Year 9 Unit 1 – Water Supply
Year 9 Geographers have to be interactive in their approach to the subject and willing
and able to use a variety of means and techniques to get across a message.
Group 2 – The Drips
You are to put together a presentation to show why drinking tap water is safe in many
countries around the world including France. You need to provide evidence that
many people could save lots of money by reverting to drinking tap water. You need to
conduct some research into the following areas of the water production:
1. Why is tap water safe to drink in France? Why do people think it is not?
2. Are there some areas of the world where tap water is not safe? Where and
why? Is bottle water a viable way to get fresh water to people here?
3. Environmentally Aware – What environmental issues does bottled water
raise?
4. Is tap water cheaper than bottled water? How do we convince people to stop
drinking bottled water in favour of tap water?
5. Judge an Evian taste test and mark the company on its ability to tell the
difference between Evian and IST water.
This piece of work can be done as:
1. A poster / leafet combination as well as an oral presentation
2. A ‘live advert’ performed by the group members with props.
3. A video with music, text and commentary
4. A Pod cast or radio broadcast.
You may use the computers, display card and interactive whiteboard as part of your
production.
