Social Media Audit for The Challenge Program, Inc.
Web 1.0- The Challenge Program, Inc. Website
The Challenge Program, Inc. has a very informative and functional web page that is
very accessible for all spectators such as students, supporters, interested
businesses, and educators. It is full of content that is easy to access with multiple
links to get more in-depth information about a specific topic including participating
schools, newsletters, testimonials, and award winners. The website is in need for
future updates due to its old-fashioned look. These updates should focus on a more
appealing look along with more use of other social media outlets to reach to a
younger audience. The Challenge Program, Inc. is an excellent example of a
website that can be easily changed and upgraded to better fit future visitors. The
site is located at http://www.tcpinc.org.
Suggestions for improving website:
The Challenge Program logo should be made larger at the top of the
homepage because it is important for organizations and companies to show
how important their brand is.
The homepage should have less clutter such as the pictures having borders
instead of being so close together.
The font needs to be made larger on the homepage.
There should be a reorganization of the mission statement and the photos on
the top of the homepage.
The colors should be more bold and appealing on the homepage instead of
gray.
The Facebook and Twitter application should be higher up on the homepage
where visitors can see it right when they enter the site.
The events/calendar link should be larger so viewers can see everything
without having to click to enlarge the calendar.
The TCP news link should have larger font and a more bold color.
Social media should be put onto every link page.
Some information should be more up to date.
The website should be made to be accessible for mobile phones on the
mobile view.
Web 2.0- Social Media
2. It is important for The Challenge Program, Inc. to become more familiar and
involved with social media, especially because their main audience is high school
students. During assemblies hosted by the program, it is recommended to the
students and educators to be involved on Facebook and Twitter. It is the
organizations hope to get students more involved through these forms of social
media.
Even though The Challenge Program, Inc. has been active on their social media
accounts, they are not using it as frequently or effective as they should. Below is an
analysis of new ideas and suggestions for improvement.
Facebook- The organization has an active Facebook page but there are not as
many page “likes” as there should be. There are many pictures uploaded after most
assemblies, but there is still a problem with achieving a much higher page “like”
goal. Some ideas to improve the amount of “likes” include:
The page should be more interactive and exciting.
There should be a link to their Twitter page.
The cover photo should be changed more frequently to show the organization
cares about all schools and students.
If given permission, the program leaders could ask all students during the
assemblies to go and “like” the page.
The page should still be updated with any news even in the off months so
there are always viewers seeing how the organization is going at all times.
The newsletter should be added to the page.
A calendar of events should be added to the page.
There should be student surveys added to the page.
The organization needs to have knowledge of their goals for social media and
determine a plan to gain “likes” and activity on their Facebook page.
Twitter- The organization has a Twitter page and tries to keep it up to date as
much as possible. Even though there are frequent updates, there are still problems
that could be resolved and ways to increase their followers.
Add #TCPIcanwin after every post and periodically throughout the day.
Announce what schools the program will be visiting in advance.
If given permission, have program managers ask the students to go follow
their Twitter page along with using the hash tag #TCPIcanwin.
Give random updates such as news in the organization or a featured award
winner so it gives students incentives to want to win.
Instagram- This is a new and upcoming application for mobile devices that is very
popular among teenagers and young adults. It allows individuals to upload any
photo they take and upload it for friends to see. The company does not currently
have this application but it would be a great addition to their social media. Since
pictures are taken at most assemblies, they could also be posted here and there
may be potential for more likers since this is the newest social media app.
