WHO ARE KALBELIA’S ?
KALBELIA PLAYING A BEEN
FACTS
Of the many kind of snakes found in our
country (India), only four types of snakes are
poisonous. They are: Cobra, Common Krait,
Russell's Viper (Duboiya), Saw Scaled Viper
(Afai).
Snakes has two hollow teeth (fangs). When it
bites, the poison enters the person’s body
Forked Tongue y through the fangs. There is a
medicine for snake bites.
The medicine is made from the snake’s poison
and available in all government hospitals.

Snake Shedding its Skin
The aptly named king cobra is
the largest venomous snake in
the world, reaching lengths
of about 5 meters (about 18
feet). When disturbed, it
raises its hooded head to get
a better view or to strike.
Large individuals may raise
themselves to a height of
about 1 meter (about 4 feet).
Cobra
When disturbed or angry,
the cobra assumes a
threatening position,
raising the front part of
its body while expanding a
hood near its head. The
snake creates its hood by
expanding its movable neck
ribs, which stretches out
the loose skin around its
neck.
Copper head
The copperhead is a highly
venomous member of the
pit viper family. Also
called the highlands
moccasin, this snake eats
mice, other snakes, birds,
amphibians, lizards, and
insects.

NON POISONOUS SNAKE
 Snake have been an important part of the life of snake
charmers.
 These people never kill snakes nor they keep them in bad
conditions. Snakes are their treasure which they pass on
from one generation to another. They gift snakes to their
daughters when they get married.
 From their childhood , their fathers taught them how to
catch snakes, remove their poisonous teeth and to close
the tube of poison in the snakes mouth.
 Snake charmers move from village to village carrying
snakes in bamboo baskets to entertain people.
 Whenever they stopped in a village, a crowd would
gather around them.
 Then they would take out the snakes from the basket
for a snake show and earn money.
 Even after the show , people would stay on. They
know that in their tin box there are many types of
medicines for them.
 Some snake charmers keep medicines made from
the plants collected from the forests.
 In return of medicines people would give them
money or food grains.
Now the government has made a
law that no one can catch wild
animals and keep them. Some
people kill the animals and sell
their skin at high prices. So they
made a law against this.
They earn their livelihood by
doing Kalbelia dance in which
there are movements similar to
the dance of a snake.
By forming a been party with
musical instruments and
entertain people.
