TITLE: Electronic Bicycle Lock
Introduction:
Objective: To design a Smart and Intelligent Electronic Bicycle Lock.
īˇ A bicycle lock is a physical security device used on a bicycle to prevent theft. It is
generally used to lock the cycle in parking areas, parks, societies etc.
īˇ These locks are attached between wheels of bicycle.
īˇ An important difficulty in preventing the theft of a bicycle is that the wheels are easily
detachable frame. As well locks can be easily broken.
īˇ There is need of a system is to get user notified about breaking of lock by intruder.
īˇ The Lock Comprises of loop between wheels. when the loop is connected the circuit
remains in switch off state. when a intruder tries to brake a lock the circuit triggers a siren
so that user can be notified.

Existing System:
īˇ Burglar alarm system is an important part of home security systems. This burglar
alarm project is based on PIR sensor, UM3561 and Speaker. PIR sensor used to detect
body motion and UM3561 & speaker to produce Police siren after any movement
detection.
īˇ PIR sensor is used here to detect the Human body movement, whenever there is any body
movement, the voltage at output pin changes. Basically, it detects the Change in Heat,
and produce output whenever such detection occurs. You can learn more about PIR
sensor in this PIR sensor circuit, there are some useful features in PIR sensor like how to
change the distance range, how to set Alarm duration etc.
īˇ UM3561 is a CMOS LSI IC which can generate four types of sound: Police Siren,
Ambulance siren, Fire brigade siren and machine gun sound. It is generally used in
alarms and toys. It is an 8 pin IC, and only require a external resistor to work. It has
inbuilt oscillators and circuitry to produce the sounds. UM3561 works in the range of 3-5
volts, voltage higher than 5V can damage the IC, so if we are using it with other circuit or
using a high voltage source, a Zener diode must be connected, to protect the IC. The
output generated by the IC is not sufficient to drive an 8ohm small speaker, so to amplify
the output of the IC, a transistor must be used at the output (PIN 3).
īˇ We can play four sounds by using its 2 sound Effect selection Pins (SEL 1 and SEL 2),
like here in our circuit we kept SEL 1 and SEL 2 open, to produce the Police Siren sound.
Below is the table for 4 Playing modes, you can produce whatever sound you want.
īˇ Zener Diode is just like the other diodes, with only one difference. All the diodes allow
flow of current in only one direction (forward), but Zener diode can allow current in
reverse direction if the voltage goes beyond a certain limit. This voltage is
called Breakdown Voltage or Zener Knee voltage. So, this property of Zener diode
protects the UM3561 IC by preventing higher voltage supply to it.

Explanation for Working System:
īˇ IC UM 3561 is ROM IC which is capable of generating Multi-siren tones.
īˇ Itâs also called as siren producing IC.
īˇ We are Using Police Siren Configuration of Siren IC. So, our selection 1 pin is not
connected anything as well as selection 2 pin also is not connected anything.
īˇ The Operating voltage of IC UM 3561 is from 2V to 5V only. Supply voltage Min.
Operating current Min â -180 uA
īˇ After excess application of voltage there are chances of damaging.
īˇ BD 139 Transistor has two applications in circuit. Itâs used as amplifier to amplify the
weak simple and also works as switch for triggering alarm system.
īˇ Pin 7 Oscillator 1 and Pin 8 Oscillator 2 are internal Oscillators of circuit their frequency
can be set with normal resistor or variable resistor.
īˇ When the base and emitter are shorted or connected to each other, the Transistor works in
off state such that in cutoff region. The alarm remains in triggering position. It works as
open switch.
īˇ As soon as base and emitter are disconnected the transistors starts working as closed
switch and works as amplifier in active state.
īˇ A wired loop can be created across base and emitter to develop a secured lock system.
when an intruder break that loop the siren starts producing its police siren sound and user
gets notified by it.

Conclusion of Project:
Conclusion:
īˇ It is cost-effective anti-theft system, which can be expected to
īˇ drastically reduce the automobile thefts, are entirely feasible as
īˇ factory installed devices.
īˇ Also, a wide range of theft methods have been used, the most
īˇ prevalent current methods include the use of a door lock
īˇ mechanism. The project âElectronic Bicycle Lockâ system has
īˇ successfully designed and tested. Integrating features of all
īˇ hardware components used have developed it.
īˇ Other this we have learnt to use siren IC and we also learnt to operate transistor operation
in various stages as an amplifier and switch in same circuit.
Future Scopes:
īˇ Vehicle intruder alarms
īˇ Mechanical and Electronic immobilizer
īˇ Vehicle tracking
īˇ Burglar alarm system
īˇ Home and Bank security systems
