Topic: Review on past perfect and past perfect continuous to prepare for an exam.
he methods we are going to use in this activity will be the audio-lingual method and the
communicative language teaching approach, because the objective of this method is to develop
accurate pronunciation and grammar and also to promote communication and interaction between the
students. With the board game, students will participate more, therefore; they will receive the input in a
more appropriate way for their English level and it will be easier for them to remember what they
learned and apply it in the exam. Using a game is more interesting for the student, and they have fun
while reviewing for a test.
For the first activity, as the teacher checks homework, he will use repetition and as the whole class goes
over the exercises in the book. In this activity the teacher also has the opportunity to use inflection,
T
Class Plan: Review: Past Perfect and Past Perfect Continuous
which is simple and gets the students to think. For example the teacher says a word, the students say
another form of one of the words back to the teacher.
The board game is a great tool for the students to have fun while they are learning and also strengthens
their thinking abilities, because they will have to come up with as many sentences as possible and
communicate them to the teacher. In this case the teacher’s role would be as a monitor. The teacher
will pay attention and will monitor while the students play and develop their creativity and fast thinking.
The teacher will also be able to give them feedback if needed.
It is important to mention that the board game is reusable, the teacher can use it for other topics if
needed. It would be a good tool to review for other exams too. Everything in the board game can be
easily taken off to make a different game.
This game activity will keep the students learning process interesting and will keep them from
fossilization. The game promotes thinking and encourages the students to be creative and to go beyond
their capabilities. Since there is an extra point for the exam in this game, the students will try to do their
best to obtain it. The situations on the board game are real-life situations that the students can relate
to, this way it will be easier for them to communicate. The communicative approach promotes using the
target language at all times, set activities that have relevance and purpose to real life situations and it
emphasizes on engaging learners in more useful and authentic language.
The communicative competence in this activity is to come up with as many sentences using the past
perfect and the past perfect continuous along with the information on the board game.
Web Quest:
To reinforce the topic we decided to make a web quest, it is necessary for students to also have some
practice using technology. Nowadays teaching and technology go hand in hand. This activity will be for
the students to do at home, and to do some research on their own, giving them the necessary tools to
do so. A web quest will help them understand better or practice more in case the class activity was not
sufficient as a review before the exam. Using a web quest gets students motivated and when students
are motivated they are likely to put a little more effort, and they can work at their own pace. To do a
web quest the students are using web resources instead of books. In this web quest the students are
going to create a presentation, which they will share with the class.
Class Plan: Review: Past Perfect and Past Perfect Continuous
For this activity the students make a commitment to work on it, and to do it step by step. They are
developing who they are and are learning to compromise, it can help the students to find out their own
identity status.
