project overview
the scope* of this proposal is the revision of the www.atelier-a.it website, with a
focus on page loading times, user experience and functionality, and administrative
maintenance. Website design and corporate branding, whilst taken into consideration,
are a secondary priority for the purposes of this document.
Review of the site, and discussions with the proponents of the domain, have led to the
following identified objective*:
“Deliver a revised website that reduces page loading time, is free from technical
errors that cause downtime, and promotes usability through improved
functionality which is consistent with the brand image.
The site should be an online showcase of the atelier-a products, and facilitate
user interaction via downloads and live contact forms that enable real-time data
capture and response.
To further enhance the user experience, the proponent must have easy-to-use
content management tools at their disposal to access and update the online
image database and web copy based on the level of clearance granted.”
The recommended solution* outlined in the following proposal addresses this
need by focusing on 3 major areas:

site structure* – a well-organized site makes it easier for users to access the
information they are after. The layout should also focus on directing visitors to where
you want them to be, and funneling them in that direction through link density and
visibility.
As an online catalog, the atelier-a.it site should aim to lead users to the product or
collection gallery, catalog download, or contact us pages. This can be achieved
through the following structural revisions:
WEB CONTENT – organized into groups of related content for easier understanding,
navigation & to minimize links. Use following major categories:
I. the company – everything related to what the business is and does
II. the furniture – all pages showcasing the designs
III. the experience – interactive content
PAGE TITLES – clear labeling and branding of the webpage title tab provides
information regarding the location of the page in the site
SITEMAP – a presentation of new structure, showing categories and 3-tier format:

user functionality* – for the site to be functional and user friendly, steps must be
taken to ensure certain characteristics:
» GOAL: Smooth and fast transition between pages
SOLUTION: Have identified large amounts of unnecessary web code being
used on every page, which is causing a significant time lag while loading. An
audit of the web code, and the subsequent removal of these offending
portions, combined with image size optimization tools, will see a vast
improvement in this functionality
» GOAL: Compatible with major mobile devices
SOLUTION: Design mobile version of site, and use recognition software to
automatically display when page is viewed via iPhone or Blackberry
» GOAL: Display gallery images quickly and attractively
SOLUTION: Current site uses two gallery display methods, and takes twice as
long to load. Eliminating one of these image viewers, and with the help of
image optimization tools, the furniture images will display much faster
» GOAL: Provide interactive forms for feedback, download and sign up
SOLUTION: Pages and forms are either unavailable or not functioning on the
live site right now. Rather than use existing forms, would create new pages
and variations, for users to get in touch with site proponent, download
information, or subscribe
» GOAL: Simpler navigation between pages
SOLUTION: Adjust sidebar links depending on the page category and
location as depicted in new sitemap
» GOAL: Page layout designed to highlight navigation links
SOLUTION: Adjust page designs to incorporate new structure, and
incorporate different types of links, sub-links and image links to draw user’s
attention to the “goal” pages of the site (see page mock-ups below)

achieve the project goals identified in this proposal:

images and content on the website via a user-friendly interface in real time
» TOOL: Image database with stock details
FEATURES: Varying access levels based on user permissions. Ability to
allocate product code to images and store product data
» TOOL: Lead data capture for contact forms
FEATURES: Easy customisation of live forms on website, auto-response e-mail
feature, and ability to store and extract lead data

proposed solution, the website revision will also include the following value-added

timeline
project phases* – during the implementation of the proposed website revision, care
must be taken to avoid any adverse effects to the existing website. By breaking the
project into phases and identifying pieces that can be replaced without breaking the
machine is a vital step if the project is to succeed. The planned phases to successfully
complete the revision of www.atelier-a.it are:
1. FIX CURRENT SITE: make required adjustments for site to run during revision
a. repair “Page Not Found” error appearing on current site
b. design and upload favicon image
2. UPGRADE GALLERIES: revise all gallery pages – collections and products
a. Image stocktake
b. Apply image optimizer to reduce image size
c. Revise gallery viewer functionality
d. Implement new page templates
3. CONTACT FORM REVISION: get contact forms up and running
a. Create required form variations for “tell me more”, “contact us” and
“website registration”
b. Create required auto-responders and email notifications and apply to
relevant form
c. Design new page templates
d. Test pages and lead capture
e. Replace existing contact forms
4. APPLY NEW TEMPLATES: re-launch content in new format
a. Collate content from existing pages, and any new content required
b. Create new page templates with audited code and test

Website design and corporate branding, whilst taken into consideration, are a secondary priority for the purposes of this document. Review of the site, and discussions with the proponents of the domain, have led to the following identified objective*: “Deliver a revised website that reduces page loading time, is free from technical errors that cause downtime, and promotes usability through improved functionality which is consistent with the brand image. The site should be an online showcase of the atelier-a products, and facilitate user interaction via downloads and live contact forms that enable real-time data capture and response. To further enhance the user experience, the proponent must have easy-to-use content management tools at their disposal to access and update the online image database and web copy based on the level of clearance granted.” The recommended solution* outlined in the following proposal addresses this need by focusing on 3 major areas: 1. This can be achieved through the following structural revisions: WEB CONTENT – organized into groups of related content for easier understanding, navigation & to minimize links.
