As the Water Hygiene Manager I have been appointed by the Responsible Person to provide assistance
to the Estates & Project Teams with the monitoring and auditing of the agreed implemented maintenance
routines & extra works, thus ensuring that the systems are at all times operated in a manner to ensure
public health and safety. This appointment is to cover the three hospitals Watford General, Hemel
Hempstead & St Albans, with a few out buildings within the Hertfordshire area. Duties include liaison with
the Independent Auditor, Health & Safety Executive, Environmental Health Officer, consultant ( Hydrop),
Estates Technical Team and the Specialist water quality maintenance Contractor’s for the management
of all onsite water systems.
As this individual I will have the responsibilities of the fundamental regulations of the organisations
operational maintenance statutory compliance in accordance with the Water Safety Plan incorporating
Legionella & Pseudomonas and have the necessary practical operation and expertise to undertake these
duties.
The main objectives are to:
• Identify any significant defects that would adversely affect the performance of the water services
• Report on plant conditions that could affect the water services, report on their cause and provide
a indication of what maintenance programme or remedial actions need to be carried out.
• Recommend intrusive inspections outside the scope of the condition survey
( Internal photographic Reports ) for all water and air systems.
• Provide new technical water Spread sheets for Water sampling / elevated results for ongoing
compliance with the current statutory & non-statutory regulations: ACoP L8 2013, HSG 274 Part
1,2,3, HTM 04-01 Parts A&B, TM44, TR19, HTM 07-01 Producing site specific method
statements & risk assessments with the current water consultants, along with statutory & good
practice maintenance programmes procedures.
• Asset Register – to develop a reliable asset register along with a database on all Showers, TMV
Tap outlets, CWST`s, Calorifiers, Drinking water coolers & overall condition of plant and
associated systems. Both the asset register and the condition appraisal will help the
maintenance and Estates management staff plan for future maintenance, replacement and
refurbishment needs. And to ensure these assets are kept up to date through all project works.
• Carry out site audits to identify failings in the maintenance programme & to submit the findings to
the compliance team for account managers & directors to implement actions.
• Regularly review the L8 Risk Assessments for all buildings to ensure the schematic drawings &
RA is current & up to date, make changes where necessary to ensure that West Hertfordshire
Trust is compliant in all areas.

deliverance & subcontractors, this consisted of cooling tower replacements new tank installs, ductwork &

As part of the management structure it was the Contract Managers responsibility to:
• Head of team, effectively in the control of a 2.0 Million budget
• Have day to day contact with the client, feeding back updates and the control of safe systems of
work playing an important role to this position.
