“DepEd Order No. 31, s. 2020 or the Interim Guidelines for Assessment and Grading in light
of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan”.
I. Introduction
The Departmentof EducationissuesDepEdOrderNo.31, s. 2020 or the InterimGuidelinesforAssessmentand
Gradingin lightof the Basic EducationLearningContinuityPlan.
Thisis to provide guidance onthe assessmentof studentlearningandonthe gradingscheme tobe adoptedthis
school year2020-2021.
As DepEdpursueslearningcontinuity,itisimperative for schoolstotake stockof assessmentandgrading
practicesthat will most meaningfullysupportlearnerdevelopmentandrespondtovariedcontextatthistime.
The policyisgroundedonthe followingprinciples:
a. Assessmentshouldbe holisticandauthentic incapturingthe attainmentof the mostessential learning
competencies;
b. Assessmentisintegral forunderstandingstudentlearninganddevelopment;
c. A varietyof assessmentstrategiesisnecessary,withformativeassessmenttakingprioritytoinform teaching
and promote growthandmastery;
d. Assessmentandfeedbackshouldbe asharedresponsibilityamongteachers,learners,andtheirfamilies;and
e.Assessmentandgradingshouldhave apositive impactonlearning.

I. Introduction The Departmentof EducationissuesDepEdOrderNo.31, s. 2020 or the InterimGuidelinesforAssessmentand Gradingin lightof the Basic EducationLearningContinuityPlan. Thisis to provide guidance onthe assessmentof studentlearningandonthe gradingscheme tobe adoptedthis school year2020-2021. As DepEdpursueslearningcontinuity,itisimperative for schoolstotake stockof assessmentandgrading practicesthat will most meaningfullysupportlearnerdevelopmentandrespondtovariedcontextatthistime.
