Communication means exchanging of ideas,thoughts,emotions and opinions.
Communications providing information to the group or an individual at a particular
place.
The communication may be spoken and/or written.In communication there are
three elements.
1. The Speaker-person
2. The Speech-Subject
3. The Audience-listener

Communication consists of a wide range of behaviors that include writing,
listening, reading, observing and thinking. These behaviors occur over time and
often overlap with one another.Communication is the exchange of information
between two or create an understanding in the mind of the others, whether or
not it gives rise to conflict.

perception and how they impact on the communication process.
Selective perception means
1. People (Target Audience) select what they want to see
2. They also interpret selectively what they see
3. They also choose what they want to remember and forget
Target Audience is the focus of all communication

Different audience segments may see things differently because;
1. They may have different information.
2. People may have different perspectives and see things according to their
training, experience and values.
3. People may also appreciate differently the way information is organized
4. People may have different needs and desires.
We should consider these factors in developing
effective communication materials.

1. Intrapersonal: Communication with oneself.
2. Interpersonal : Person-to-person communication

Intrapersonal:
Communication oneself(reading ,hearing ,thinking ).Intrapersonal
Communication is a communicator’s internal use of language or
thought. It is the most basic level of communication.
What is it for?
Clarifying ideas or analyzing a situation.
a. Self Concept (Beliefs ,Values , Attitudes)
b. Perception (It looks outward, perception of the outside world also is rooted in
beliefs , values and attitudes)
c. Expectation (future oriented messages dealing with long-term roles.)
11. Types of Communication
Interpersonal : Interpersonal communication is the process of exchange of
information , ideas and feelings between two or more people through verbal or non-
verbal methods.
Mass communication: Mass communication is the process by whice a person
/group or organization creates a message and transmits it through some type of
medium to a large anonymouse,heterogeneous audience.( Advertising,
journalism,public relations,social media,Audio media, film and
television,photography,Ebooks)
Organizational communication: A broad field that encompasses all forms of
communication that allow organizations such as companies,government agencies,and
non-profits to function,grow,connect with sateholders,and contribute to society.

12. Five Types of Communication
Verbal communication: verbal communication occurs when we engage in speaking with other.
Non-verbal communication: Non-verbal communication includes facial expression,
posture,and touch.
Written communication: Whether it is an email,a memo , a face book post, a tweet, a contract
etc. all forms of written communication have the same goal to disseminate information in a
clear and concise manner.
Listening: The act of listening does not often make it’s way on to the list of types of
communication.(active listening and engage with them)
Visual communication: We are visual society (televisions,facebook,videos,image etc.)
13. Behavior Change Communication
• Physical Stimuli
based on a person’s current physical state, as well as fear of future
pain and discomfort, or memory of a past pain.
• Rational stimuli
based on knowledge and reasoning (if people have the facts, they may
choose to do the right thing)
• Emotional stimuli
based on a person's intensity of feelings of fear, love or hope
• Skills
based on a person’s intensity to adopt and continue a new behavior
• Family and Personal Networks
based on influence from family and press
• Social Structures
based on the impact of social, economic, legal and technological
factors on the daily life of a person.
