Iphone Persuasive Essay
I noticed the other night, by watching clients of Frog and British Library, this pub in the 13th arrondissement where I often think (see Le Point
nŠ’Ā°2128) before going to dinner at the Lotus, at the corner of avenue of Ivry and of avenue of Choisy, in the heart of Chinatown, that the use we
make of the iPhone is the same as that made by Gollum with the ring in The lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien, on 1892ā€“1973). We always have our
iPhone on us, like Gollum and, later, Bilbo and Frodon. We continuously touch it, because we both want it and are afraid of losing it. The slightest
doubt ā€“ a question up in air in an insignificant conversation, such as: how old is Sharon Stone? or: Is Grace Park from "Hawaii 5. 0" married? ā€“ is
enough for five or six rings, I mean iPhones, to appear around the table. The iPhone stores all the memory of the world, so does the ring. As soon as
we switch it on, society watches us just like Sauron watches, with his unique and vertical eye, the bearer of the ring. The iPhone conquered restaurants
but also family dinners: every guest keeps his phone close to his plate. It was not possible to leave this magical object in our pocket any more, we
need to leave it next to what we eat, what we drink and the people we love. The iPhone has settled among loving couples as...show more content...
The iPhone is an informer glued to the butt of the Universe. The CIA, FSB and Mossad are at our service in this little notebook, which contains
billions of notes. It is a gift and a toy, two things that an adult must be wary of. Because of it, our life is transformed, like that of the bearer of the
ring, into a contradictory quest: our fascination for it and our desire to free ourselves from it. If each of us, thanks to the iPhone, possesses the
world, it is because each of us, by his fault, is possessed by the world. Like the ring, the IPhone imprisons us in the power it gives

Food Waste Persuasive Speech
PERSUASIVE Speech Outline
Š²Ā¦ŠƒIntroduction
Š²Ā¦ŠƒAttentionā€“getter: A study done by the World Food Programme shows over 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a
healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth. Another study done by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
shows roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year approximately 1.3 billion tonnes gets lost or wasted.
This adds up to about $680 billion in loss of food alone. There should not be this much food wasted in the world with so many hungry people we have.
Š²Ā¦ŠƒThesis: Food waste in the world needs to be put to a stop.
Š²Ā¦ŠƒPreview: I have decided to research food waste that exists in our world. First I will talk about the problem of food waste and how it affects
everyone. Second I will be talking about how the food waste is being done at an alarming rate. Lastley I will talk about solutions to this problem.

The solution is simple, and will be a win win situation for everyone, but it will also vary depending on if it is a person or place. First focusing on just
house holds, according to the article "15 easy ways to reduce food waste" by Mellisa Breyer, you should buy small days worth of food at a time, in
order to prevent food going bad. When eating out take home leftovers in trays and save them for when you get hungry. At home eat leftovers on a
regular night, and try to keep smaller portions so you know you will finish the food. Next are places such as amusement park, movie theaters, and
restaurants. At the end of the night these places toss any leftover/nonā€“sold food, mest up orders. Instead off tossing all the leftover/unsold food, take it
to a shelter where it is guarenteed to be eaten. If it is going to be thrown away, might as well let the less fortunate have it.Supporting campaigns such as

Global Warming Argumentative Essay
Global Warming: Myth or Fact? The Global Warming theory has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Citizens of the world are being
encouraged to be more environmentally conscious by others including politicians, celebrities, and world organizations. The problem with the theory
lies in the fact that it has become more and more controversial as it gains publicity and attention. The basic concept behind this theory is that the earth
was made with a balance of "greenhouse gasses". These gasses are naturally occurring within the atmosphere and they essentially make the planet
habitable by keeping it warm. When the world became more industrialized, the amount of carbon dioxide that was being emitted into the atmosphere

The more people habituating the planet, the more potential there is for emission of greenhouse gasses. In short, the basis of this argument other than
years of documented research and scientific discovery is what harm could we do by being more conservative in our use of energy and other entities
that produce more than their share of greenhouse gasses? The answer as it stands now is none. The harmful effects of ignoring this crisis are all but
proven fact. The problem that the proā€“ global warming theorists have created is that of social standing and little else. While there may be scientific
backing to support some of the theory, the media presents the problem with great sensationalism. Global warming and energy conservation has thus
become a trend and losses some of its validity through this. The scare tactics used by the media to "promote awareness" are just that, a linguistic ploy to
gain favor. "Awareness of this global threat reinforced public concern and environmental problems and thereby provided environmental activists,
scientists, and policy makers with new momentum in their efforts to promote environmental protection." (McCright, 2000) This statement draws line
to the potential benefits that would be received if the proā€“global warming theorists were to draw enough attention to the issue. Driven by social
empowerment and conviction to environmental protection, these activists misrepresent the actual threat and paint it as being much more

Persuasive Essay On Suicide
In today's society, suicide can be a multifaceted issue, sometimes an act of heroism, selfishness, love, or a brave choice. I am arguing against suicide
because it is not a solution to a problem, it should not even be included as an option. Suicide is simply defined as "the deliberate taking of one's own
life, usually the result of a psychiatric disorder, although sometimes deliberated in the face of lifeā€“threatening physical illness, significant interpersonal
stress, or when under the influence of one or more substances of abuse" (Piotrowski). This topic interests me because of the fact that the rates are
increasing year after year and it can happen to someone close to me at any moment. This topic should interest you too because someone close to you
can show warning signs, which can be subtle or more discernible. Also if you are reading this as a parent, you should know "suicide is the third leading
cause of death for those between the ages of ten and fourteen, and it is the second leading cause of death for those ages fifteen to thirtyā€“four" (Goff).
Yet the factors that play into a someone's decision is anything but simple. The most obvious and severe effect of suicide is the loss of a meaningful,
valuable human life. "In the United States in 2013, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41,149 individuals committed
suicide and approximately 494,169 received medical treatment for selfā€“inflicted injuries. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported an estimated
800,000 suicides worldwide in 2016, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among fifteenā€“ to twentyā€“nineā€“yearā€“olds worldwide. Women
attempt suicide more often than men, but men complete suicide more often than women because men tend to use more lethal means, such as a firearm"
(Piotrowski). With suicide rates on a continuous rise in America, society must ask what can be done to save lives.
The main argument against suicide is that it is selfish, which is true. By you killing yourself, it causes a lot of pain to those left behind, like your
family, loved ones, friends, etc. They tend to blame themselves for your death. Even if you feel like nobody in the whole world cares about you, you
are wrong. When you think

Persuasive Essay on Abortion
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The
definition of abortion is; "The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of
normal growth." These proā€“life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know
that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year
because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting proā€“life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be proā€“choice.
Proā€“choice...show more content...
The choice of her keeping the child would result in her getting kicked out of her home, she'd be finically unable to support the baby, and she would
lose her education. With abortion she would not have to deal with these issues, though she would have to deal with the emotional aspect of deciding to
terminate the pregnancy. Proā€“choice supports the idea she would learn from her mistake and that ultimately it was her choice to do what she wished
with her body. Even though these "Pro Life supporters" think giving up your child for adoption is a better choice than an abortion, but those
children would be forced to live in an unfit foster home till they age out of the system. After they turn 18 they are out on the streets what makes the
women who would rather just have an abortion have to think about when they know their child is in a foster home and probably no better off than
where they would be if she would have just kept it? You have to deal with the emotional circumstances after an abortion for a while but you have to
deal with not knowing what the child you gave up has to go through on a daily basis everyday of your life is a lot harder than the emotional toll of an
abortion Even though many people practice proā€“life because of their religion, it may be surprising to learn that catholic women are 29% more likely to
get an abortion than Protestant women, though they are as likely as all women to do

Environmental Pollution In The US Today
Earth, home to the beauty of blue skies and clear waters, and bearer of each delicate life form, from the moss floating atop rivers, to the lions that
prowl the mesa deserts; however, Earth is also home to the most destructive life form, humans. People reap the fruit of the Earth and bask in the beauty
of nature, yet for generations, the efforts to protect the environment have only declined. The pollution that is wrought upon the environment every day
is too often ignored for "more important" issues, such as poverty or crime; however, protecting the literal soil that people dwell on is just as vital as
patrolling the society in which they live. Environmental pollution is a growing issue in the U.S. today, caused primarily by the lack of public concern
or caution, harmful chemicals used by manufacturers and farmers, and lack of government enforcement or intervention. To begin with, the energy
wasted out of pure negligence while performing daily tasks and activities wreaks havoc on the environment, greatly contributing to this issue.
Fortunately, more often than not, excessive waste can easily be avoided altogether by being conscious of what is necessary, and what's just luxury.
However, the extra couple of seconds that it takes to flip off a light switch or turn down a faucet often proves to be too inconvenient of a task for
many individuals. By far, unnecessary use of electricity is the biggest energy waster among the general population. While one may believe they don't

The Empirical Evidence Of Behavior
Review of the Empirical Evidence of Behaviour
Transtheoretical Model
Transtheoretical Model (TTM) is a stageā€“based model that provides a conceptual basis that can be used to develop interventions to help people with
addiction issues, such as smoking, to change their unhealthy behaviour (Prochaska, DiClemente, & Norcross, 1992). According to Prochaska et al
(1992), the use of 'stage of membership,' as well as 'stage of change,' helps categorize the subject's level of readiness to make a successful behavioural
change.
In Spencer, Pagell, Hallion, & Adams (2002) qualitative analysis of all available research analyses of TTM, it was found that TTM's application to
tobacco cessation is strong and is continuously growing. It, however, was...show more content...
Special Populations. Spencer et al. (2002) compared special populations to the general community populations regarding tobacco use and how TTM and
its constructs apply. It was found that the following differences: gender, age, race, pregnancy, and income level stipulated varied results suggesting that
although TTM and its constructs applied to them and the general population, there must be interventions personalized to each segment of the special
population, as there were a few differences based on demographic variances.
Stageā€“Matched Interventions. Finally, Spencer et al. (2002) examined the evidences supporting the utilization of stageā€“matched smoking cessation
interventions vs. nonā€“stageā€“matched interventions vs. TTM training for health care providers. It was found that 16 out of 22 stageā€“matched
interventions support the idea that there is a cause and effect relationship between personalized/tailored interventions and positive outcomes. In terms
of nonā€“stageā€“matched interventions, 8 out of the 11 studies demonstrated positive progression to tobacco cessation drawing the conclusion that non
tailored interventions are also effective in getting the subject's closer to quit smoking. Although this sounds promising, the study noted that
nonā€“stageā€“matched interventions are not

Essay On Wellness Programs
There is a heightened focus on maintaining good health and the many benefits that come as a result. Increasingly, more companies are opting to
implement wellness programs to help support and facilitate their employees in achieving better health habits. Types of programs offered include
smoking cessation, weight and stress management, and access to onā€“site resources like health fairs, seminars, and counseling with registered dietitians.
Results of healthy employees also help the employer by reducing healthcare costs, improving work productivity, and boosting office morale (Mujtaba &

A randomized controlled study will be conducted to test the effectiveness of implementing a penalty system as motivation in a smoking cessation
wellness program initiative. This study will take place at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California. Participants (n=500) will be recruited through
email solicitation using a nonā€“probability sampling technique. Purposive sampling will allow for a specifically targeted group, in this case smokers,
to be solicited. Qualifications to meet the needs of this study will require smokers to have been smoking one cigarette or more per day for at least
one year or longer. Age 18 years and over are eligible to participate. While the sample size of this study is large, it is suggestive of only one
company in California and may not be generalizable across the United States. Of the 500 participants, two groups will be created, and participants
will be assigned by block randomization to reduce bias. One group will remain a control group while the other will receive a penalty at the end of the
year if they failed to quit smoking. The independent variables (IV) are penalty or no penalty for smoking cessation. The penalty used to encourage
behavior change will be an increase to their health insurance, which will take effect the subsequent year. The dependent categorical variables (DV)
measured will be continued smoking and smoking cessation. The study will run for one year, at which time participants will be asked to

Reflection Paper : Mapping My Life
I have not realized how much I and the environment are connected. When mapping my life, I find it refreshing and could pinpoint why I was stress.
On the map, I choose six systems that were meaningful to me. They are school, transportation, hobbies, friends, club, health. This year, I am trying to
manage how to juggle these things I list. When the day is ending, I am a zombie by the time I come home. However, I am having fun because I am more
active I ever been during school years. School is the number one priority for me. There is one goal I want to achieve, and that is to get my Ph.D. Now,
on the map, I consider school to be stressful and flow of energy. One of the reasons to be stressful is I am trying to manage all my class homework

I have no idea how I am going about and adding volunteer at the nursing home is going to be stressful. I still planning when to eat right before dinner
hits. My main thing is to exercise, and I need to get on that. Also, I need to get on about my hobbies. The activities I enjoy to deā€“stress. However, I
have trouble relaxing since most of my days are working or school. The only free time I get is at night. I only get an hour to deā€“stress then I go to bed
and wake up early. I know having free time can be hard, but I get energy from my hobbies. That is the reason I put on my ecomap. It is the way I
recharge myself. Now, the most stressful I will get is transportation. I have a unique black car just for my wheelchair. There are times the car wants
to be stubborn leaving me to use my manual chair. Whenever I have to do that, I would get frustrated because the powerchair is a source of
independence. Plus, the using the trolley can be a pain at times. I calculate carefully when to get on the bus and how long I can hang out before
getting back on the trolley. It is worse especially when I sit on a hot day. Anyways, the last thing on my ecomap is my family diagram. My family
background is unique. All of us are adopted except one of my sister, Morgan; even my cat is adopted. When I was looking at the map, I chuckled
because I forget we adopted her. The cat's name is

A Research Study On Anti Smoking Campaign
INTRODUCTION:
Antiā€“smoking campaigns aim to induce attitude changes that will cause a behavioural change of not smoking, by employing techniques that target the
central or peripheral route processing. The central route prompts reasoning and analysis of arguments, persuading the audience through the message's
content. The peripheral route uses visual cues to appeal to emotions. Each route stimulates differing depths of understanding about the consequences of
smoking, and thus, varying levels of commitment to not smoking. This investigation will focus on how effective these campaigns are in inducing
higher levels of understanding and commitment to not smoking. Subjective quantitative data will be collected via selfā€“reports. A Visual Analogue

The route with the highest mean score for understanding and commitment will be more effective in inducing persuasion.
RESULTS:
Graph 1 shows that antiā€“smoking campaigns targeting central route processing induced a better understanding of the consequences of smoking than
those targeting the peripheral route, as they achieved a higher mean understanding score on the V.A.S. Graph 2 shows that antiā€“smoking campaigns
stimulating the central route produced higher commitment to not smoking than those targeting the peripheral route, as they achieved a higher mean
score on the questionnaire.
DATA INTERPRETATION:
Graph 1 displays that campaigns targeting central route processing had the highest mean score of 88, and thus, produced a better understanding of the
consequences of smoking. An 11% difference existed between the meanscores of the two experimental groups, indicating that their understanding was
relatively similar.
Graph 2 suggests that campaigns targeting central route processing produced higher commitment to not smoking, as they had the highest mean score
of 40. A 29% difference existed between the mean scores of these two experimental groups, indicating that their commitment levels were relatively
different.
Campaigns targeting the central route may have produced better understanding and commitment levels as they provided

Persuasive Essay On Save Water
Water is something no one can live without. In fact, human bodies are about sixtyā€“five percent water. Therefore, water conservation is a project
everyone should be willing to participate in. Specifically, in the Logan, Utah area, water conservation is an important topic, as the citizens use water
every day. "In an interview with The Herald Journal, USU sociology professor Douglas Jacksonā€“Smith said the city's water concerns have the potential
to increase, based on Logan's anticipated population growth by 2050" (Peikes). There is a growing concern about the amount of water the city will
have or be able to produce for the growing population. Although it is important that each citizen is staying hydrated and being hygienic, people do
not need to use so much water in doing so. Many people have cut back on watering their lawns, or started to take shorter showers, but there are more
options to choose from and ways to conserve water. This problem is solvable, if only more people would participate and take steps to conserve water.
First, the citizens of Logan, Utah should act in conserving the water supply in Logan for now and for the future. The actions they can take are simple,
and come down to the basic rule "stop using so much/ wasting water". Each individual resident can take steps to conserve water within their homes.
That is usually the easy part. The hard part about conserving water is getting businesses and the city itself to conserve water. Businesses waste a

Speech On Bullying In School
Bullying in school"
A school is a place of education where children's teams and forms themselves into someone they wanted to be in the future. But that is not the only
luxury that school can give, they can also be a battlefield, a place of survival some may seem, where the famous and beautiful are honored and
respected while the poor little once are bullied. Bullying is a big problem now in our society and what's alarming is the breeding ground of this plague
is our school. But before we get into the problem let us first define what a bullying is, According to the new Webster's dictionary of the English
language, a bully is a " someone who enjoys to call names or oppressing others weaker than himself''. Which there are different factors that may affect
a kid's behavior it may also be caused by environmental, history and other related matters. And one of the main factors of this change by bullying, it
may depress someone thus making "his or her"selfā€“esteem degrades, a issues such as bullying, teens suicide, physical and sexual abuse.
Nowadays, we must not seem to notice effects such as bullying but some incidents must be strong as glasses, we can't just identify if it is already an
act of bullying or just another form of it. Bullying is any behavior that is received by one or more students against a victim or victims that causes
physical or psychological intimidation. Bullying behaviors can be classified as either directly such as teasing, threatening, hitting, or

Persuasive Speech On Cyber Bullying
Have you ever bullied someone before or are you a victim of being bullied? Well, bullying is described as an immoral and aggressive behaviour where
it has an impact on one person to another. This is caused by people assuming they are dominant, superior in age or position. The bully also brings that
unnatural anger on someone and tries to victimised them so that they can feel good about themselves. Bullying can occur in a range of places from
schools to public places, even at home. Now these days technology is also a problem because of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is becoming an
infamous territory to battle their victims as it is often used to humiliate them on social media. As a result, we can say that schools' bullies have
become a huge problem these days. The concept of a bully is that some students who lack in specific qualities in the eyes of the bully is a target for
them in order for them to become popular. To be honest, bullying is a bad sign which results in lowering victim's emotions and this may lead to
mental illnesses such as depression and suicidal attempts. Actually, bullying to be present in school should not be tolerated in every possible way
because it is violating a person's human rights. This speech talks about the causes and the consequences of bullying as well the opinions to persuade
you to be against bullying in schools and in general.
Bullying has the obscured need of an individual to feel like they have the power as compared to others in a social setting. When the bully carries an
ego at school, the victim of the bullying may suffer both physical and emotional abuse. Bullying can also extend to sexual and verbal abuse. In some
schools, a majority of the popular students tend to pick on the less popular students for the sake of fun and attention from other school mates. The
main structural causes of bullying are mostly psychosomatic problems. In most of the times, a bully can also get rid of their own problems by passing
it on to others person. In rare cases of young people, teenagers often release their anger out because of their violent backgrounds or negative influences
that they come across as they grew up in life. As an outcome, they end up exhibiting these feelings through

Mental Maps
My life can be divided into two segments. The first part I lived with my family and Mexico City, the second part started when I moved to Austin in
the start of college. The live that I lived in each of the sections has been different from the activities that I took part in, all the way to what kind of
location those activities occurred. In this paper I will explain the two mental maps that I created. For each map I will compare and contrast the
Landmarks, nodes, edges, paths, and edges in each of the sections of my life and why they are relevant to me. The first map that I drew is about, the
space I inhabited in the past, which is Mexico City. In this part of my life I resided in a very residential areaā€“ one that in the United States could...show

In the past I used to be more focused in religion and sports, since I used to think of the synagogue and JCC as important nodes. Currently the activities
I typically partake have become mostly studying, socializing and drinking, which can be perceived by the nodes I consider important, such as the SAC
and my fraternity. In the case of the landmarks, in both of the mental maps I have objects that catch my attention in my everyday routes as things I
distinguish in the landscape. Consequently, in both maps my paths are defined on the nodes of my life, which have led to these objects becoming
landmarks for me.
Meanwhile when it comes to considering how I got from point A to point B in each map it is very different. In Mexico City every single place I
traveled meant that I needed to drive or be driven around since distances are relatively long compared to Austin. This meant that the places that I
considered to be important for me are more scattered around my mental map. For Austin, most of my activities take part in a smaller region since the
mode of transportation I primarily use is walking, therefore the distances I cover are much shorter than in my past.
In general I can conclude that by comparing and contrasting both mental maps, I can more accurately understand how I have changed as a person, not
only because I live in a very different city,

Persuasive Essay On The Art Of Art
Art declares many things. It's a way for people to articulate their views, express their emotions, and communicate to the world in a way that gives
them creative release. This ability to exhibit one's views in a imaginative and safe manner is exceptionally important to society's growth, and to border
this freedom to articulate is detrimental. Art should not be hidden and concealed permanently from the public eye because some see it as vulgar due to
the fact that many people have varying definitions as to what is crossing the line. Only certain, obvious things can be noted as truly indecent.
Censorship is not an easy subject. As an artist, there is often a lot of tolerance for the obscene, from appreciation to detail on the human figure or
the unique renditions of animalistic interaction. However, the majority of the public might find the same things that the artists see as a unique
interpretation as vulgar. It is easy to see that such a standpoint must be taken into more consideration, as the point of indecency can differ greatly
for a conservative Christian compared to a liberal atheist. The two images of what each group considers unseemly would most likely range in their
obscenity, and so it would be difficult to put a line where one should be crossed. "If an image offends very many people, sooner or later someone
will invoke the law, and along with it judges, legislators, policymakers, and the police," quotes Melinda Hinkson in Australia's Bill Henson scandal:
notes on the new cultural attitude to images. Here we have a majority rule, where an image should only have action dealt upon it if enough people
want change. Such censorship is easy to determine when there are pieces depicting derogatory themes, such as child pornography or racial notions.
But there are multiple cases where there are two sides of the story, and it is not as simple.
A statue named Truth is Beauty by Marco Cochrane has recently been constructed in the city of San Leandro, here in the bay area. This statue depicts a
nude woman dancing, her body semiā€“geometric, and although you can not vividly see the all of the womans body parts, it is not difficult to know that
she is supposed to be depicted as naked. A completely naked figure,

Persuasive Essay On Sports
Competitive sports
Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think
it's not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However,
for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also,
they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.
One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. One example is
that "children who were involved in sports were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported more
positive feelings than those who didn't participate. (Merkal, Donna, Youth sport: positive and negative impact on young athletes, 201, May 31)."
If children hold an extreme love for the sport they play, most children use that sport as an escape. Playing sports blows off steam and helps people
relax. "Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical
Education and Research ,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998)." Playing sports can help bring families or other kids together to
build strong bonds. "It appears that US children are healthy and happy as they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels
of satisfaction if their children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to make friends?, 2009)." A pat on
the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep
playing which all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide being the second biggest fatality for
adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death situation.
Correspondingly, fitness is a huge plus side of competitive sports. Diabetes is affecting around 8.6% of America's population. "More than 29 million

Persuasive Essay On Drugs
It is a right minded idea to think that strict laws against possession and use of controlled substances would deter people from using drugs and make
for safer communities. The average civilian would probably think cops are cleaning up the streets when they see someone in handcuffs for owning
or using any type of illegal substance. But the only reason that person is considered a criminal is because of our laws, we don't know that they're
dangerous. Why do they deserve to be arrested and charged? Morally, they could be someone who wouldn't hurt a fly, but since they have an illegal
substance they are quickly judged and hauled away. There are pitfalls that come with these laws that aren't obvious to the general public, and there are
benefits that could come with tossing out our current consequences. Legalizing possession and use of controlled substances could make for a reduction
of our current drug epidemic, solve issues with overcrowded prisons, and help drug addicts to receive treatment. Current laws that criminalize
possession and use of controlled substances have proven to be ineffective when it comes to eliminating the drug epidemic. Our laws do not prevent
citizens from getting their hands on controlled substances; they only hand out consequences when a person is found in possession or while using said
substance. An immense amount of time and money has been dumped into the U.S war on drugs and antidrug campaigns for decades in an attempt to
significantly reduce the supply and demand of common controlled substances. However the attempts have backfired to an extent, Pierreā€“Arnaud
Chouvy, a specialist in drug research internationally affirms that "prohibition has created the world's most lucrative illicit market for some
psychoactive substances and encouraged their production" (Chouvy, 2012). So it is safe to say that our war on drugs has not only been ineffective,
but has actually pushed for a busy black market. How? People are not afraid to do some dirty work and take risks for the profit that comes from drug
trafficking. Not to mention with the increase of business came an increase of violence in the drug trade. In an article displaying the history of our war
on drugs, Aileen Teague discloses that

Persuasive Speech On Minecraft
The popular buildā€“andā€“survive video game Minecraft could very well be the most surprising tech success of this decade. Created in 2009 by
programmer Markus "Notch" Persson, expanded by a small team, and advertised mostly by word of mouth, it has more than 100 million users. To drive
home its success, Microsoft bought the game a few months ago for a staggering $2.5 billion.
I'm sure you've heard many kids, teens, and adults in your life talking about Minecraft. Here's why that might be a good thing, and how to keep it from
turning bad.
1. It builds creativity
I'm a huge fan of Lego. My son and I have spent hours building the model on the box and then taking it apart and making whatever else we wanted
by rearranging the parts. Minecraft gives kids the same creative freedom, but it's easier on your bank account. Plus, you'll never step on a loose piece
barefoot in the dark.
If you haven't played or seen it, Minecraft is a very blocky world, i.e. everything is built from blocks. The ground is made up of blocks, trees are
blocks, and even your character avatar is very blocky. You get progress in the game by scavenging or mining blocks of various materials such as
stone, wood, lava, etc. You use these as the basis for your creations, or combine them in "recipes" to create more advanced materials, tools and objects.
Some of the things Minecraft players have built are truly staggering: massive vehicles, intricate skyscrapers, working analog computers, and even the

Iphone Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Iphone Persuasive Essay I noticed the other night, by watching clients of Frog and British Library, this pub in the 13th arrondissement where I often think (see Le Point nŠ’Ā°2128) before going to dinner at the Lotus, at the corner of avenue of Ivry and of avenue of Choisy, in the heart of Chinatown, that the use we make of the iPhone is the same as that made by Gollum with the ring in The lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien, on 1892ā€“1973). We always have our iPhone on us, like Gollum and, later, Bilbo and Frodon. We continuously touch it, because we both want it and are afraid of losing it. The slightest doubt ā€“ a question up in air in an insignificant conversation, such as: how old is Sharon Stone? or: Is Grace Park from "Hawaii 5. 0" married? ā€“ is enough for five or six rings, I mean iPhones, to appear around the table. The iPhone stores all the memory of the world, so does the ring. As soon as we switch it on, society watches us just like Sauron watches, with his unique and vertical eye, the bearer of the ring. The iPhone conquered restaurants but also family dinners: every guest keeps his phone close to his plate. It was not possible to leave this magical object in our pocket any more, we need to leave it next to what we eat, what we drink and the people we love. The iPhone has settled among loving couples as...show more content... The iPhone is an informer glued to the butt of the Universe. The CIA, FSB and Mossad are at our service in this little notebook, which contains billions of notes. It is a gift and a toy, two things that an adult must be wary of. Because of it, our life is transformed, like that of the bearer of the ring, into a contradictory quest: our fascination for it and our desire to free ourselves from it. If each of us, thanks to the iPhone, possesses the world, it is because each of us, by his fault, is possessed by the world. Like the ring, the IPhone imprisons us in the power it gives Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Food Waste Persuasive Speech PERSUASIVE Speech Outline Š²Ā¦ŠƒIntroduction Š²Ā¦ŠƒAttentionā€“getter: A study done by the World Food Programme shows over 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That's about one in nine people on earth. Another study done by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations shows roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year approximately 1.3 billion tonnes gets lost or wasted. First I will talk about the problem of food waste and how it affects everyone. Second I will be talking about how the food waste is being done at an alarming rate. Lastley I will talk about solutions to this problem. Š²Ā¦ŠƒBody Š²Ā¦ŠƒProblem: Š²Ā¦ŠƒWhat is the problem? The problem is that there are...show more content... The solution is simple, and will be a win win situation for everyone, but it will also vary depending on if it is a person or place. First focusing on just house holds, according to the article "15 easy ways to reduce food waste" by Mellisa Breyer, you should buy small days worth of food at a time, in order to prevent food going bad. When eating out take home leftovers in trays and save them for when you get hungry. At home eat leftovers on a regular night, and try to keep smaller portions so you know you will finish the food. Next are places such as amusement park, movie theaters, and restaurants. At the end of the night these places toss any leftover/nonā€“sold food, mest up orders. Instead off tossing all the leftover/unsold food, take it to a shelter where it is guarenteed to be eaten. If it is going to be thrown away, might as well let the less fortunate have it.Supporting campaigns such as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay About Tourism In the purpose of relaxing yourself and broadening horizon, why not go to travel on vacation? Summer is always a busy tourist season for resorts like mountains or grand canyon in my hometown, Linyi, Shandong Province. And Grand Canyon of Yishui is a great magnet for tourists, so I can guarantee that it will let the person's mind and body dulcify. Here, you can enjoy various of karst cavesŠæјŠŠfeel native enthusiasmŠæјŠŠunderstand our culture, make friends with different people. Equally important is that it's a marvelous place to escape the heatā€“wave. Everything here is so striking and unforgettable, so it's really worth visiting. So hurry up to pack your luggage and start on your journey! The Grand Canyon is a tourism project, combining sightseeing, shopping with recreation, cultural display. Among them, cave drifting is a popular activity between people of all ages and both sexes. Furthermore, you don't need to be worried about being forced to shop here. And it covers an area of 32 square kilometers, with an overal length of 6,100 meters, becoming the first longest cave in north of the Yangtze River. This is a natural cave, so it is absolute, which needs be checked whether there is hidden danger or not. Furthermore, there lives around 1.13 million people, the elder among them, especially, have passion for listening to the Beijing Opera, Lv Opera, a traditional culture, which has been passed down from generation to generation. You can't imagine how hospitable the locals were. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Global Warming Argumentative Essay Global Warming: Myth or Fact? The Global Warming theory has become increasingly popular over the past few years. Citizens of the world are being encouraged to be more environmentally conscious by others including politicians, celebrities, and world organizations. The problem with the theory lies in the fact that it has become more and more controversial as it gains publicity and attention. The basic concept behind this theory is that the earth was made with a balance of "greenhouse gasses". These gasses are naturally occurring within the atmosphere and they essentially make the planet habitable by keeping it warm. When the world became more industrialized, the amount of carbon dioxide that was being emitted into the atmosphere ...show more content... The more people habituating the planet, the more potential there is for emission of greenhouse gasses. In short, the basis of this argument other than years of documented research and scientific discovery is what harm could we do by being more conservative in our use of energy and other entities that produce more than their share of greenhouse gasses? The answer as it stands now is none. The harmful effects of ignoring this crisis are all but proven fact. The problem that the proā€“ global warming theorists have created is that of social standing and little else. While there may be scientific backing to support some of the theory, the media presents the problem with great sensationalism. Global warming and energy conservation has thus become a trend and losses some of its validity through this. The scare tactics used by the media to "promote awareness" are just that, a linguistic ploy to gain favor. "Awareness of this global threat reinforced public concern and environmental problems and thereby provided environmental activists, scientists, and policy makers with new momentum in their efforts to promote environmental protection." (McCright, 2000) This statement draws line to the potential benefits that would be received if the proā€“global warming theorists were to draw enough attention to the issue. Driven by social empowerment and conviction to environmental protection, these activists misrepresent the actual threat and paint it as being much more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Suicide In today's society, suicide can be a multifaceted issue, sometimes an act of heroism, selfishness, love, or a brave choice. I am arguing against suicide because it is not a solution to a problem, it should not even be included as an option. Suicide is simply defined as "the deliberate taking of one's own life, usually the result of a psychiatric disorder, although sometimes deliberated in the face of lifeā€“threatening physical illness, significant interpersonal stress, or when under the influence of one or more substances of abuse" (Piotrowski). This topic interests me because of the fact that the rates are increasing year after year and it can happen to someone close to me at any moment. This topic should interest you too because someone close to you can show warning signs, which can be subtle or more discernible. Also if you are reading this as a parent, you should know "suicide is the third leading cause of death for those between the ages of ten and fourteen, and it is the second leading cause of death for those ages fifteen to thirtyā€“four" (Goff). Yet the factors that play into a someone's decision is anything but simple. The most obvious and severe effect of suicide is the loss of a meaningful, valuable human life. "In the United States in 2013, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41,149 individuals committed suicide and approximately 494,169 received medical treatment for selfā€“inflicted injuries. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported an estimated 800,000 suicides worldwide in 2016, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among fifteenā€“ to twentyā€“nineā€“yearā€“olds worldwide. Women attempt suicide more often than men, but men complete suicide more often than women because men tend to use more lethal means, such as a firearm" (Piotrowski). With suicide rates on a continuous rise in America, society must ask what can be done to save lives. The main argument against suicide is that it is selfish, which is true. By you killing yourself, it causes a lot of pain to those left behind, like your family, loved ones, friends, etc. They tend to blame themselves for your death. Even if you feel like nobody in the whole world cares about you, you are wrong. When you think Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay on Abortion Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; "The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth." These proā€“life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting proā€“life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be proā€“choice. Proā€“choice...show more content... The choice of her keeping the child would result in her getting kicked out of her home, she'd be finically unable to support the baby, and she would lose her education. With abortion she would not have to deal with these issues, though she would have to deal with the emotional aspect of deciding to terminate the pregnancy. Proā€“choice supports the idea she would learn from her mistake and that ultimately it was her choice to do what she wished with her body. Even though these "Pro Life supporters" think giving up your child for adoption is a better choice than an abortion, but those children would be forced to live in an unfit foster home till they age out of the system. After they turn 18 they are out on the streets what makes the women who would rather just have an abortion have to think about when they know their child is in a foster home and probably no better off than where they would be if she would have just kept it? You have to deal with the emotional circumstances after an abortion for a while but you have to deal with not knowing what the child you gave up has to go through on a daily basis everyday of your life is a lot harder than the emotional toll of an abortion Even though many people practice proā€“life because of their religion, it may be surprising to learn that catholic women are 29% more likely to get an abortion than Protestant women, though they are as likely as all women to do Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Environmental Pollution In The US Today Earth, home to the beauty of blue skies and clear waters, and bearer of each delicate life form, from the moss floating atop rivers, to the lions that prowl the mesa deserts; however, Earth is also home to the most destructive life form, humans. People reap the fruit of the Earth and bask in the beauty of nature, yet for generations, the efforts to protect the environment have only declined. The pollution that is wrought upon the environment every day is too often ignored for "more important" issues, such as poverty or crime; however, protecting the literal soil that people dwell on is just as vital as patrolling the society in which they live. Environmental pollution is a growing issue in the U.S. today, caused primarily by the lack of public concern or caution, harmful chemicals used by manufacturers and farmers, and lack of government enforcement or intervention. To begin with, the energy wasted out of pure negligence while performing daily tasks and activities wreaks havoc on the environment, greatly contributing to this issue. Fortunately, more often than not, excessive waste can easily be avoided altogether by being conscious of what is necessary, and what's just luxury. However, the extra couple of seconds that it takes to flip off a light switch or turn down a faucet often proves to be too inconvenient of a task for many individuals. The Empirical Evidence Of Behavior Review of the Empirical Evidence of Behaviour Transtheoretical Model Transtheoretical Model (TTM) is a stageā€“based model that provides a conceptual basis that can be used to develop interventions to help people with addiction issues, such as smoking, to change their unhealthy behaviour (Prochaska, DiClemente, & Norcross, 1992). According to Prochaska et al (1992), the use of 'stage of membership,' as well as 'stage of change,' helps categorize the subject's level of readiness to make a successful behavioural change. In Spencer, Pagell, Hallion, & Adams (2002) qualitative analysis of all available research analyses of TTM, it was found that TTM's application to tobacco cessation is strong and is continuously growing. It was found that the following differences: gender, age, race, pregnancy, and income level stipulated varied results suggesting that although TTM and its constructs applied to them and the general population, there must be interventions personalized to each segment of the special population, as there were a few differences based on demographic variances. Stageā€“Matched Interventions. Finally, Spencer et al. (2002) examined the evidences supporting the utilization of stageā€“matched smoking cessation interventions vs. nonā€“stageā€“matched interventions vs. TTM training for health care providers. It was found that 16 out of 22 stageā€“matched interventions support the idea that there is a cause and effect relationship between personalized/tailored interventions and positive outcomes. In terms of nonā€“stageā€“matched interventions, 8 out of the 11 studies demonstrated positive progression to tobacco cessation drawing the conclusion that non tailored interventions are also effective in getting the subject's closer to quit smoking. Although this sounds promising, the study noted that nonā€“stageā€“matched interventions are not Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Increasingly, more companies are opting to implement wellness programs to help support and facilitate their employees in achieving better health habits. Types of programs offered include smoking cessation, weight and stress management, and access to onā€“site resources like health fairs, seminars, and counseling with registered dietitians. A randomized controlled study will be conducted to test the effectiveness of implementing a penalty system as motivation in a smoking cessation wellness program initiative. This study will take place at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California. Participants (n=500) will be recruited through email solicitation using a nonā€“probability sampling technique. Purposive sampling will allow for a specifically targeted group, in this case smokers, to be solicited. Qualifications to meet the needs of this study will require smokers to have been smoking one cigarette or more per day for at least one year or longer. Age 18 years and over are eligible to participate. While the sample size of this study is large, it is suggestive of only one company in California and may not be generalizable across the United States. Of the 500 participants, two groups will be created, and participants will be assigned by block randomization to reduce bias. One group will remain a control group while the other will receive a penalty at the end of the year if they failed to quit smoking. The independent variables (IV) are penalty or no penalty for smoking cessation. The penalty used to encourage behavior change will be an increase to their health insurance, which will take effect the subsequent year. The dependent categorical variables (DV) measured will be continued smoking and smoking cessation. The study will run for one year, at which time participants will be asked to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Reflection Paper : Mapping My Life I have not realized how much I and the environment are connected. When mapping my life, I find it refreshing and could pinpoint why I was stress. On the map, I choose six systems that were meaningful to me. They are school, transportation, hobbies, friends, club, health. This year, I am trying to manage how to juggle these things I list. When the day is ending, I am a zombie by the time I come home. However, I am having fun because I am more active I ever been during school years. School is the number one priority for me. There is one goal I want to achieve, and that is to get my Ph.D. Now, on the map, I consider school to be stressful and flow of energy. However, I have trouble relaxing since most of my days are working or school. The only free time I get is at night. I only get an hour to deā€“stress then I go to bed and wake up early. I know having free time can be hard, but I get energy from my hobbies. That is the reason I put on my ecomap. It is the way I recharge myself. Now, the most stressful I will get is transportation. I have a unique black car just for my wheelchair. There are times the car wants to be stubborn leaving me to use my manual chair. Whenever I have to do that, I would get frustrated because the powerchair is a source of independence. Plus, the using the trolley can be a pain at times. I calculate carefully when to get on the bus and how long I can hang out before getting back on the trolley. It is worse especially when I sit on a hot day. Anyways, the last thing on my ecomap is my family diagram. My family background is unique. All of us are adopted except one of my sister, Morgan; even my cat is adopted. • 11. A Research Study On Anti Smoking Campaign INTRODUCTION: Antiā€“smoking campaigns aim to induce attitude changes that will cause a behavioural change of not smoking, by employing techniques that target the central or peripheral route processing. The central route prompts reasoning and analysis of arguments, persuading the audience through the message's content. The peripheral route uses visual cues to appeal to emotions. Each route stimulates differing depths of understanding about the consequences of smoking, and thus, varying levels of commitment to not smoking. This investigation will focus on how effective these campaigns are in inducing higher levels of understanding and commitment to not smoking. Subjective quantitative data will be collected via selfā€“reports. A Visual Analogue ...show more content... The route with the highest mean score for understanding and commitment will be more effective in inducing persuasion. RESULTS: Graph 1 shows that antiā€“smoking campaigns targeting central route processing induced a better understanding of the consequences of smoking than those targeting the peripheral route, as they achieved a higher mean understanding score on the V.A.S. Graph 2 shows that antiā€“smoking campaigns stimulating the central route produced higher commitment to not smoking than those targeting the peripheral route, as they achieved a higher mean score on the questionnaire. DATA INTERPRETATION: Graph 1 displays that campaigns targeting central route processing had the highest mean score of 88, and thus, produced a better understanding of the consequences of smoking. An 11% difference existed between the meanscores of the two experimental groups, indicating that their understanding was relatively similar. Graph 2 suggests that campaigns targeting central route processing produced higher commitment to not smoking, as they had the highest mean score of 40. A 29% difference existed between the mean scores of these two experimental groups, indicating that their commitment levels were relatively different. • 13. Persuasive Essay On Save Water Water is something no one can live without. In fact, human bodies are about sixtyā€“five percent water. Therefore, water conservation is a project everyone should be willing to participate in. Specifically, in the Logan, Utah area, water conservation is an important topic, as the citizens use water every day. "In an interview with The Herald Journal, USU sociology professor Douglas Jacksonā€“Smith said the city's water concerns have the potential to increase, based on Logan's anticipated population growth by 2050" (Peikes). There is a growing concern about the amount of water the city will have or be able to produce for the growing population. Although it is important that each citizen is staying hydrated and being hygienic, people do not need to use so much water in doing so. Many people have cut back on watering their lawns, or started to take shorter showers, but there are more options to choose from and ways to conserve water. This problem is solvable, if only more people would participate and take steps to conserve water. First, the citizens of Logan, Utah should act in conserving the water supply in Logan for now and for the future. The actions they can take are simple, and come down to the basic rule "stop using so much/ wasting water". Each individual resident can take steps to conserve water within their homes. That is usually the easy part. The hard part about conserving water is getting businesses and the city itself to conserve water. Businesses waste a substantial Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Mental Maps My life can be divided into two segments. The first part I lived with my family and Mexico City, the second part started when I moved to Austin in the start of college. The live that I lived in each of the sections has been different from the activities that I took part in, all the way to what kind of location those activities occurred. In this paper I will explain the two mental maps that I created. For each map I will compare and contrast the Landmarks, nodes, edges, paths, and edges in each of the sections of my life and why they are relevant to me. The first map that I drew is about, the space I inhabited in the past, which is Mexico City. In this part of my life I resided in a very residential areaā€“ one that in the United States could...show more content... In the past I used to be more focused in religion and sports, since I used to think of the synagogue and JCC as important nodes. Currently the activities I typically partake have become mostly studying, socializing and drinking, which can be perceived by the nodes I consider important, such as the SAC and my fraternity. In the case of the landmarks, in both of the mental maps I have objects that catch my attention in my everyday routes as things I distinguish in the landscape. Consequently, in both maps my paths are defined on the nodes of my life, which have led to these objects becoming landmarks for me. Meanwhile when it comes to considering how I got from point A to point B in each map it is very different. In Mexico City every single place I traveled meant that I needed to drive or be driven around since distances are relatively long compared to Austin. This meant that the places that I considered to be important for me are more scattered around my mental map. For Austin, most of my activities take part in a smaller region since the mode of transportation I primarily use is walking, therefore the distances I cover are much shorter than in my past. In general I can conclude that by comparing and contrasting both mental maps, I can more accurately understand how I have changed as a person, not only because I live in a very different city, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Persuasive Essay On The Art Of Art Art declares many things. It's a way for people to articulate their views, express their emotions, and communicate to the world in a way that gives them creative release. This ability to exhibit one's views in a imaginative and safe manner is exceptionally important to society's growth, and to border this freedom to articulate is detrimental. Art should not be hidden and concealed permanently from the public eye because some see it as vulgar due to the fact that many people have varying definitions as to what is crossing the line. Only certain, obvious things can be noted as truly indecent. Censorship is not an easy subject. As an artist, there is often a lot of tolerance for the obscene, from appreciation to detail on the human figure or the unique renditions of animalistic interaction. However, the majority of the public might find the same things that the artists see as a unique interpretation as vulgar. It is easy to see that such a standpoint must be taken into more consideration, as the point of indecency can differ greatly for a conservative Christian compared to a liberal atheist. The two images of what each group considers unseemly would most likely range in their obscenity, and so it would be difficult to put a line where one should be crossed. "If an image offends very many people, sooner or later someone will invoke the law, and along with it judges, legislators, policymakers, and the police," quotes Melinda Hinkson in Australia's Bill Henson scandal: notes on the new cultural attitude to images. Here we have a majority rule, where an image should only have action dealt upon it if enough people want change. This statue depicts a nude woman dancing, her body semiā€“geometric, and although you can not vividly see the all of the womans body parts, it is not difficult to know that she is supposed to be depicted as naked. • 18. Persuasive Essay On Sports Competitive sports Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it's not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future. One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. One example is that "children who were involved in sports were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported more positive feelings than those who didn't participate. (Merkal, Donna, Youth sport: positive and negative impact on young athletes, 201, May 31)." If children hold an extreme love for the sport they play, most children use that sport as an escape. Playing sports blows off steam and helps people relax. "Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research ,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998)." Playing sports can help bring families or other kids together to build strong bonds. "It appears that US children are healthy and happy as they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels of satisfaction if their children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to make friends?, 2009)." A pat on the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep playing which all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide being the second biggest fatality for adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death situation. Correspondingly, fitness is a huge plus side of competitive sports. Diabetes is affecting around 8.6% of America's population. "More than 29 million American Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Persuasive Essay On Drugs It is a right minded idea to think that strict laws against possession and use of controlled substances would deter people from using drugs and make for safer communities. The average civilian would probably think cops are cleaning up the streets when they see someone in handcuffs for owning or using any type of illegal substance. But the only reason that person is considered a criminal is because of our laws, we don't know that they're dangerous. Why do they deserve to be arrested and charged? Morally, they could be someone who wouldn't hurt a fly, but since they have an illegal substance they are quickly judged and hauled away. There are pitfalls that come with these laws that aren't obvious to the general public, and there are benefits that could come with tossing out our current consequences. Legalizing possession and use of controlled substances could make for a reduction of our current drug epidemic, solve issues with overcrowded prisons, and help drug addicts to receive treatment. Current laws that criminalize possession and use of controlled substances have proven to be ineffective when it comes to eliminating the drug epidemic. Our laws do not prevent citizens from getting their hands on controlled substances; they only hand out consequences when a person is found in possession or while using said substance. An immense amount of time and money has been dumped into the U.S war on drugs and antidrug campaigns for decades in an attempt to significantly reduce the supply and demand of common controlled substances. However the attempts have backfired to an extent, Pierreā€“Arnaud Chouvy, a specialist in drug research internationally affirms that "prohibition has created the world's most lucrative illicit market for some psychoactive substances and encouraged their production" (Chouvy, 2012). So it is safe to say that our war on drugs has not only been ineffective, but has actually pushed for a busy black market. How? People are not afraid to do some dirty work and take risks for the profit that comes from drug trafficking. Not to mention with the increase of business came an increase of violence in the drug trade. In an article displaying the history of our war on drugs, Aileen Teague discloses that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Persuasive Speech On Minecraft The popular buildā€“andā€“survive video game Minecraft could very well be the most surprising tech success of this decade. Created in 2009 by programmer Markus "Notch" Persson, expanded by a small team, and advertised mostly by word of mouth, it has more than 100 million users. To drive home its success, Microsoft bought the game a few months ago for a staggering $2.5 billion. I'm sure you've heard many kids, teens, and adults in your life talking about Minecraft. Here's why that might be a good thing, and how to keep it from turning bad. 1. It builds creativity I'm a huge fan of Lego. My son and I have spent hours building the model on the box and then taking it apart and making whatever else we wanted by rearranging the parts. Minecraft gives kids the same creative freedom, but it's easier on your bank account. Plus, you'll never step on a loose piece barefoot in the dark. If you haven't played or seen it, Minecraft is a very blocky world, i.e. everything is built from blocks. The ground is made up of blocks, trees are blocks, and even your character avatar is very blocky. You get progress in the game by scavenging or mining blocks of various materials such as stone, wood, lava, etc. You use these as the basis for your creations, or combine them in "recipes" to create more advanced materials, tools and objects. Some of the things Minecraft players have built are truly staggering: massive vehicles, intricate skyscrapers, working analog computers, and even the entire Get more content on HelpWriting.net
