5. A STORY OF MANNY VILLAR :
FROM RAGS-TO-RICHES
Manny Villar comes from
humble origins. He was born in
Tondo, Manila on December 13,
1949. Due to poverty, Manny had to
work at an early age. They barely
ate 3 times a day. It was so easy
for young Manny to stop going to
school given his circumstances, but
he chose to continue studying and
working at the same time.

6. Young Manny knew that the key to success is
education. Thus, though he would feel very
tired after work, he studied very well. His
patience, hard work, and dedication helped him
graduate with honors and gained him entrance
to the prestigious University of the Philippines.

7. He earned his Bachelor’s
and Master’s degrees in
Business Administration
at UP as a scholar.
He worked as an
accountant and financial
analyst in prominent
corporations for some
time until he decided to venture into his own
business.

8. Manny explored the home-building
business. He fueled his business with
ambition, fortitude, and initial capital of
only ₱10, 000.00. Manny nurtured his
business, which
is now known
as Camella
Homes and
Communities,
Inc. the largest
home-building company in the country.

9. Today he is considered as one of
the richest businessmen in the
Philippines.

10. Fortitude is a person’s strength of mind
to remain brave in the face of pain, great
harm, or danger. It is the strong will to
remain steady despite seemingly impossible
challenges.
