The Giver Book Review Essay
The Giver book review
By:Tejah Thull
Imagine having a life with no memory. Living a life where you get a certain amount of money, only the food needed, and your job assigned to you.
While not being able to see color makes it even harder. The Giver is a young adult novel written by Lois Lowry that describes a life with no memories.
The novel takes place in a utopian society and in the future. It was created to make a perfect society. Like not being able to see color, having only the
food needed, and no feelings. Is the society really perfect? Readers follow the main character, Jonas as he attends his changes. Like his new job, and
becoming a true human.
Jonas the main character in The Giver, could be best described as caring and adventurous. Jonas' caring was the main factor to his success at the
Receiver of Memories. He was caring to The Giver by taking the bad memories from him when he was really weak, like the war, and sunburn. Before
Jonas was running away his dad said they were going to release Jape so he took Jape with him so he could live. When Jape and Jonas were running
away, Jonas gave all of his warm memories to Jape so he could stay warm. Jonas' adventurous was the main...show more content...
First of all, living a life without memory is hard. Like when all you see is gray because you can't see color. Also not knowing what happen in the
past, so you only know what happened from the start of your life and on. Another reason is having to take a pill so you don't have stirrings or the
feeling of love. Another good example is be thankful for what you have. Like when The Giver tells Jonas about how his own daughter, Rosemary asked
for release. Then Jonas being the only one able to see color in his community. Most importantly not losing Jape and taking him with him. Put it all
together, the thought life without memory, and being thankful for what you have and you get two very good themes, with

Night Book Review Essay
Book Review
Night by Elie Wiesel was one of the best books I have ever read. Night is the story about Elie's horrible time spent in Auschwitz and Buna the death
camps. This story impacted me the most because all of this is real. Elie's mother and sister were murdered as soon as they arrived. The story goes on
telling his unimaginable experiences with his father in 1944 during the Holocaust.
The book opens with Elie's life before him and his family were taken away. The story continues talking about how when they arrived in Auschwitz
his mother and sister were taken to the crematorium with other women and children who were not strong enough to work in the camps. The only
people left from Elie's family were him and his father. Throughout the whole book Elie talks about how his father was his only motivation to keep
going. When Elie's father dies he contemplates to keep going or just to give in. In the end he is liberated and is freed....show more content...
Elie was lucky to have lived through the death camps Auschwitz and Buna. Out of 11 million people 5 million were women and children and non–jews
but 7 million were jews. Only about 70 people who were in Auschwitz came out alive. Night is told in such a way that even 45 years later I felt like
I was right there with him throughout the whole book. If you are a person who wants to learn more about the Holocaust I couldn't recommend
Night enough. You will go on an adventure where your only concern was staying alive. Elie will never forget what happened and after you read this
book you won't either. In my opinion, the best part of night was in the end when he was liberated. This is the best part because throughout the whole
book I thought in the back of my mind how can he survive in these conditions. When he was freed it gave me some relief because if he hadn't
survived the whole Wiesel family would've been wiped out, and there would be no one left to tell his

As a chronicle of misfortunes, this anti–totalitarian cautionary tale is of unalterable importance and uniqueness. For the first sight I misunderstood it as

The reaction of the curators' fellow academics largely ranged from mixed to positive, with criticism being much more nuanced and muted than the
comment books and national press. Former Librarian of the United States Congress and Historian, Daniel Boorstin, was a notable exception, who led
the charge against the exhibit commenting in the first guestbook that it was "perverse, historically inaccurate [and] destructive." Most academic
reviews were positive, especially praising the catalogue which provided considerably more nuanced and detailed analysis that the wall texts. Some
historians found it hard to see what all the fuss was about, with Byron Pierce remarking that the ideas expressed in the exhibit were "hardly

Similarly, in the introduction, Broun stated that the show dealt with issues that "America still struggles with today" while Truettner stated "Today, a
century after America's creation myth was ushered into the world, we struggle with its inadequacies and insensitivities," indicating that the exhibition
was indeed making a comment on contemporary society. This opened up a powerful line of attack against the curators in the comment book with one
guest writing, "It is ironic that an exhibit which accuses all American frontier art as being the lowest form of false propaganda should itself resort to
propaganda of the most obvious, most popular kind." (in footnotes another accused the curators of doig exactly what they accused the artists of doing)
The historian Thomas Vale mounted a similar criticism, wondering "what 'hidden agenda's' lurk in conscious or subconscious minds of the writers" if
one were to apply the same scepticism TWAA applied to Western artists. Vale concludes that, much like the artists, the writers were simply reflecting
the social concerns of their times. As displayed throughout this dissertation, this was very much the case and had the curators acknowledged this, they
may have staved off some of the criticism,

Harry Potter Series : Book Review
Have you ever read the Harry Potter series? I bade you to read the Harry Potter series. I have three reasons why you should read the novel, and they are:
if you like magic, if you like wizards and witches, if you like suspense, then read the Harry Potter series. However, if you haven't read the series, here is
a brief description of the first book of the novel: "The Fantasy Novel, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', By J.K. Rowling is about a boy named
Harry Potter who was a one year old that was left on the doorstep of his mother's sister's house, (Petunia Dursley). His Aunt and her husband, Vernon
Dursley, accepted Harry. Eleven years later Harry Potter receives a letter from one of the best schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry namedHogwarts, a
school for magic people. When Harry finds out he is a wizard, he sets off for Hogwarts, where he finds that he is very famous because of his
lightning shaped scar and his great Quidditch skills. He also meets many kind people and his very first best friends, named Ronald Weasley and
Hermione Granger. Harry, Ron, and Hermione survive all the way to the end of the novel, where they discover that the Sorcerer's Stone is about to
be stolen, so Harry Ron, and Hermione try to save the stone. Finally Harry Potter alone reaches the stone where he meets the thief of the stone, the
Dark Lord. There he most importantly finds a path he must take later in the series to overtake the Dark Lord, if he could survive his destiny." After

Book Review : The Great Gatsby
"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter – tomorrow we will
run faster, stretch out our arms farther . . . . And one fine morning– So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
This is one of some famous quote about The Great Gatsby. Today, I want to discuss this book, which is one of my favorite book and movie.
The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is always considered to be the "must read" novel by book critics around the world. The
Modern Library ranked The Great Gatsby at number two on the list of the 100 best novels of the 20th century. Time magazine honors The Great
Gatsby as one of the 10 greatest literary works of all time.
The Great Gatsby is told by Nick Carraway's memoirs of what happened in 1922 with Gatsby's close friend and secret relationship with his
cousin–in–law, Daisy, "for the rest of Gatsby's life set up a property. , this estate is also due to get the beauties. For Gatsby, it's an ideal life. "
The year 1912, The beginning of the later period is referred to as the "Roaring Twenties," "golden age" or "jazz age" (like the way F. Scott Fitzgerald
calls it). This is a time when the world economy, especially the US economy, developed to the peak of prosperity and then ended with the Great
Depression of 1929. The life of Gatsby, the protagonist of the film, is about Essentially, it was Fitzgerald's

Book Review : A Review Of A Book Review
Book reviews are just that: a review of a book. They can be used for news articles, blogs, or academic journals. A book review is more than just a
book report. It can give the reader more of an insight into not just the book, but the author as well. Most authors write of what they know. For
example, some authors have backgrounds in law enforcement so they write about cases they know or have worked. Other authors research groups of
people, for example the Knights Templar, and write of what they have learned. Others yet develop a hypothesis and write of what they discovered,
proving or disproving their hypothesis. It is important to remember which genre you are interested in when reading a book review. You may find that

During my research of her, I learned that she has written several other books other than the alphabet murder series. She also has written screen plays, a
fact that was new to me. This shows her diverse background in writing. In an interview with The Guardian about Grafton's book "Kinsey and Me",
Crace describes that "Kinsey Millhone, then, is Grafton by another name. Grafton in a parallel universe.". Crace explains that Kinsey often resembles
Grafton. Kinsey is Grafton's alter ego; saying and doing things that Grafton would not normally do in her everyday life.
Believing in the what the author writes is an important fact for fictional books. Grafton creates well developed characters and places that are
believable and real; even if they are complete fiction. Thompson Writing Program at Duke University explains that believing in the author's world is an
important fact (Writing Studio, 2018).
Duke University continues to explain that you should "[f]inish the book before forming your conclusions about it" (Writing Studio, 2018). This is
especially true. I found that while reading the book, I kept changing my opinion of who the true murderer was, only to have my world turned upside
down with the truth. The end of a fictional book can completely be a twist from what you believe, or want to believe.
The University of North Carolina says that "a review makes an argument" (Center, 2018). In reading the following book review of "A

Ms. Hinko
CP English 10– P5 13 October 2017 The Book Thief Summer Reading Essay In The Book Thief ,by Markus Zusak, Death explores the world of
Liesel Meminger and how she interprets the troubles of her time. In the book Death roams around Germany and is intrigued by Liesel's story. Liesel is
a young girl from Germany with a passion of reading books, and she has just moved and is getting used to her new town. Death is a caring character
that shows his affection for people, he shows an opinion on the pain of war and killing, and also shows an opinion on the change of children in
Germany. Although Death is not the most pleasant name in the book he cares for people, he is never happy to take a body. Whenever Death is taking a
soul he tells a story of why he does not enjoy to take souls. Or what he feels when he is taking a soul from it's body "When their fingernails had
scratched at the wood and in some cases were nailed into the sheer force of desperation, their spirits came toward me, into my arms, and we climbed
out of those shower facilities, onto the roof and up, into eternity's certain breadth." (Zusak 349). This show's Deaths thoughts to the reader. He is able
to show what he is feeling as he swoops the souls out of the people's body's. Having Death as the narrator gives you much more knowledge on the
other problem happening in Germany other than Liesel and her family hiding a jew. Also having Death

I have read quite a few books in my lifetime, yet none of them have inspired and changed me as much has When Breath Becomes Air. Your words

Fahrenheit 451 : Book Review
What I take from it: Fahrenheit 451 Book Review Summary Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of a fireman named Guy Montag
who, after realizing how unhappy he is in Bradbury's dystopian society, begins questioning what the government wants him to believe. Montag
exists in a world where firefighters are actually fire starters. Books are also extremely illegal, and if found inside one's home, it and everything
inside will be burned to the ground. Bradbury starts his story with Montag meeting a young girl named Clarisse McClellan, who gives Montag an
entirely new perspective as to what kind of society he is living in. Montag continues to develop his relationship with Clarisse and he becomes
progressively confused, until Clarisse mysteriously disappears. Although she is gone, Clarisse continues to influence Montag's thinking and while
he is at work burning an elderly woman's home, he steals one of the books in her possession. Upon realizing the gravity of his situation, Montag
seeks and finds an ally in an old English professor by the name of Faber. Together, him and Montag develop a plan to take down society from the
inside. Later the same night, Montag heads to work as usual and answers an alarm claiming a local household is hiding books within its' walls. The
kicker, however, is when the firemen pull up to Montag's own house and find Mildred, his wife, running down the front lawn and hopping into a cab.
Montag's somewhat–psychotic captain Beatty forces him to

The Ka, a novel
An example of book review writing can be found listed with most books sold on the Net and on the writer's Web sites.
A good sample book review would pertain to writing your personal feelings about a book that you've read.
Writing a book review is not to be confused with writing a summary of a book. Writing a summary is a totally different matter and that will be covered
eventually in my Articles section.
In my opinion, no real format exists for writing book reviews. Writing help may not be needed. An example of book review variations is shown below.
Some rules do apply, however, and you will see that they are loose and easy to apply.

The Ka is a book for all tastes. This skillfully craft novel contains history, science, mysticism, mystery, intrigue, humor and romance in a neat package
that is not just entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination.
Mary Deal has created word images so vivid it is almost like watching a movie. She takes you for a romp through ancient Egyptian history as an
archaeological team finds and opens a tomb in Valley of the Queens.
An archaeological student has the mystical ability to communicate with the ancient Egyptians, and this keeps the story moving at a breathtaking pace.
The Ka is a delight to read. One can only hope that from a writer of this talent, there will be many more books to come.

more detailed sense of how their book is be accepted.
A lengthy review – good or bad – can help an author improve their writing.
Hopefully, if it's a review that leans toward something negative, it comes as a pre–review, before the book goes to publication. Then things can be
corrected or changed.

Review Of 'The Book Thief' Essays
Review of: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
It seems sometimes like the market for young adult literature is written down to the readers, almost in a condescending manner. That is why a
book like The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is so refreshing in this sea of cookie cutter romances and fantasies. While classified as a young adult
novel, it deals with very serious themes. The book's cover comes printed with this label: "It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath.
Death has never been busier, and will become busier still." It is a dark allusion to what is to come. But Zusak makes this story more accessible to the
audience he is writing to and does this by creating identifiable characters, by bringing humor into...show more content...

kindness, and is closer to him from the beginning than to her foster mother. He is one of a few in their village who is not a registered member of
the Nazi party, which comes to have serious repercussions on the family as the book progresses. Rosa Hubermann is a stern, strong woman who
looks like a "wardrobe with a coat thrown over it" and would be "cute," but appears perpetually annoyed. She peppers her language with epithets
like "Saumensch" and "Saukerl" and "Arschloch". "Sau" refers to "pig" and mensch is girl and kerl is man, arschloch sounds pretty close to its
English equivalent. From the beginning Liesel is "saumensch," which at first refers to Rosa's annoyance at taking this girl in, even though it does
mean more money for the family. But by the end, it has become a term of true endearment. Liesel's best friend in the village is a little boy named

Achieving success, whether it is in a personal, social, or professional setting, is often the end goal of most human efforts. Most of the time, acquiring
that success requires hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Yet it is often difficult to maintain the continual motivation needed to overcome the
frequent obstacles and setbacks that litter the road to success. C.P Neck's and C. Manz's book, Mastering Self–Leadership: Empowering Yourself for
Personal Excellence, explores strategies and tools to strengthen the key attribute that provides sustenance for an individual's motivation, self–leadership.
The tools encompass ideas such as world–altering strategies, natural reward system, and positive thinking. While each is a different, unique...show more

As the author's shifted focus to psychologically driven concepts, such as mental and thought patterns, the strategies shifted from creating a positive
environment to overcoming obstacles. One of the first steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an "imagined
experience". Envisioning success bolsters a person's morale and provides a renewed vigor with which to attack the obstacle.
Although the text focused on self–leadership, the authors did discuss how self–leadership is directly tied into the success of teams. The same strategies,
which improve self–leadership in oneself, can be extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal–setting, strong team beliefs and team mental
imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team, there must be a balance of "me and we", meaning that while
individualistic goals must be set and followed, they must coincide with team goals and neither should "outweigh" the other. The importance of fitness
to self–image and self–leadership was the penultimate strategy discussed in the text. Studies illustrated the benefits of fitness resulting in improved job
performance and professional satisfaction. Lastly, the text discussed the importance of life factors such as happiness, emotional satisfaction, and social
responsibility to self–leadership. Different personality types approach

The Diary of Anne Frank Book Review Essay
The Diary of Anne Frank Book Review
On June 12, 1929, at 7:30 AM, a baby girl was born in Frankfort, Germany. No one realized that this infant, who was Jewish, was destined to
become one of the worlds most famous victims of World War II. Her name was Anne Frank. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank
and B.M. Mooyaart, was actually the real diary of Anne Frank. Anne was a girl who lived with her family during the time while the Nazis took power
over Germany. Because they were Jewish, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank immigrated to Holland in 1933. Hitler invaded Holland on May 10,
1940, a month before Anne?s eleventh birthday. In July 1942, Anne's family went into hiding in the Prinsengracht building....show more content...
Almost every person at one point in his or her lives takes something for granted. Just imagining what Anne and her family had to go through makes us
realize that life is rough sometimes, and we may not always get what we want, but it could always be worse, and maybe we should learn to take
pleasure in the little things life has to offer.
From reading this book, we gathered a lot of information. One of the most important messages was that things don?t come easy for everyone, and
you should appreciate what you have when you have it because in a matter of days, it could all be gone. Like we said before, life could always be
worse, I mean we could be dead (knock on wood). We knew this girl who had everything that she could possibly want. She was very lucky, yet she
never really appreciated what was handed to her every day. One day, while driving to her friends? house, she was hit by a car, and she wasn?t so
lucky anymore. She could no longer walk, or even talk. In a matter of seconds, her whole life was changed. Had she known this was going to happen,
I?m sure there would have been more ?I love you?s? or ?thank you?s?, and maybe spent less time worrying about how people looked and more time
worrying about how they felt. Appreciating the small things life has to offer is something everyone should learn to do. Anne and

The Notebook Book Review By Nicholas Sparks
The Notebook Book Review
Nicholas Sparks specializes in writing romance books that appeal to realistic readers. He takes his writings one step further by adding the elements of
situations that occur in everyday life. In the very beginning of the book he dedicates the story to Cathy, who is identified as his "friend and
wife."(Sparks 1). Because The Notebook is dedicated to the author's wife, one can infer that the theme of this novel deals with love, relationships and
life. The dedication to Cathy basically mirrors everything else about the novel. It establishes the tone for the entire text. In fact, Sparks admitted
himself that "The genesis of the novel was from [his] own family." So not only is The Notebook about Allie and Noah, it is also aboutNicholas Sparks
and his wife Cathy. Nicholas Sparks reveals his story in two ways. In one way he tells the story through present day Allie and Noah and how they
are both elderly living in an assisted care home. "There is sickness rolling through my body; I 'm neither strong nor healthy, and my days are spent
like an old party balloon: listless, spongy and growing softer over time" (Sparks 2). The other way he tells the story is by reflecting upon the past,
describing how Allie and Noah met one summer, fell in love, were separated, but somehow managed to find each other again. "Our souls are
connected . . . I know I have spent everylife before this one searching for you . . .We will find each other again, and maybe the stars will

All Quiet on the Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front– A Book Review
Professor's Comments: This is a good example of a book review typically required in history classes. It is unbiased and thoughtful. The Student explains
the book and the time in which it was written in great detail, without retelling the entire story... a pitfall that many first time reviewers may experience.
All Quiet on the Western Front is the story of Paul Baumer's service as a soldier in the German army during World War I. Paul and his classmates enlist
together, share experiences together, grow together, share disillusionment over the loss of their youth, and the friends even experience the horrors of
death–– together. Though the book is a novel, it gives the reader...show more content...
The story is as relevant today as it was when published in 1929 because it is the story of more than war; it is the story of humanity. The book begins
with the death of Paul's friend. The men have, by this time, become almost desensitized to death. Kemmerich (the dying friend) owns a fine pair of
English airman's boots. It is a forgone conclusion that Kemmerich will no longer require them. It is not petty greed, but pragmatism, which drives
Muller's desire to have the boots. The troops' own equipment is ragged and worn, making anything in serviceable condition an improvement on what
they have. As we find out in the story, not only are the soldiers' boots worn out, but the artillery of the German army is also worn out. This may
symbolize that not only are the soldiers and equipment at the front worn out, but so is Germany as a whole. Germany was worn out and had no idea
what was going to happen, just as the soldiers had no idea where the artillery shells would land.
Paul reminisces about his days in school and how he and his friends believed the indoctrination they had received from their schoolmaster. However,
after experiencing war, Paul questions the fervent nationalism of the Germans. What has nationalism done for Germany other than destroy the country?
In blindly following the words of his elders, Paul has achieved nothing except to become an old man at the age of twenty. Not only does Paul now
question his schoolmaster's reasoning, but he also

Book Review Of Night By Elie Wiesel
An important nonfiction book that I think everyone should read is Night by Elie Wiesel. This book was published in 1960 by Hill and Wang. It has
116 pages and it is told by a man who survived the Holocaust. This was a very important moment in history that everyone needs knowledge on. Elie
Wiesel was 15 when the Nazis came for the 15,000 Jews of his hometown of Sighet, Transylvania, in May 1944. Upon arrival at Auschwitz–Birkenau,
his mother and sister were murdered within hours, while he was put to work as a slave laborer. Eight months later, the Germans evacuated the
camp and forced the survivors on a death march that ended at Buchenwald. Wiesel was one of the few still alive when the Americans arrived in
April 1945. Now this is a hard book to read. The writing is clear, but it is difficult nonetheless. Who wants to read about torture and genocide, about
people being ripped from their homes, losing their faith and turning on their own families? It is depressing, to say the least. However, this book is
not about making the reader sad, it is about remembering. Wiesel wrote his memoir so that we would remember what happened and remember what
humans are capable of. Wiesel tells the complete truth about his experience, and the reader is left with hard questions. Although it's a painful story,
he gives you real insight into the tragic horrors that took place. When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is another good read. It was published by
Random House in in 2009 and has 224 pages.

review is Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis. Ellis' goal in writing this book was to define the political events and achievements that gained historical
significance because they framed the successive history of the United States. Ellis wrote on this specific topic because he felt the need to argue the fact
that the American Revolution and the greatness achieved by the founding generation were the result of a collective effort. Ellis emphasizes that the

Overall, based on the sources used, the history is unbiased, although Ellis does acknowledge the sometimes exaggerated and biased writings of the

The Giver Book Review Essay

  • 1. The Giver Book Review Essay The Giver book review By:Tejah Thull Imagine having a life with no memory. Like not being able to see color, having only the food needed, and no feelings. Is the society really perfect? Readers follow the main character, Jonas as he attends his changes. Like his new job, and becoming a true human. Jonas the main character in The Giver, could be best described as caring and adventurous. Jonas' caring was the main factor to his success at the Receiver of Memories. He was caring to The Giver by taking the bad memories from him when he was really weak, like the war, and sunburn. Before Jonas was running away his dad said they were going to release Jape so he took Jape with him so he could live. When Jape and Jonas were running away, Jonas gave all of his warm memories to Jape so he could stay warm. Jonas' adventurous was the main...show more content... First of all, living a life without memory is hard. Like when all you see is gray because you can't see color. Also not knowing what happen in the past, so you only know what happened from the start of your life and on. Another reason is having to take a pill so you don't have stirrings or the feeling of love. Another good example is be thankful for what you have. Like when The Giver tells Jonas about how his own daughter, Rosemary asked for release. Then Jonas being the only one able to see color in his community. Most importantly not losing Jape and taking him with him. Put it all together, the thought life without memory, and being thankful for what you have and you get two very good themes, with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Night Book Review Essay Book Review Night by Elie Wiesel was one of the best books I have ever read. Night is the story about Elie's horrible time spent in Auschwitz and Buna the death camps. This story impacted me the most because all of this is real. Elie's mother and sister were murdered as soon as they arrived. The story goes on telling his unimaginable experiences with his father in 1944 during the Holocaust. The book opens with Elie's life before him and his family were taken away. The story continues talking about how when they arrived in Auschwitz his mother and sister were taken to the crematorium with other women and children who were not strong enough to work in the camps. The only people left from Elie's family were him and his father. Throughout the whole book Elie talks about how his father was his only motivation to keep going. When Elie's father dies he contemplates to keep going or just to give in. In the end he is liberated and is freed....show more content... Elie was lucky to have lived through the death camps Auschwitz and Buna. Out of 11 million people 5 million were women and children and non–jews but 7 million were jews. Only about 70 people who were in Auschwitz came out alive. Night is told in such a way that even 45 years later I felt like I was right there with him throughout the whole book. If you are a person who wants to learn more about the Holocaust I couldn't recommend Night enough. You will go on an adventure where your only concern was staying alive. Elie will never forget what happened and after you read this book you won't either. In my opinion, the best part of night was in the end when he was liberated. This is the best part because throughout the whole book I thought in the back of my mind how can he survive in these conditions. When he was freed it gave me some relief because if he hadn't survived the whole Wiesel family would've been wiped out, and there would be no one left to tell his Get more content on HelpWriting.net

For the first sight I misunderstood it as a hilarious farce, however,as soon as I finished this masterpiece, the demoralize degeneracy of common people's soul touched me profoundly. In this book , the populace are divided into two parts, the Party and the proles, which refer to the exploiting and the exploited class, the upper class and the underdog. It's a hellish world with a dictatorial government, unbearable stupidity and countless falsefications. The lack of humanity, awareness and civilization makes it unblievable. • 4. Review : Book Review The reaction of the curators' fellow academics largely ranged from mixed to positive, with criticism being much more nuanced and muted than the comment books and national press. Former Librarian of the United States Congress and Historian, Daniel Boorstin, was a notable exception, who led the charge against the exhibit commenting in the first guestbook that it was "perverse, historically inaccurate [and] destructive." Most academic reviews were positive, especially praising the catalogue which provided considerably more nuanced and detailed analysis that the wall texts. Some historians found it hard to see what all the fuss was about, with Byron Pierce remarking that the ideas expressed in the exhibit were "hardly controversial to...show more content... Similarly, in the introduction, Broun stated that the show dealt with issues that "America still struggles with today" while Truettner stated "Today, a century after America's creation myth was ushered into the world, we struggle with its inadequacies and insensitivities," indicating that the exhibition was indeed making a comment on contemporary society. This opened up a powerful line of attack against the curators in the comment book with one guest writing, "It is ironic that an exhibit which accuses all American frontier art as being the lowest form of false propaganda should itself resort to propaganda of the most obvious, most popular kind." (in footnotes another accused the curators of doig exactly what they accused the artists of doing) The historian Thomas Vale mounted a similar criticism, wondering "what 'hidden agenda's' lurk in conscious or subconscious minds of the writers" if one were to apply the same scepticism TWAA applied to Western artists. Vale concludes that, much like the artists, the writers were simply reflecting the social concerns of their times. As displayed throughout this dissertation, this was very much the case and had the curators acknowledged this, they may have staved off some of the criticism, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Harry Potter Series : Book Review Have you ever read the Harry Potter series? I bade you to read the Harry Potter series. I have three reasons why you should read the novel, and they are: if you like magic, if you like wizards and witches, if you like suspense, then read the Harry Potter series. However, if you haven't read the series, here is a brief description of the first book of the novel: "The Fantasy Novel, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', By J.K. Rowling is about a boy named Harry Potter who was a one year old that was left on the doorstep of his mother's sister's house, (Petunia Dursley). His Aunt and her husband, Vernon Dursley, accepted Harry. Eleven years later Harry Potter receives a letter from one of the best schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry namedHogwarts, a school for magic people. When Harry finds out he is a wizard, he sets off for Hogwarts, where he finds that he is very famous because of his lightning shaped scar and his great Quidditch skills. He also meets many kind people and his very first best friends, named Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry, Ron, and Hermione survive all the way to the end of the novel, where they discover that the Sorcerer's Stone is about to be stolen, so Harry Ron, and Hermione try to save the stone. Finally Harry Potter alone reaches the stone where he meets the thief of the stone, the Dark Lord. There he most importantly finds a path he must take later in the series to overtake the Dark Lord, if he could survive his destiny." After reading Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It eluded us then, but that's no matter – tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther . . . . And one fine morning– So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." This is one of some famous quote about The Great Gatsby. Today, I want to discuss this book, which is one of my favorite book and movie. The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is always considered to be the "must read" novel by book critics around the world. The Modern Library ranked The Great Gatsby at number two on the list of the 100 best novels of the 20th century. Time magazine honors The Great Gatsby as one of the 10 greatest literary works of all time. The Great Gatsby is told by Nick Carraway's memoirs of what happened in 1922 with Gatsby's close friend and secret relationship with his cousin–in–law, Daisy, "for the rest of Gatsby's life set up a property. , this estate is also due to get the beauties. • 7. Book Review : A Review Of A Book Review Book reviews are just that: a review of a book. They can be used for news articles, blogs, or academic journals. A book review is more than just a book report. It can give the reader more of an insight into not just the book, but the author as well. Most authors write of what they know. For example, some authors have backgrounds in law enforcement so they write about cases they know or have worked. Other authors research groups of people, for example the Knights Templar, and write of what they have learned. Others yet develop a hypothesis and write of what they discovered, proving or disproving their hypothesis. It is important to remember which genre you are interested in when reading a book review. You may find that because of...show more content... During my research of her, I learned that she has written several other books other than the alphabet murder series. She also has written screen plays, a fact that was new to me. This shows her diverse background in writing. In an interview with The Guardian about Grafton's book "Kinsey and Me", Crace describes that "Kinsey Millhone, then, is Grafton by another name. Grafton in a parallel universe.". Crace explains that Kinsey often resembles Grafton. Kinsey is Grafton's alter ego; saying and doing things that Grafton would not normally do in her everyday life. Believing in the what the author writes is an important fact for fictional books. Grafton creates well developed characters and places that are believable and real; even if they are complete fiction. Thompson Writing Program at Duke University explains that believing in the author's world is an important fact (Writing Studio, 2018). Duke University continues to explain that you should "[f]inish the book before forming your conclusions about it" (Writing Studio, 2018). This is especially true. I found that while reading the book, I kept changing my opinion of who the true murderer was, only to have my world turned upside down with the truth. The end of a fictional book can completely be a twist from what you believe, or want to believe. The University of North Carolina says that "a review makes an argument" (Center, 2018). • 8. Book Review : The Book Thief William Rissing Ms. Hinko CP English 10– P5 13 October 2017 The Book Thief Summer Reading Essay In The Book Thief ,by Markus Zusak, Death explores the world of Liesel Meminger and how she interprets the troubles of her time. In the book Death roams around Germany and is intrigued by Liesel's story. Liesel is a young girl from Germany with a passion of reading books, and she has just moved and is getting used to her new town. Death is a caring character that shows his affection for people, he shows an opinion on the pain of war and killing, and also shows an opinion on the change of children in Germany. Although Death is not the most pleasant name in the book he cares for people, he is never happy to take a body. Whenever Death is taking a soul he tells a story of why he does not enjoy to take souls. Or what he feels when he is taking a soul from it's body "When their fingernails had scratched at the wood and in some cases were nailed into the sheer force of desperation, their spirits came toward me, into my arms, and we climbed out of those shower facilities, onto the roof and up, into eternity's certain breadth." (Zusak 349). This show's Deaths thoughts to the reader. He is able to show what he is feeling as he swoops the souls out of the people's body's. Having Death as the narrator gives you much more knowledge on the other problem happening in Germany other than Liesel and her family hiding a jew. • 9. Book Review: When Breath Becomes Air I have read quite a few books in my lifetime, yet none of them have inspired and changed me as much has When Breath Becomes Air. Your words have also changed the way I view patients with terminal illnesses. You dedicated your life to neurosurgery, but in the end, it went to ruin. I've realized it doesn't matter how long you live, but rather, how you live. In the first part of your book, you tell the story of how you grew up and were nurtured by hard–working Indian immigrant parents, a story I can heavily relate to. You explain the way your parents helped you become interested inmedicine. At one point, you said it was not a career but a "calling." Your success in the neurological field gives me inspiration for the future. Your commitment to...show more content... As you stated, if you have ten more years to live after the terminal illness, you would go back to medicine and curing people instead of spending time with loved ones . This dedication helped me realize how the amount of effort I put into education will repay itself in the future. • 10. Fahrenheit 451 : Book Review What I take from it: Fahrenheit 451 Book Review Summary Ray Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of a fireman named Guy Montag who, after realizing how unhappy he is in Bradbury's dystopian society, begins questioning what the government wants him to believe. Montag exists in a world where firefighters are actually fire starters. Books are also extremely illegal, and if found inside one's home, it and everything inside will be burned to the ground. Bradbury starts his story with Montag meeting a young girl named Clarisse McClellan, who gives Montag an entirely new perspective as to what kind of society he is living in. Montag continues to develop his relationship with Clarisse and he becomes progressively confused, until Clarisse mysteriously disappears. Although she is gone, Clarisse continues to influence Montag's thinking and while he is at work burning an elderly woman's home, he steals one of the books in her possession. Upon realizing the gravity of his situation, Montag seeks and finds an ally in an old English professor by the name of Faber. Together, him and Montag develop a plan to take down society from the inside. Later the same night, Montag heads to work as usual and answers an alarm claiming a local household is hiding books within its' walls. The kicker, however, is when the firemen pull up to Montag's own house and find Mildred, his wife, running down the front lawn and hopping into a cab. • 11. Examples of Book Review Example of Book Review The Ka, a novel An example of book review writing can be found listed with most books sold on the Net and on the writer's Web sites. A good sample book review would pertain to writing your personal feelings about a book that you've read. Writing a book review is not to be confused with writing a summary of a book. Writing a summary is a totally different matter and that will be covered eventually in my Articles section. In my opinion, no real format exists for writing book reviews. Writing help may not be needed. An example of book review variations is shown below. Some rules do apply, however, and you will see that they are loose and easy to apply. This skillfully craft novel contains history, science, mysticism, mystery, intrigue, humor and romance in a neat package that is not just entertaining but challenges your mind and imagination. Mary Deal has created word images so vivid it is almost like watching a movie. She takes you for a romp through ancient Egyptian history as an archaeological team finds and opens a tomb in Valley of the Queens. An archaeological student has the mystical ability to communicate with the ancient Egyptians, and this keeps the story moving at a breathtaking pace. The Ka is a delight to read. One can only hope that from a writer of this talent, there will be many more books to come. ~~ Joseph J. • 13. Review Of 'The Book Thief' Essays Review of: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak It seems sometimes like the market for young adult literature is written down to the readers, almost in a condescending manner. That is why a book like The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is so refreshing in this sea of cookie cutter romances and fantasies. While classified as a young adult novel, it deals with very serious themes. The book's cover comes printed with this label: "It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still." It is a dark allusion to what is to come. But Zusak makes this story more accessible to the audience he is writing to and does this by creating identifiable characters, by bringing humor into...show more content... Liesel believes his eyes show kindness, and is closer to him from the beginning than to her foster mother. He is one of a few in their village who is not a registered member of the Nazi party, which comes to have serious repercussions on the family as the book progresses. Rosa Hubermann is a stern, strong woman who looks like a "wardrobe with a coat thrown over it" and would be "cute," but appears perpetually annoyed. She peppers her language with epithets like "Saumensch" and "Saukerl" and "Arschloch". "Sau" refers to "pig" and mensch is girl and kerl is man, arschloch sounds pretty close to its English equivalent. From the beginning Liesel is "saumensch," which at first refers to Rosa's annoyance at taking this girl in, even though it does mean more money for the family. But by the end, it has become a term of true endearment. Liesel's best friend in the village is a little boy named Rudy, "the boy next door who was obsessed with the black American athleteJesse Owens." Rudy is in love with Liesel and always pesters her for a kiss, which he does finally receive, after some pretty serious turns in the story. • 14. Book Review Essay Achieving success, whether it is in a personal, social, or professional setting, is often the end goal of most human efforts. Most of the time, acquiring that success requires hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Yet it is often difficult to maintain the continual motivation needed to overcome the frequent obstacles and setbacks that litter the road to success. C.P Neck's and C. Manz's book, Mastering Self–Leadership: Empowering Yourself for Personal Excellence, explores strategies and tools to strengthen the key attribute that provides sustenance for an individual's motivation, self–leadership. The tools encompass ideas such as world–altering strategies, natural reward system, and positive thinking. While each is a different, unique...show more content... As the author's shifted focus to psychologically driven concepts, such as mental and thought patterns, the strategies shifted from creating a positive environment to overcoming obstacles. One of the first steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an "imagined experience". Envisioning success bolsters a person's morale and provides a renewed vigor with which to attack the obstacle. Although the text focused on self–leadership, the authors did discuss how self–leadership is directly tied into the success of teams. The same strategies, which improve self–leadership in oneself, can be extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal–setting, strong team beliefs and team mental imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team, there must be a balance of "me and we", meaning that while individualistic goals must be set and followed, they must coincide with team goals and neither should "outweigh" the other. The importance of fitness to self–image and self–leadership was the penultimate strategy discussed in the text. Studies illustrated the benefits of fitness resulting in improved job performance and professional satisfaction. Lastly, the text discussed the importance of life factors such as happiness, emotional satisfaction, and social responsibility to self–leadership. • 15. The Diary of Anne Frank Book Review Essay The Diary of Anne Frank Book Review On June 12, 1929, at 7:30 AM, a baby girl was born in Frankfort, Germany. No one realized that this infant, who was Jewish, was destined to become one of the worlds most famous victims of World War II. Her name was Anne Frank. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank and B.M. Mooyaart, was actually the real diary of Anne Frank. Anne was a girl who lived with her family during the time while the Nazis took power over Germany. Because they were Jewish, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank immigrated to Holland in 1933. Hitler invaded Holland on May 10, 1940, a month before Anne?s eleventh birthday. In July 1942, Anne's family went into hiding in the Prinsengracht building....show more content... Almost every person at one point in his or her lives takes something for granted. Just imagining what Anne and her family had to go through makes us realize that life is rough sometimes, and we may not always get what we want, but it could always be worse, and maybe we should learn to take pleasure in the little things life has to offer. From reading this book, we gathered a lot of information. One of the most important messages was that things don?t come easy for everyone, and you should appreciate what you have when you have it because in a matter of days, it could all be gone. Like we said before, life could always be worse, I mean we could be dead (knock on wood). We knew this girl who had everything that she could possibly want. She was very lucky, yet she never really appreciated what was handed to her every day. One day, while driving to her friends? house, she was hit by a car, and she wasn?t so lucky anymore. She could no longer walk, or even talk. In a matter of seconds, her whole life was changed. Had she known this was going to happen, I?m sure there would have been more ?I love you?s? or ?thank you?s?, and maybe spent less time worrying about how people looked and more time worrying about how they felt. Appreciating the small things life has to offer is something everyone should learn to do. Anne and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. The Notebook Book Review By Nicholas Sparks The Notebook Book Review Nicholas Sparks specializes in writing romance books that appeal to realistic readers. He takes his writings one step further by adding the elements of situations that occur in everyday life. In the very beginning of the book he dedicates the story to Cathy, who is identified as his "friend and wife."(Sparks 1). Because The Notebook is dedicated to the author's wife, one can infer that the theme of this novel deals with love, relationships and life. The dedication to Cathy basically mirrors everything else about the novel. It establishes the tone for the entire text. In fact, Sparks admitted himself that "The genesis of the novel was from [his] own family." So not only is The Notebook about Allie and Noah, it is also aboutNicholas Sparks and his wife Cathy. Nicholas Sparks reveals his story in two ways. In one way he tells the story through present day Allie and Noah and how they are both elderly living in an assisted care home. "There is sickness rolling through my body; I 'm neither strong nor healthy, and my days are spent like an old party balloon: listless, spongy and growing softer over time" (Sparks 2). The other way he tells the story is by reflecting upon the past, describing how Allie and Noah met one summer, fell in love, were separated, but somehow managed to find each other again. "Our souls are connected . . . I know I have spent everylife before this one searching for you . . .We will find each other again, and maybe the stars will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. All Quiet on the Western Front All Quiet on the Western Front– A Book Review Professor's Comments: This is a good example of a book review typically required in history classes. It is unbiased and thoughtful. The Student explains the book and the time in which it was written in great detail, without retelling the entire story... a pitfall that many first time reviewers may experience. All Quiet on the Western Front is the story of Paul Baumer's service as a soldier in the German army during World War I. Paul and his classmates enlist together, share experiences together, grow together, share disillusionment over the loss of their youth, and the friends even experience the horrors of death–– together. Though the book is a novel, it gives the reader...show more content... The story is as relevant today as it was when published in 1929 because it is the story of more than war; it is the story of humanity. The book begins with the death of Paul's friend. The men have, by this time, become almost desensitized to death. Kemmerich (the dying friend) owns a fine pair of English airman's boots. It is a forgone conclusion that Kemmerich will no longer require them. It is not petty greed, but pragmatism, which drives Muller's desire to have the boots. The troops' own equipment is ragged and worn, making anything in serviceable condition an improvement on what they have. As we find out in the story, not only are the soldiers' boots worn out, but the artillery of the German army is also worn out. This may symbolize that not only are the soldiers and equipment at the front worn out, but so is Germany as a whole. Germany was worn out and had no idea what was going to happen, just as the soldiers had no idea where the artillery shells would land. Paul reminisces about his days in school and how he and his friends believed the indoctrination they had received from their schoolmaster. However, after experiencing war, Paul questions the fervent nationalism of the Germans. What has nationalism done for Germany other than destroy the country? In blindly following the words of his elders, Paul has achieved nothing except to become an old man at the age of twenty. Not only does Paul now question his schoolmaster's reasoning, but he also Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Book Review Of Night By Elie Wiesel An important nonfiction book that I think everyone should read is Night by Elie Wiesel. This book was published in 1960 by Hill and Wang. It has 116 pages and it is told by a man who survived the Holocaust. This was a very important moment in history that everyone needs knowledge on. Elie Wiesel was 15 when the Nazis came for the 15,000 Jews of his hometown of Sighet, Transylvania, in May 1944. Upon arrival at Auschwitz–Birkenau, his mother and sister were murdered within hours, while he was put to work as a slave laborer. Eight months later, the Germans evacuated the camp and forced the survivors on a death march that ended at Buchenwald. Wiesel was one of the few still alive when the Americans arrived in April 1945. Now this is a hard book to read. The writing is clear, but it is difficult nonetheless. Who wants to read about torture and genocide, about people being ripped from their homes, losing their faith and turning on their own families? It is depressing, to say the least. However, this book is not about making the reader sad, it is about remembering. Wiesel wrote his memoir so that we would remember what happened and remember what humans are capable of. Wiesel tells the complete truth about his experience, and the reader is left with hard questions. Although it's a painful story, he gives you real insight into the tragic horrors that took place. When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is another good read. It was published by Random House in in 2009 and has 224 pages. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. Founding Brothers Book Review Essay Ellis, Joseph J. Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2000. Print. The book being critiqued in the following review is Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis. Ellis' goal in writing this book was to define the political events and achievements that gained historical significance because they framed the successive history of the United States. Ellis wrote on this specific topic because he felt the need to argue the fact that the American Revolution and the greatness achieved by the founding generation were the result of a collective effort. Ellis emphasizes that the success of the United States, at the time of its formation, was not an inevitable conclusion. At the time, it was an improbable result that...show more content... Ellis describes a heated House debate in 1790 where slavery was reluctantly addressed. Benjamin Franklin and James Madison's reactions are discussed. Ellis recognizes that in this moment, compromise was absent and the divisions within the country were becoming increasingly conspicuous. Ellis emphasize that making slavery a non–issue eventually led to the Civil War. The next event described by Ellis was the publishing ofGeorge Washington 's Farewell Address. Ellis addresses Washington's legacy and regard for future generations of America. In his next story, Ellis examines how the relationships of 1776 turned into more sensible collaborations that would mold American history. Ellis focuses mainly on the relationship between Jefferson and Adams as well as Adams' collaboration with his wife, Abigail. In his final piece of evidence, Ellis tells the story of the extensive communication between Adams and Jefferson during the last fourteen years of their lives, restoring their lost friendship after a political betrayal. Overall, based on the sources used, the history is unbiased, although Ellis does acknowledge the sometimes exaggerated and biased writings of the Founding Fathers and of those who were around them at the time. These occasional obscurities are recognized and addressed by Ellis. However, the book is historically accurate and gives an objective view of each situation.
