1. Introduction speech for
Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul
Dear Professors, Distinguished guests, ladies and
gentlemen:
In a moment I will invite Prof.Vicharn Panich to open
the 6th
Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program 2018.
Before doing so, however, let me provide you with some
brief detail of the program.
The Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program was
established in 2008 through initiation from Prof.Nevin
Scrimchaw under the patronage of Her Royal Highness
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
The program was established in order to support
outstanding, young Thai medical practitioners, in the early
stages of their career, who show a strong interest in tracing
in the footsteps taken within the fields of medicine and public
health of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol.
Each year the program starts through the selection of
medical students to work in research, community
development, or clinical practice for a period of one year.
The project provides opportunity for the selected scholars to
meet regularly with an expert in their chosen field. This
provides opportunity to develop inspiration and motivation
2. amongst the scholars. Following the program, the scholars
will have enhanced opportunity to both further develop and
utilize their knowledge, and extend their medical insights to
the benefit of many. This enhanced opportunity will present
not just regionally and nationally throughout Thailand, but
also internationally, and will continue throughout their
lifetime.
In order to create collaboration networks both
domestically and internationally, the Board of Trustees of
Prince Mahidol Award Foundation agreed to arrange the first
academic conference of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program
in 2013. This year will be the sixth Prince Mahidol Award
Youth Program Conference, which is a side meeting of the
“Prince Mahidol Award Conference” and provides opportunity
for international mentors and youth scholars to present their
research for the benefit of all participants. Furthermore, this
program facilitates the updating of research, clinical practice
and community development in other regions, which is to
the benefit of the country and the world as a whole.
At this point I would like to invite Prof.Vicharn Panich
to preside over the sixth academic conference “Prince
Mahidol Award Youth Program Conference 2018” and
grant an opening address.
Thank you
