Assignment title 10.2 Produce a CAD drawing using orthographic projection methods
The purpose of this assignment is to:
a) Be able to produce isometric and orthographic CAD drawings
b) Be able to store and retrieve engineering drawings for printing
Scenario
You are working in the CAD office of Enviroplay, who supply toys for young children and make
them using sustainable materials. The development team have asked you to produce the
engineering drawings of a toy that is currently being considered to add to their range. Sketches of
the components have been supplied to you and are shown below.
The current design thoughts from the development team are as per the drawing below:
• The train is to be made from sustainably sourced timber
• The wheels are attached by drilling a 4.5mm dia hole through the base
and a stopped hole 5mm deep, 4mm dia on each wheel to accommodate a
4mm dia dowel, 65mm long.
Include dimensions, notes, etc., as necessary for the product modelling team to
create a prototype.
Task 1
Produce an isometric drawing of the toy train using the CAD software available, from the
information supplied to current British Standards guidance (e.g. BS8888, BS3939, and BS2917).
WHEELS 35mm DIA
CAB, BASE & WHEELS
10mm THICK
THROUGHOUT
FUNNEL 20 LONG
10mm DIA
ENGINE SHOULD FIT INTO A BOX
MEASURING 120 X 82.5 X 70mm
3. Hidden detail need not be shown.
Note that Enviroplay use the layout for a standard engineering drawing setup which you may well
have saved previously as a template when carrying out assignment (10.1).
Drawing should be numbered ENVIROPLAY DRG0005
This provides evidence for P3
Task 2
a) Produce orthographic detail drawings of the individual components of the toy train (boiler and
funnel, base, wheels & axles) using the CAD software available, to current British Standards
guidance (e.g. BS8888, BS3939, and BS2917).
Hidden detail should be shown.
Use the layout for a standard Enviroplay engineering drawing setup, saved previously as a
template when carrying out assignment (10.1). Drawings should be numbered ENVIROPLAY
DRG0001-DRG0003
This provides evidence for P2
b) Produce an orthographic assembly drawing containing three views of the toy train using the
CAD software available, to current British Standards guidance (e.g. BS8888, BS3939, and
BS2917).
Hidden detail should be shown.
Use the layout for a standard Enviroplay engineering drawing setup, saved previously. The
drawing should be numbered ENVIROPLAY DRG0004 and parts detailed by DRG0001-
DRG0003 are required to be indicated on the drawing.
This provides part of your evidence for P8
