B. Directions: Enumerate the following. Write your answer on the
space provided.
1. Identify and differentiate the different communication modes in 100 words.
(Type rubric below)
There are three modes or ways of communication to express and this is the
interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational communication.
In the interpersonal mode they both have the same ability to evaluate and
respond through conversation. When conversing to others it is easy to change our facial
expression and gestures because we typically react from the information that we
received. This is the mode which measures us of how well speak in the language in a
natural way. Unlike to interpretive mode, this is a one-way communication that we need
to translate so that we can understand the target language in both written and spoken
form. While the presentational mode, the encoder is speaking to an audience or
presenting a presentation. With this mode, we allow to plan and rehearse what we want
to write or say unlike to the interpersonal mode is spontaneous and unrehearsed.
2. Give at least one scenario in each of the modes of communication explain in
100 words. (Rubric below)
One day there were two best friends who are laughing while talking. In this
scenario, the two best friends use the interpersonal mode of communication while
speaking because they are expressing their feelings by exchanging their facial
expressions and gestures in a natural way. These two best friends are not rehearsing
their words to say and their gestures because they are free to choose their reactions
based on the information that they have received from each other. Moreover, this mode
helps us to prepare in interacting with native speakers in natural ways.
For instance, there were two brothers who are watching a Japanese movie but
they do not understand the movie. Only the facial expressions and gestures they know
based of what they saw in the movie so they put an English subtitles on it so that they
can appreciate the flow of the Japanese movie of what is really the main idea of that
movie. In this scenario, they use the interpretive mode of communication because they
use a translation to guide them so that they can better understand the language.
Another example, the teacher is assigning Joy and Mae to make an oral
presentation tomorrow. Consequently, they are practicing on how they deliver the
information and they careful planning to write an oral presentation that engages the
audience and accomplishes their objectives. The next day, they presented their oral
presentation well and they delivered the information effectively to their classmates. In
this scenario, Joy and Mae are using presentational mode of communication because
they are able to rehearse and/or to record multiple times until they are satisfied with the
final presentation.
3. List at least 10 positive and negative effects of technology in communication.
(1 pts. each)
 POSITIVE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY IN COMMUNICATION
 Communication is now easy; in case of emergency situations when you want to
convey something urgently to someone, mobiles and emails come in handy.
 Technology has made it easy to keep in touch with old contacts, and has also
helped strengthen relationships.
 Technology has brought the world closer and promoted exchange of thoughts to
find better solutions to any problem.
 A service like video-conferencing has made it possible to give best education to
students via expert faculty on the web.
 Technology is the rationale behind the success of long distance relationships.
Video chats and social networking sites have played a big role in keeping people
in touch. This will help us to stay connected with someone even he/she is far
from us.
 Technological advancements in the modes of communication have promoted
faster decision-making, and led to the development and progress of the world.
 Easier time to learn new things like searching information from the internet.
 Increased safety because of better police response times using GPS,
surveillance/cameras, etc…
 Technology helps me as a student to learn independently.
 Easier to introduce your business because most of the business depends on
technology for communication.
 NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY IN COMMUNICATION
 Impact on interpersonal communication because the current generation lacks
essential interpersonal skills. A major reason for this tendency is increased
frequency of communication through texting and chatting on websites.
 Lack of face to face interaction has reduced the nonverbal grasping power of
individuals.
 Teenagers especially are always hooked to the social networking sites. They are
more close to online friends, but the gap between parents has increased
considerably. The face to face communication between parents and their
children are missing.
 Reduced social interactions consider the socializing among people. Life has
changed a lot; there are no social meetings and get-togethers.
 People have literally become addicted to the Internet and cell phones, and this
addiction has led to many anxiety disorders.
 Many people abuse the social networking sites and communicate to
unsuspecting beings pretending someone else. This tendency of people has
done more harm than good.
 People are more bothered about their online life rather than the real social life.
 Privacy is not valued anymore because of overusing of technologies to
communicate with someone.
 The daily uses of technology to communicate are detrimental to our eyes and
brain by radiation.
 This can be caused laziness and gaining weight due to inactivity unlike to face to
face communication.
4. How would you raise awareness to avoid misconceptions about the use of
technology in communication? Explain in 100 words. (Rubric below)
Communication is one of those human activities that everyone recognizes but
few can define satisfactorily. In order to raise my awareness to avoid misconceptions is I
will anticipate the problems and find solutions or manage the risk. If I have any
misconceptions about technology in communication I must correct my misconceptions.
Besides, to correct my misconceptions is I have to seek more reliable information to add
more knowledge about the use of technology in communication. Learn to say “right is
right” and “wrong is wrong”.
C. Directions: Write TRUE if the statement is true or FALSE if the
statement is incorrect. Write your answers on the space provided
before the number.
FALSE1. Technology makes it more difficult to keep up with news today than in the past
because it is difficult to keep up with all the information.
FALSE2. With advances in technology, few differences exist between face - to - face
and computer mediated communication.
TRUE3. Social media actually goes back to some of the earliest Internet technologies
and even predates the Internet.
FALSE4. Technology has nothing to do with communication since they are way too
different from each other.
TRUE5. Communication technology is an ever growing market.
TRUE6. The emergence of social media has created a new avenue for facilitating daily
information and communication needs.
TRUE7. When social media did not exist and social communication and interaction were
the only way of communication.
TRUE8. Relationships are built when a business knows its customer and discover
opportunities to serve them more ineffectively through personal interjections.
TRUE9. Each mode of communication is distinct from the other; the ways in which you
craft our messages differ.
TRUE10. Communication creates opportunity for people to understand problems with
each other in a way that is both helpful and essential to socially motivate people.

Write a three paragraph (with 5 sentences each paragraph essay) of the
importance of technology as an aid to communication amidst the global pandemic or the
“new normal”.
Nowadays, The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is profoundly affecting life
around the globe. Besides, technology plays a huge role with regards to communication
especially now in the new normal policies that face to face is forbidden because we
need to follow the government protocols like social distancing for our safety and so that
covid-19 virus does not spread easily. This time it is really difficult to move in this world
because of so many taboos due to the pandemic. Try to imagine a world without
technology and the pandemic continues to spread around the world! Isn’t it hard right?
Maybe, this is our end because without technology the scientists or doctors will not be
able to make a cure for covid-19 and we will also lose our communication with people
who are far away. Also, maybe the world will be in trouble due to lack of information
gather and people will no longer be aware of the events in our country and around the
world.
At this moment, we cannot deny that we are all having a hard time right now
because of the limited activities outside our home. But with the help of technology, we
continue to fight covid-19. Young people today continue to learn through virtual classes
because this is the only thing that can be done right now between student and to the
teacher, but other youths have not been able to study due to lack of technology and due
to the weak / no signal. Businessmen also rely on technology to advertise their business
through presentational mode of communication. Thus, technology is one of the most
important now because as of now our future is dependent in the world of technology to
stay connected with someone and to help us updated in the news around the world and
by updating the data about the virus so that we can be aware of the happenings in our
environment.
Most of our activities in personal interactions are converted using technology.
Without technology there is nothing we can do during the global pandemic. In using
technology as an aid to communication we must follow the rules and regulations. We
must use it in a good way to avoid abusement. Moreover, with the help of technology as
an aid to communication we will rise together from impoverishment and never lose hope
believe in yourself that we can heal as one.
