How does my media product represent particular social groups
Social groups
1.
2. My magazine is representing the
emergent service workers social
group…
People in this social
group "live for
today"
New, young, urban
group
They are a social
group that do not
have much money
They are very social
and cultural.
3. I have used a 16 year old girl in my
feature article photograph
represents the emergent service
workers because it reflects on the
‘young’ aspect of the social group.
I decided to have a female so I
could use make-up and choose
clothes that would represent the
‘new’ and ‘urban’ parts of the
social group. The pose and
positioning she is in relates to the
emergent service workers social
group quote of ‘live for today.’
I have chosen the
colour scheme of
white, a pink/red
colour and black/grey
because black, white
and red are
conventional colours
for a magazine so I
used this however
adapted it to suit the
social group of young,
new and urban.
I have chosen the magazine name to be mortal as it can be
interpreted in different ways. It relates to emergent service
workers as they are social, young and urban suggesting they
like to go out to parties, which is what the word mortal could
represent.
4. The dress she is wearing represents the
social group of emergent service
workers as it is a quirky and ‘urban’
dress, which is how this social group is
described. They do not have much
money so she is not dressed in lots of
expensive jewellery and clothes. Also,
the positioning that she is in shows she
is young, social and cultural and shows
someone who ‘lives for today’,
representing emergent service workers.
The pull-quotes I have chosen of ‘There is nothing I would
rather be doing’ and ‘the day the last kiss show happens,
I’ll be a sad girl’ represents the social group of emergent
service workers as it shows she loves doing shows and
concerts which shows all the features: new, young, urban,
social and cultural.
5. All of my pictures on my contents page
consist of people who are young. This
represents the social group of emergent
service workers as they look young, new and
urban. They’re clothing again is not really
expensive as they do not have lots of
designer clothes and jewellery which could
represent the social group, however you can
see how they have some money due to the
props such as a guitar and headphones.
The quotes put in the contents such as ‘Its nothing
like anyone’s heard before’ and ‘I’m having the
best time of my life’ relate to the quote ‘live for
today’ which represents emergent service
workers.
