Saturday – Geog Plan of Action <ul><li>9.30 – 10.00 – Introduction and Exam format explained. </li></ul><ul><li>10.00 – 12.45 - Student led activities. </li></ul><ul><li>15.30 – 18.30 – Practicing Exam Technique. Paper 1 and mark schemes </li></ul><ul><li>20.00 – Timed Exam Practice </li></ul><ul><li>21.00 – Free time. </li></ul>

Saturday 10.00 – 12.45 <ul><li>Student Led Activities. </li></ul><ul><li>You have 75 minutes to plan and prepare an activity to deliver to the rest of the group. </li></ul><ul><li>Each activity utilises a different learing style. </li></ul><ul><li>You must take no more than 10 minutes to deliver your mini lesson. </li></ul>

Activity 1 – Migration Drama. <ul><li>Migration – 4 Minute Play </li></ul><ul><li>Covering types of migration including external and internal migrations. </li></ul><ul><li>Lee’s Migration Model </li></ul><ul><li>Push and Pull factors </li></ul><ul><li>Impacts on destination and country of origin (positive and negative effects) </li></ul><ul><li>Use page 19-20 of IB revision guide to help you. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Activity 2 – Taboo and Pictionary <ul><li>Taboo for 8 key words. PowerPoint slide with key word stated and a list of words that ‘describers’ are not allowed to say. </li></ul><ul><li>Another 5 models to be described as a pictionary game. </li></ul>Movement Opposite People Birds Place Lee’s Model Ravensteins Migration

Activity 3 - Who Wants to be a Millionnaire Gameshow? <ul><li>Create a game that increases in difficulty covering the whole of the Core Theme </li></ul><ul><li>Another with a mixture of questions from Freshwater and SLT (can be used back in school). </li></ul><ul><li>Use the revision guide to help you. </li></ul><ul><li>(Template and music available on slideshare) </li></ul>
  8. 8. Activity 4 Maps from Memory <ul><li>One blank world map. Identify the case study countries and annotate the main features of the case study. Students then get into groups and have 1 minute (at a time) to study the map, remember the content and then return to their tables to fill in their own blank map with case study material as well as memorising locations. </li></ul><ul><li>Create a map from memory showing disparities that exist resulting from: </li></ul><ul><li>Ethnicity - Zimbabwe </li></ul><ul><li>Residence – USA </li></ul><ul><li>Parental Education – UK and university places </li></ul><ul><li>Income - Dubai </li></ul><ul><li>Employment - Dubai </li></ul><ul><li>Land Ownership – Zimbabwe (Mugabe and the White African) </li></ul>
  9. 9. Activity 5 - Treasure Hunt. <ul><li>Millennium Development Goals – Treasure Hunt. </li></ul><ul><li>The eight MDG’s will be hidden around the grounds of the centre. Clues available. </li></ul><ul><li>At each location there will be a sheet showing the full name of the goal, a set target and an e.g. case study country. </li></ul><ul><li>Students must memorise the information and get back to their recording sheet and fill in the missing information. </li></ul><ul><li>This is a competition and the first team to fully fill in their crib sheet will win. (very competitive and active 20 mins!) </li></ul><ul><li>Clue locations can be related to the MDG themselves. For the environmental sustainability goal, the clue was hidden on the side of a recycling bin. For the maternal health MDG, the clue was hidden in a babies cot in the centre etc etc. </li></ul>

Activity 6 – Population Pyramid Card Sort <ul><li>Provide a layout frame on A3 </li></ul><ul><li>Provide 4 population pyramid diagrams (rough) </li></ul><ul><li>Provide 5 statements to go with each. </li></ul><ul><li>Class have 2 minutes to sort them into the correct order (LEDC – MEDC) and sort the correct statements underneath. </li></ul><ul><li>Winner Prize </li></ul><ul><li>Loser Sweet and Sour Forfeit. </li></ul>

Activity 7 Case Study – MEMORY! <ul><li>Case study memory Game. </li></ul><ul><li>Link up case study to syllabus content then to a positive and negative effect </li></ul><ul><li>12 syllabus content cards lifted from the specification. Each with a case study and a positive and negative ‘effect’ card. </li></ul><ul><li>Students have to complete a game of memory </li></ul><ul><li>See example uploaded to SlideShare. </li></ul>
