Lab 1: VLAN Configuration I
Overview
This lab begins with a working internetwork with working configurations on all equipment. This lab
shows how to create and name a VLAN.

Detailed Lab Steps
Step 1. Connect to SW1 from the simulator user interface by using the password ciscopress.
Step 2. Enter privileged exec mode using the password ciscopress.
Step 3. Show the current VLAN setup by issuing the show vlan brief command. To which of
these VLANs are all the interfaces currently assigned? Is VLAN 2 included in this list?
vlans, 1, 1001, 1002, 1003,1004,1005 yes
vlan 2 does not exist

2. Step 4. Display the current configuration using the show running-config command. Does the
configuration list any commands that define the VLANs listed in the previous step?
Step 5. Move to global configuration mode using the configure terminal command.
Step 6. Create VLAN 2 and give it the name “Vlan_2” by issuing the vlan 2 command.
Step 7. Configure a name for the VLAN by using the command name Vlan_2_Accounting.
Step 8. Exit back to enable mode by issuing the end command.
Step 9. Show the current VLAN setup by issuing the show vlan brief command. What is the
status of VLAN 2? What interfaces are assigned to VLAN 2?
Step 10. Display the current configuration using the show running-config command. Is the
vlan 2 command included?

10 The vlan 2 command is not in the running-config file. VLAN configuration is not stored in the
running-config file on VTP servers and clients, but it is instead stored in the vlan.dat file in
flash.
