Superficial branch of ulnar nerve.

4. LUMBRICALS(4):
ORIGIN:
Tendons of flexor digitorum profundus.
INSERTION:
Extensor expansion of medial four fingers.
ACTION:
Flexes the metacarpophalangeal joints and
extends the interphalangeal joints of finger
except thumb.
NERVE ROOT:
C8;T1
NERVE SUPPLY:
First and second(i.e,lateral two),median
nerve;third and fouthdeep branch of unlar
nerve.

5. INTEROSSEI (8)
PALMAR (4):
ORIGIN:
First arises from base of first
metacarpal;remaining three from anterior
surface of shafts of second,fourth,and fifth
metacarpals.
INSERTION:
Proximal phalanges of thumbb and
index,ring,and little fingers and dorsal extensor
expansion of each finger.
ACTION:
palmar interossei addcuts finger toward centre
of third finger.
NERVE SUPPLY:
Deep branch of ulnar nerve.
NERVE ROOT:
C8,T1

6. DORSAL (4):
ORIGIN:
Contigunous sides of shaft of metacarpal
bones.
INSERTION:
Proximal phalanges of index,middle and
ring fingers and dorsal extensor expansion.
ACTION:
abducts fingers fromcentre of third
finger;both palmar and dorsal flex
metacarpophalangeal joints and extends
interphalangeal joints.
NERVE SUPPLY:
C8,T1
NERVE ROOT:
Deep branch of ulnar nerve.

7. SHORT MUSCLES OF THUMB:
ABDUCTOR POLLICIS BREVIS:
ORIGIN:
Scaphoid,trapizium,flexor retinaculum.
INSERTION:
Base of proximal phalanx of thumb.
ACTION:
Abduction of thumb.
NERVE SUPPLY:
Median nerve.
NERVE ROOT:
C8;T1.

Oblique head;second and thrid metacarpal
bones;transverse head;third metacarpal bone.
INSERTION:
Base of proximal phalanx of thumb.

Adduction of thumb.

Deep branch of ulnar nerve.
NERVE ROOT:
C7;T1.

11. SHORT MUSCLES OF LITTLE FINGER:
ABDUCTOR DIGITI MINIMI:
ORIGIN:
Pisiform bone.
INSERTION:
Base of proximal phalanx of little finger.
ACTION:
Abducts little finger.
NERVESUPPLY:
Deep branch of ulnar nerve.
NERVE ROOT:
C8;T1.

12. FLEXOR DIGITI MINIMI:
ORIGIN:
Flexor retinaculum.
INSERTION:
Base of proximal phalanx of little finger.
ACTION:
Flexes little finger.

Deep branch of ulnar nerve.

13. OPPONENS DIGITI MINIMI:
ORIGIN:
Flexor retinaculum.
INSERTION:
Medial border of the fifth metacarpal bone.
ACTION:
Pulls fifth metacarpal forward as in cupping
the palm.

Deep branch of ulnar nerve.
