution of facilities like washrooms
and staircases.
You wouldn’t want to run from one end of the building to another for your
nature’s call will you?
CONNECTION
The central corridor links the classrooms for better movement and
accessibility of facilities for students.
Won’t it be sad if you don’t get to see your crush from the other class during
lunch breaks?
Analysis
25. DIVISION
The laboratories, faculty rooms and the classrooms all are placed
in different zones for better workflow.
Wouldn’t it be sad if your class is right next to a faculty room and you don’t
get to shout during breaks?
LIGHTING
All the classrooms have been placed on the edges of the plan to
give sufficient windows and light passage.
Can you survive a boring lecture without looking outside the window?
26. SHADE
All three blocks provide shade to the central assembly court .
How many of you guys have fallen flat on the ground during a long
assembly?
MULTIPLE COURTS
Multiple playing courts have been provided for each sports which
helps for systematic division.
Imagine all the students running around in a single ground, that would be a
disaster.
27. FACILITY DIVISION
The computer labs and libraries have been divided into two
sections: one for primary and another for secondary for proper
separation.
Imagine having to fight for your favorite comic book with a 4th grade kid.
Shameful right?
And imagine a kid playing minesweeper on your computer while you have a
project deadline. That’d be horrible.
28. AreasofImprovement:Zoning
EXPANSION
•The proposed expansion of the site could
not address the scattering of some
components of the different zones. The
proposed additional sports infrastructure
should be connected with the existing
resources.
CONGESTION
•The girls hostel being in the academic
portion of the school, despite of having
other areas for integration, is
questionable. The residential area should be
planned in a distance from the
academic sections.
LINKAGE
•The administrative zone could be
connected with extra and academic zones
by maintaining a triad structure
between these three. This perspective will
help to create better linking of the
spaces hence contributing towards swift
functioning.

Extras
29. GEMS •Biggest Block is the Central Secondary level Block with around 1200
meter square of Area.
•The Entry gate is north to the site and thus Lower secondary
Academic block gets hit with the morning rays while higher
secondary block gets to see the sunset.
•The entire school can hold up to 6000+ Students in Totality.
FACTS
31. Conclusion.
GEMS is a top ranking institution that our
Nation has to offer, Although the resources
were limited, we put forth every data we
could obtain on the internet.
We now understand how structures of mass
facilitation are organized and how proper
architecture can improve student life and
education.
Gems fulfilled its role of being Grand and Eye
catching in Architecture by providing
facilitation for the brightest minds the nation
has to offer.
