Learning
Meaning
Any relatively permanent
change in behavior
Brought about by experience
Or practice
“Any kind f change in the
Way an organism behaves
Is learning”
Basic Principles of Learning
a. Learning is continuous
b. Learning is purposeful and must make sense to the learner
c. Learning involves as many senses as possible
d. Learning activities must be appropriate for the situation
Theoretical Process Of Learning
> Classical Conditioning Theory
> Operant Conditioning Theory
> Social Learning Theory
> Cognitive Learning Theory
Classical Conditioning Theory
- Ivan Pavlov’s classical conditioning theory
- Here Individuals would respond to some stimulus
that would not generally produce such a response
- Pavlov presented the dog with a piece of Meat, dog
salivated and when he with lead it didn’t salivate
- He gave meat with ringing the bell
- After a while dog would salivate merely by ringing
bell, even if food was not offered
- Meat-unconditioned stimulus
- The reaction that took place whenever
unconditioned stimulus occurred is called
unconditioned response
- Bell is artificial stimulus/ conditioned stimulus
Operant Conditioning Theory
* This theory was given by skinner in 1938.
* According to him the behaviour of human being or animal is an
active reflex( stimulus –Response)
* In life we do not wait for things to happen.
* Most of our responses cannot be attributed to known stimulus
Social Learning Theory
Social learning theory says that learning is
a cognitive process that takes place in a social
context and can occur purely through
observation or direct instruction, even in the
absence of motor reproduction or
direct reinforcement
Social Modeling Process
This modeling process includes the following
steps
Step1: Attention
Step2: Retention
Step3: Reproduction
Step4: Motivation
Cognitive Learning Theory
*Importance is laid on Perception, Problem Solving and
Insight
*Learning is not a result of Trial and Error Process,
instead discovering meaningful pattern that enables us to
solve problems
Learning

11% - Hear
3% - Smell
2% - Touch
1% - Taste
Retention
10% - Read
20% - Hear
30% - See
50% - See/Hear
70% - Discuss
80% - See/Hear/Do
Learning – relatively permanent change in behavior
