■ Teacher educators are the teachers of teachers.They have different
competencies than a normal school teacher.
Teacher educators are:
• Beginning – experienced - expert
• Educators of pedagogy and didactics
• Educators of pedagogical content knowledge – discipline-specific teacher
educators

1-Teaching competencies
■ It involves provision of training and practice of various teaching
approaches, techniques and strategies to potential teachers to enable
them to plan and communicate instruction, reinforce and motivate
learners and to conduct effective evaluation and assessment. It
encompasses managerial skills (classroom management, time
management etc.), preparation and employment of pedagogical
material, and interpersonal competencies
2-Professional competencies
It adhere to teaching strategies, techniques and approaches,
which are beneficial for teachers to excel in respective
profession. It comprises soft skills, computer skills,
information retrieving and management skills, interpersonal
and counseling skills and above all lifelong learning
competencies
3-Pedagogical competencies
■ Pedagogical theory involves the sociological, philosophical
and psychological contemplations intend to provide
rigorous basis to prospective teachers for execution of
teaching skills in classroom setting.Theory discusses the
reasons, needs and requirements of particular situation in
classroom

■ AIOU develop in 2002 about teacher
competencies level for pre service,
induction and in service teachers
Competences by AIOU
1. Development of teacher’s ability to take care of himself.
2. Development of the ability according to different level of student age
groups.
3. Development of good command of subject content.
4. Development of teaching skills.
5. Development of capacity to do, observe, infer and to generalize.
6. Development of searching skills for sources and study material.
7. Development of appreciation of difficulties experienced by the students,
parents, with a sympathetic response.
8. Development of proper perception of the problems of universal enrolment,
regular attendance, year to year promotion and holding of the scroll till the end
of the stage of education (AIOU, 2002).

Teacher Educator Competencies

  • 2. Teacher Educators ■ Teacher educators are the teachers of teachers.They have different competencies than a normal school teacher. Teacher educators are: • Beginning – experienced - expert • Educators of pedagogy and didactics • Educators of pedagogical content knowledge – discipline-specific teacher educators

  • 4. 1-Teaching competencies ■ It involves provision of training and practice of various teaching approaches, techniques and strategies to potential teachers to enable them to plan and communicate instruction, reinforce and motivate learners and to conduct effective evaluation and assessment. It encompasses managerial skills (classroom management, time management etc.), preparation and employment of pedagogical material, and interpersonal competencies
  • 5. 2-Professional competencies It adhere to teaching strategies, techniques and approaches, which are beneficial for teachers to excel in respective profession. It comprises soft skills, computer skills, information retrieving and management skills, interpersonal and counseling skills and above all lifelong learning competencies
  • 6. 3-Pedagogical competencies ■ Pedagogical theory involves the sociological, philosophical and psychological contemplations intend to provide rigorous basis to prospective teachers for execution of teaching skills in classroom setting.Theory discusses the reasons, needs and requirements of particular situation in classroom
