Final Reflection
Nowadays, English language seems to be the most popular language in the world.
Most countries use English language as a tool to communicate with the foreign people. For
Thailand, the importance of English language is dramatically increasing because Thai people
are aware of the arrival of Asean Economic Community in 2015. According to this reason,
English teachers are anticipated by the society to be the major key to improve the English
level of students. Especially, the students should be able to communicate with the foreigners.
In my opinion before studying about teaching, I think to teach students English
language through four skills is quite difficult. According to my experience of studying
English, to study English is boring. When I was in high school, teacher taught me grammar,
and vocabulary in order to make students be able to pass the examination so that I found it
was very boring to study English. So, I am challenged as I will be an English teacher in the
future. To study more about teaching techniques is very necessary, and this course provides
me lot of things important for me. I have learned various activities and idea through this
course. I realize that there are various ways to teach English with fun and positive mood.
After having crated three lesson plans and sharing with peers, I think the old way of
teaching English in Thai should be reformed. Each lesson plan of each skill seems to be great
and suitable for students in 21st century. The students does not want to sit still and listen to
what teacher speaks for an hour. Actually, the students will learn best if they have a chance to
practice using it in daily life. These are three activities from listening, writing and reading
lesson plans I do like them. First, for listening lesson plan, I like the activity called “Way of
Council.” During this activity, students learnt both how to be the good speaker and good
listener. The point I like this activity is that everyone had a chance to speak with feeling free
and without interruption like debate or discussion. Second, for writing lesson plan, I like the
activity called “Alphabet writing.” This activity let students use their own creativity to create
a meaningful description of themselves from each letter in their name. So the students could
know more about their friends. Third, for reading lesson plan, I like the activity called
“Scramble.” This activity was like a game that the teacher pronounced the word and the
students mixed up the word related to the sound. The children might be happy to learn
vocabulary from this game. These are the examples of activities that can be applied to be
used in teaching English as a foreign language in Thai. The student’s attitude toward English

language will be more positive so that the English ability of Thai students also will be
improved.
Moreover, learning through great activities with great materials can boost student’s
motivation to study such as doing role-play, playing game, listening to music, watching
video, reading newspaper, reading about how to do something from magazine, writing about
the personal object and etc. I think to teach grammar and vocabulary in the books like what I
have experienced in the past is very boring. However, I find out that if the teacher provides
the great lesson plans with great activity with great source can motivate students to study
English with happiness and positive attitude. For example, teacher uses authentic video
related to the lesson to help students understand more about the lesson rather than only telling
students to read at page X.
Finally, I am very glad to study with Aj.Alix. You are the first foreign teacher who is
related to the educational field since I have been here. So I find that your teaching style and
activities are different from the others. It looks like I do study to be the teacher. I enjoy what
you have prepared lesson plan to teach students about the necessary things for being a great
teacher. Your plan is not only tell students what we should do to be the teacher, but it shows
how to be the teacher as students are to share lesson plan with peers and participate in the
whole activity. I still want to learn more about the teaching technique from Aj.Alix although
the course has already finished. I anticipate to have more chances to practice teaching with
peers in next course and teacher will evaluate how we are doing through the process of
teaching. Moreover, if it will be possible, it might be great that we held an English camp at
the school and apply what we have been training so far in the real situation.
