on another large flat stone to crush grains.

small villages. As the groups that lived together
became close-knit, they developed into tribes.
•This led to new occupations and specialization of
labor.
•Tribes had rich cultural traditions with their own
language, stories, songs, paintings etc.
•Land, forests and water belonged to entire tribe.
•New customs, such as burying the dead, rituals
and ceremonies emerged.

metals.
Copper was the first metal to be used by them.
People began to use both copper and stone tools.
This period is called the Chalcolithic Age.
It was the period of transition from stone Age to Metal
Age.
They slowly learnt the art of making bronze, an alloy of
copper and tin.
Improved tools led to development of agricultural skills.
Spinning and weaving were done by these communities.
