2. Since opening in 1993 Mainland Hard Chrome & Hydraulics
Ltd. has been building a reputation for delivering on it’s
promises. We have consistently delivered the Quality,
Service and Value that the most demanding accounts in our
industry require. Companies like Rolls Royce, Finning,
BC Hydro, Highland Valley Copper and CP Rail are just a

Demand has recently forced us to increase our capacity
again through expanded facilities, more equipment and
staff. These improvements are just another way we are
working to become your best supplier.

3. Mainland's 4000 square foot hydraulic assembly shop is
completely separated by doors from the machine, plating,
welding and grinding shops. This helps ensure the clean
environment so critical to hydraulic component assembly.

4. Cylinders are steam cleaned before disassembly.

5. This strip / test bench was designed and built in house
specifically with large multi stage cylinders in mind. It has a 150
ton straightening press built in as well as a 60,000 ft lb torque
wrench.

6. All cylinder components are
measured for fit and finish
and recorded on the
inspection report.

7. At 40’ fully extended Mainland's large strip / test bench
handles this 500” truck dump cylinder quickly and
efficiently.

8. After a full inspection, a
copy of the report is
attached to the
customer’s file and
another copy travels with
parts through the
machine and plating
shops as required until
completion.

9. Specialized equipment
is developed for
dismantling stubborn
assemblies.

10. All rods are checked for
straightness and
documented as part of
the comprehensive
inspection report.

11. If straightening is required it
is done quickly and efficiently
on one of the strip / test
bench mounted straightening
presses. Capacity on this one
is 150 tons and 20’ between
“V” blocks.

12. New eye bearing is installed with the 250 ton press.

13. Honing renews the internal surface finish critical to piston seal
life. In house honing capacity is 15” diameter x 192” long.

14. Mainland has the experience, expertise and equipment to
handle the largest mining equipment. This is a 260 ton haul
truck hoist cylinder coming apart.

15. The last segment of the rebuild is a comprehensive hydrostatic
test at full operating pressure. Cylinders can be set to
automatically stroke for extended periods at pressures up to
6000 PSI and flows up to 50 gallons per minute.

16. Cylinder rods are finish ground to final size after chroming.
This allows Mainland to hold tolerances that are not possible
by finish polishing alone. Tight tolerances are critical to
extending the life of your hydraulic cylinder.

17. Custom designed cylinders as well as replacement parts for
repaired units are fabricated in Mainland’s large capacity
machine shop.

18. The large hollow spindle lathe has a capacity of 12” through the
spindle, 40” swing, and 52” swing in the gap. The bed is 120”
between centers.

19. Cat 793 hoist barrel eye is resized.

20. A cylinder end cap is welded on to a new barrel at the welding
station.

21. Sawmill bed plate being pre-ground before chroming on the
surface grinder. This large capacity grinder can accommodate a
cube 80” long 30” wide and 30” high.

22. A small piston rod is finish ground on the 60” cylindrical grinder.

23. This L-1850 LeTourneau lift
rod has been re-chromed in
one of Mainland’s two in-
ground chrome tanks.

Mainland takes
environmental
stewardship very
seriously. The
closed loop
plating system
includes this state
of the art zero
emission fume
scrubber.

25. Thousands of industrial parts can be brought back to as new
condition by chroming & grinding. In the case of worn seal
areas the chrome is often harder than the parent material.
This results in longer service life than original.

26. These precision plywood feed rolls are finish ground after a .
005” chrome deposit.

27. This vacuum pump rotor has been reclaimed by chroming
and grinding it’s worn bearing journals back to original
specifications.

28. This screw compressor drive train had the worn gear I.D.’s
finish ground round and true and then the shaft was chromed
and ground to achieve the original factory fit.

29. Feel free to call to discuss custom cylinder designs or

prematurely* due to faulty workmanship or materials, we
will repair it immediately at no cost to you including paying
reasonable costs to remove and re-install the faulty part.
*Minimum one year or the OEM’s original warranty terms whichever is greater.
