3. WHAT IS DEFORESTATION?
- PERMANENT DESTRUCTION OF FORESTS IN ORDER
TO MAKE THE LAND AVAILABLE FOR OTHER USES.
- CLEARING, DESTRUCTING OR OTHERWISE
REMOVAL OF TREES THROUGH DELIBERATE,
NATURAL AND ACCIDENTAL MEANS.
4. - According to The Natural
Conservancy in 2019, Logging alone
(much of it illegal) accounts for the
loss of more than 32 million acres of
our planet's natural forests every
year.
6. Presentations are
communication tools that
can be demonstrations,
lectures, speeches, reports,
and more. Most of the time,
they’re presented before an
audience. They have a
variety of purposes, making
them powerful tools.
CAUSES
Trees are chopped
for supplies for
making of different
products such as
paper, matchsticks,
furniture, charcoal,
firewood, etc.
LOGGING
Trees are chopped
to make roads and
more land for
housing, buildings
and settlements.
URBANIZATION
One of the major
factors affecting
deforestation.
Caused by
overgrowing
demands for food
products.
AGRICULTURAL
ACTIVITIES
7. Presentations are
communication tools that
can be demonstrations,
lectures, speeches, reports,
and more. Most of the time,
they’re presented before an
audience. They have a
variety of purposes, making
them powerful tools.
CAUSES
Roads and
highways are
built to make
way for trucks
and other
equipment
needed.
MINING
Hundred trees are
lost each year due
to forest fires. This
happens due to
extreme warm
summers and
milder winters.
FOREST FIRES
8. Presentations are
communication tools that
can be demonstrations,
lectures, speeches, reports,
and more. Most of the time,
they’re presented before an
audience. They have a
variety of purposes, making
them powerful tools.
EFFECTS
Deforestation can
lead to imbalance
in the atmospheric
temperature further
making conditions
for ecology
difficult.
CLIMATE
IMBALANCE
With constant
deforestation, the
ratio of green
house ages has
increased.
INCREASE IN
GLOBAL
WARMING
The shade of trees
maintains the soil's
moisture.
With the clearance
of tree cover, the
soil is directly
exposed to the sun
making it dry.
SOIL EROSION
9. EFFECTS
When trees are cut
down, the flow of
water is disrupted
and leads to floods
in some areas and
droughts in order
parts.
FLOODS
Various species
are lost. They lose
their habitats and
forced to move to
new location.
Some of them are
even pushed to
extinction.
WILDLIFE
EXTINCTION
11. FLOODING
The damage has been taking its toll in
the country since the early 90's. In
November 1991, Ormoc Province wa
suddenly flooded and 8,000 were
killed.
Today, a little rain causes flooding in major
citie and in ssome areas in the province.
12. FOREST LOSS
From 2002-2010, the primary loss in
the Philippines waas 6,504 hectares.
Since 2010, 57% of the Philippines' forests
are bald and were already turned into
grasslands.
13. DISPLACEMENT
OF INDIGENOUS
GROUPS
These minorities reside in uplands and
forests and are bounded by their
culture and tradition in that area.
But when multinational companies take
over, they are forced to leave the areas they
preserve to make ways for villages, mining
operations and agricultural lands.
14. LANDSLIDES
According to the recent reports of
NDRRMC, about 252,107 families have
lost their home because of landslides.
Additionally there are about 1.355 million
people hav been affected.
15. EXTINCTION OF
SPECIES
In 2010, IUCN and Birdlife International
listed Philippine Eagles as critically in
danger.
It is estimated about only 600 eagles are
left in the wild at the year 2015.
17. Ending deforestation is our best chance to
conserve wildlife and defend the rights of
forest communities. On top of that, it’s one
of the quickest and most cost effective
ways to curb global warming. That’s why
we’re campaigning for a deforestation-
free future.
- Green Peace, 2015
18. REPLANTING
Also known as Reforestation. This is
the process of restoration or
replanting of forests that have been
reduced by fire or felling. It requires
an ongoing process and should not
be viewed as one time thing.
19. GREEN
BUSINESS
This is concerned with re-use and
recycling. It focuses on re-using
items, reducing artificial items and
recycling more items, since papers,
plastics and wood products are
linked to deforestation of forests,
20. LAW and
REGULATION
Efforts to stop human activities can be
complemented by laws and regulation
at governmental and organizational
levels. Laws on timber, wood fuel,
farming and land use among other
forest resources must be advanced and
enforced to limit deforestation.
21. EDUCATIVE
CAMPAIGNS
Initiating awareness makes it easy for
people to detect causes, effects and ways
of counteracting deforestation. Making
conscious efforts to share information
with people is an appropriate measure of
standing up in unison to combat the
clearing of forests.
23. AS STUDENTS, WE WILL RAISE AWARENESS TO OTHERS,
SPECIFICALLY TO GRADE 12 HUMSS STUDENTS OF GENERAL DE
JESUS COLLEGE BY SPREADING BROCHURES ABOUT
DEFORESTATION. WHICH INCLUDES THE SIMPLEST WAY OF A
STUDENT ON MINIMIZING THE EFFECTS OF DEFORESTATION,
WHICH IS BY REUSING, RECYCLING AND USING OUR SCHOOL
SUPPLIES PROPERLY.
24. PENCILS ARE MADE FROM CEDAR WOODS AND PAPERS ARE
MADE FROM WOOD PULP WHICH COMES FROM SOFT TREES
SUCH AS SPRUCE, PINE, FIR, LARCH AND HEMLOCK, AND
HARDWOODS SUCH AS EUCALYPTUS, POPULAR, ASPEN AND
BIRCH.
25. SINCE THESE ARE THINGS WE USE FREQUENTLY AT SCHOOL.
MISUSING THEM WOULD ONLY GIVE MANUFACTURERS MORE
REASON TO CUT TREES. THEREFORE, STUDENTS MUST REUSE
AND RECYCLE AVAILABLE ITEMS AND AVOID WASTING THEM.
PAPERS CAN BE USED AGAIN, INSTEAD OF THROWING IT , IT
CAN BE USED ON PROJECTS. ALSO THERE ARE LOTS OF
COMPANIES WHO RECYCLE PAPERS.
