2. Microbiology:-
Microbiology is the study of microscopic
organisms such as bacteria ,virus and fungi
,protozoa.
it’s is the study of living organism of
microscopic size which includes bacteria ,viruses,
fungi, algae, protozoa. It is concerned with there
form structure reproduction, physiology,
metabolism and classification.
It is the study of microbes that infect human and
causes the disease, their diagnosis, prevention
and treatment.
4. Microorganisms:-
Microorganisms are the simple form of life in earth.
Microbes or microorganisms are minute living things that are
usually unable to viewed with naked eyes.
It present in vast no. I’m our environment , eg- soli, water, food,
air etc
Even one it is present in our body surface, eg – nose, mouth etc.
Majority of microorganism ade harmful to human.
Most microorganism are in the form of single celled but virus
doesn’t have appearance.
5. Microbiology helps nurses to understand the principles of hospital and community, hygiene
Mainataince and prevention of disease.
It Contributing to production of morbidity( disease rate ) and duration of hospital stay for
patient.
Nurses use antiseptic to sterlize the surgical instruments like knife, needle, and other matel
instruments to free from microorganism.
Micro biology also give knowledge to nurses how to handle a patient and his sample infected
with communicable disease
Many patients admitted in hospital are prescribed with antibiotics as a part of treatment.
Importance and relevance microbiology
in nursing:-
6. Importance and relevance microbiology
in nursing:-
To know about harmful and harmless microorganisms to human being.
Nurses applied microbiology knowledge in health care for drug production, diagnosis
and sterilization method of cleanliness.
Maintaining cold chain .
It’s health maintaining hygienic environment.
It help to know about biomedical waste management to know about disease and
microorganisms.
7. Scope of microbiology in nursing:-
1. Diagnosis:- eg isolation and identification of microorganisms or causative
organism from the pathological lesions. We can also diagnose typhoid fever with
the help of widal test.
2. Guidance in treatment:- eg- by Culturing the organism in pure form and then
performing drugs sensitivity test we can suggest the infective drug for the
treatment of that particular infection.
3. Source of infection :- eg – In sudden outbreak of infection disease we can find
out the source of infection (soil infection , air by environment ) .
9. Principle of microbiology:-
Robert koch was the first person to demonstrate the
role a bacterium as a positive agent to take disease
in 1876 . Basing an various experiment, they find out
the reason of the disease and relationship between
the specific organism and disease. Disease is spread
by the causative agent or microorganisms.
11. Branches of microbiology :-
1. Medical microbiology
2. Agricultural and plant microbiology
3. Food microbiology
4. Industrial microbiology
5. Soil microbiology
6. Exo microbiology
12. Highlights:-
Father of microbiology :- Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723)
Father of modern microbiology :- Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) Achievement:
developed the pasteurization process and the first vaccines.
