A Summary was a relatively short piece, with its point to be speaking towards the American people in general not just to an elitist group. It looked
upon the struggle for justice within American Colonist's lives (Bottorff, 33). However Jefferson's main idea within this book was that the British

Who was Thomas Jefferson? Most people just think of him as the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence or just one of our many presidents.
That's not the case. Jefferson was more than that, He was a very intelligent man and a loving father and grandfather. Thomas Jefferson was also an
inventor and one of the most significant men in the history of making America who we are today.
One of our founding fathers and our third president, Thomas Jefferson was a very well–known man. He was born on April 13th, 1743 in a small town
called Shadwell in Virginia. He was born at his father 's tobacco plantation on the Rivanna River, which flows through a gap in a small range called
the Southwest Mountains. In 1760 when Jefferson turned 17 he rode to Williamsburg so he could attend the college of William and Mary. (Twilight
at Monticello, 14) After college Thomas Jefferson soon founded the University of Virginia. Years later during the Revolutionary war, he decided to
write the Declaration of Independence ending the war and declaring America's independence on July 4th. His presidential term lasted for exactly

I think it expanded greatly on Thomas Jefferson's great qualities and only briefly stated any bad qualities he may have possessed, such as, speaking in
public, Sally Hemmings and his slave ownership. Risjord willingly explains his wonderful writings like the Tea Act Reform (page 22) and the
Declaration of Independence. (page 28–32) Even though Norman Risjord may have been somewhat sympathetic to Thomas Jefferson, I feel in no
way was Norman Risjord apologetic towards Jefferson. Norman Risjord did and excellent job of stating the true facts about Thomas Jefferson without
seeming apologetic or critical at any time. I feel that most of the time the book was a very fair and balanced appraisal of Thomas Jefferson.

figures in American history. No leader in the period of the American Enlightenment was as articulate, wise, or conscious of the implications and
consequences of a free society as Thomas Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson was born April 13, 1743 (April 2, old style), on the farm called Shadwell, adjoining what is now Monticello, in the county of
Albermarle, Virginia.

On the paternal side, Mr. Jefferson could number no titles to high or ancient lineage. His ancestors, however, were of solid respectability and among
the first settlers of Virginia. They emigrated to this country from Wales, and from near the mountain of Snowden. His grandfather was the first of
whom we have any particular information. He had three sons: Thomas, who died young; Field, who resided on the waters of the Roanoke and left
numerous descendants; and Peter, the father of the subject of these memoirs, who settled in Albermarle county, on the lands called Shadwell. He was
the third or fourth settler in that region of the country. They were all gentlemen of property and influence in the colony.
But the chief glory of Mr. Jefferson's genealogy was the sturdy contempt of hereditary honors and distinctions with which the whole race was imbued. It
was a strong genealogical feature, pervading all the branches of the primitive stock and forming a remarkable head and concentration in the individual
