LEARNING INSIGHTS: TOPIC 1
This learning insight seeks to analyze each student's attention, knowledge, and
views on the particular topic under discussion. It’s my first time to attend virtual class
and this experience made me feel that pandemic is not a barrier in order for us to learn
more.
During our first day, our dear Doc Unico discussed about the introduction of the
Production and Operation Management. This specifically tackles about the definition
of operational management and its role in the business or an organization. The
operations, finance, accounting, buying, and administrative divisions will all be
affected by the team's decisions. The importance that an organization places on its
strategic and operational goals is one of the factors that contribute to its success.
This topic has been good and more excited to learn with for me because I can
relate this on my present work. I’ve been working in the city government for almost six
years and been handling the administrative and operational function in our office-
PESO Cabuyao. Designated as the officer-in-charge in terms of administrative, I play
a key role in coordinating available resources within the organization such as
budgeting, handling procurement, making project proposals, and keeping track
personnel and clients’ concern. In order to do so, I have to established a harmonious
relationship with my colleagues. I have to understand and addressed their concern
well. It’s my responsibility also to ensure that the core and special programs of our
office is being delivered timely and efficient. We are lucky enough that even we are in
the government, our office has its own budget and finances. It’s not hard for us to
propose projects, programs, and activities that we may conduct for our constituents.
As our discussion goes by, I’ve learned that proper management of the office’s
operation was important in order for the improvement and advancement of the
organization. It has been discussed that in operation management, resources such as
people, material, and money is more important in order for the product and/or services
be delivered well. In PESO Cabuyao, our mandate is to carry out full end equal
employment opportunities for all, and strengthen the existing employment facilitation

service machinery particularly in the local level. This is why we carry special initiatives
such as job fairs, recruitment activities, company accreditation, cash for work
programs, emergency employment, etc. These activities helped our office to become
more progressive and effective. What made these activities become more effective
are the personnel behind it. In our office, it is our protocol that in every activity
everyone must be busy, we do have this so called “terms of reference” or the person-
in-charge which is responsible in handling the program in terms of logistics,
advertisement, and external control. Right after the program, clients are responsible
to fill-out feedback form in order for them to evaluate the said activity and this
evaluation will be the basis of our office on what’s going to improve on the next activity.
Also, part of the operation and production management in our office is when all
personnel are required to attend capability enhancement and development trainings
that will enhance their skills and knowledge, this training will be the basis also for the
individual performance report per semester.
To end this insight, I realize that operations management is one of the most
important tasks of a company, and that it is linked to other important functions like
marketing, human resources management, and finance. As a result, operation
management is important in the business sector because it assists us in identifying
numerous business trends that are emerging in today's organization activities. I'm
grateful to my classmates who expressed their perspectives on operations
management in their companies. Another thing I learned was that private and public
sector operations are handled differently, but we all have one aim in mind: the success
and effective delivery of our products and services.
