Homecoming event 2014 Proposal
September 8, 2014
This year’s homecoming will be held on Saturday 26-27, 2014 with theme of Superheroes. As of
now, the theme we have selected is still in the process of being approved. The three options we
selected include Wonder woman, Captain America, and Cat woman.
Our Homecoming Queen nominee this year is Carly Bolton. She is one of the seniors in our
chapter and meets all of the requirements needed for the nominee criteria. The requirements
include 90+ credits, full-time student, and a minimum 2.0 GPA. Elections will be online on the
Universities website from September 22-26th.
Each organization is given a week, starting September 21, to draw/paint their theme (example:
Wonder woman) on one of the student union windows as a contest for Homecoming week. First
place will receive $75 and second place will receive $40.Girls that are interested are going to
complete this drawing/painting accordingly. Paint will be purchased with the money allocated
for my position of Alumnae and Heritage.
Along with drawing/painting the window, organizations are able to decorate banners for the
upcoming parade. Girls that are interested, including myself, will be completing the banner
during Homecoming week. First place receives $75 and second place receives $25. Banner paper
and markers will be purchased with the money allocated for my position of Alumnae and
Heritage. These banners will be put onto our float at the parade.
On September 23, the University holds an event for the queen nominees called “Meet the
Queens”. This event will be held during the meal of the month in the student union cafeteria at 5-
6PM. Introductions begin at 5:30 PM. There will also be another round of introductions before
the Programming Board comedian at 9 PM on September 24.
The Homecoming parade will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 11 AM. The parade will
start at the local high school parking lot and end in one of our academic building parking lots.
Each organization must be at the start no later than 10 AM. Each organization is able to create a
float each year for the Homecoming parade. We will be putting our banners and some superhero
themed pictures on one of the sister’s trucks. First place float receives $200 and second place
receives $100.
The cash awards will be given out by the Pitt-Johnstown Alumni Association to the top two
floats and banners.
At 12 PM, all organizations must go to the University Square where the winner and her court
will be announced. Awards for windows, banners, and floats will also be awarded at this time.
As my position is Alumnae and Heritage, I will be arranging an alumnae event at the house. My
plan is to have alumnae come up for the parade at 11 AM and stay for the awards and come
down to the house for a small cookout. I will be picking up a meal exchange form from the
Student Life office and picking the meal option “hamburgers and hotdogs”. There will also be a
veggie tray available along with fruit punch. Along with the meal exchange, I will also be
renting a small grill for the day from the University. I will be in contact with alumnae through
our chapter’s Alumnae Facebook page and my own personal invites through email and text
messaging.
