Reading Reflection
Reading skill is my favorite skill to learn English. I like to read interesting articles about
technology and science via Facebook’s Newsfeed. To understand the information requires
being good at reading and having plenty of vocabulary to understand the text. Moreover, when
I want to relax, sometimes I read English novels to experience in the creative world. For
students, reading skill is one of the important skills to comprehend or understand about new
information through visual method. Students must know both plenty of vocabulary and the
structure used in the sentences to comprehend the text given. For a teacher, there are various
authentic sources of information for reading activities which depend on the topic that the
teacher wants to teach or the students are interested in to learn. These are examples of reading
activities shared by peers and Aj. Alix in Curriculum and Instruction in English 2 that I am
interested in to apply them in my class in the future.
Jigsaw reading was very good activity for students because this activity made students
learn in co-operative learning. Students learned not only academic knowledge, but they learned
how to work in team with friends also. They summarized what they understood and then shared
to friends with their own language and comprehension. This activity was great that students
learned the content using reading techniques and thinking skill through the process of doing
activity. I think this activity suits for high school students because they are familiar with how
to work in complex steps and how to summarize the text. For young children, the text might be
short like a folktale or fable that is easy to understand and remember.
For the reading activity from peers, I like Guessing game from Freya and Arissza. The
students formed a circle and passed the ball until the music was stopped. The person who had
the ball had to read the story and the other friends had to guess what the topic of the story being
read was. This activity really motivated students because they had to pass the ball until the
music was stopped. The point was nobody wanted to have the ball so they had to pass the ball
as quickly as they could. This activity was good for young children to make them alert and
happy to play and learn.
The activity I like the most is Scramble. The teacher let students to create a card of
letter. Then the teacher would pronounce the word and the students had to mix the cards up to
make the word given as quickly as they could. This activity was very interesting. My friends
and I liked to play this game so much that I thought the time for this activity was short. As I

was playing the game, I had an idea to bring this game into English Camp to teach young
children. That must be good for them. Students learned to spell the word which they had
learned.
It is very important for teacher to apply the suitable plan for students to make them
learn best with having good feeling to learn. In my opinion, I support the activity like a game
to be applied in the classroom. I do believe that students will learn best when they are having
as good feeling as playing the game. Students will learn about English language without feeling
nervous so that the creativity and true ability of them will be released during participating in
the activities. However, there is no best lesson plan that can apply to every student in every
class. The teacher is the only one who knows what activities are suitable for his students.
