3. Definition:
A morpheme is the minimal unit of meaning.
The meaning that a morpheme gives can be:
Grammatical (for instance, the part of speech,
if the word is plural or singular, the tense of a
verb, etc.)
Lexical (that is the ‘dictionary’ meaning.)
Note:
In linguistics morphemes are indicated by “brace marks”
({ }).

6. 1-FREE MORPHEME
o A free morpheme is one that can be uttered alone

All of these morphemes are free morphemes.
7. 2-BOUND MORPHEME
o A bound morpheme can not be uttered alone with
meaning. It always added to one or morphemes to
form a word.
o Examples
{s} in plays
{re} in replay
{ly} in cheaply
{un} in unable
All of these underline morphemes are bound
morphemes.
