Introduction
 We live in a world of rapid technological advancement. Technology rules
our everyday lives. With diverse fields of engineering studies and medicine
like nuclear physics, relativity, information technology, gadgets and techs,
automobiles, power plants, pharmacology or any field of medical science;
science movie fictions are slowly turning in to reality.
 We have our human manpower getting replaced by all of our inventions. A
slight concept or a contraption that worked perfectly fine with the
experiments and redesigning of the same mixed together with huge effort,
dedication, study and coping up with failures gave birth to some great as
well as weird inventions what makes us different today.
Top 10 recent inventions
 We humans are ingenious groups in this world. Right from the moment
when someone rubbed two stones to light a fire, or bashed a rock to make
the first tool, to the development of Internet and Mars rovers, we have
already made some revolutionary advancements in several areas of science
and technology. Beginning from a nail or a wheel to compass and to
millions of new things that were never seen or felt before is a pure magic
with their ability to improve the quality of life and advancement in human
lives. Let us look at the top 10 greatest modern inventions.
1. Computer
 A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out an arbitrary set of
arithmetic or logical operations automatically. Their ability to follow a
sequence of operations, called a program, make computers very flexible and
popular. Such computers are used as control systems for a very wide variety of
industrial and consumer devices. This includes simple special purpose devices
like microwave ovens and remote controls, but more importantly in general
purpose devices like personal computers and mobile devices. The internet is
run on computers, and connects millions of these other computers.
 Conventionally, a modern computer consists of at least one processing
element, typically a central processing unit (CPU), and some form of memory.
The processing element carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a
sequencing and control unit can change the order of operations in response to
stored information. Peripheral devices allow information to be retrieved from
an external source, and the result of operations saved and retrieved.
 The first known use of the word "computer" was in 1613 in a book called The
Yong Mans Gleanings by English writer Richard Braithwait: "I haue read the
truest computer of Times, and the best Arithmetician that euer breathed, and
he reduceth thy dayes into a short number." It referred to a person who carried
out calculations, or computations. The word continued with the same meaning
until the middle of the 20th century. From the end of the 19th century the
word began to take on its more familiar meaning, a machine that carries out
computations.
 Charles Babbage, an English mechanical engineer and polymath, originated the
concept of a programmable computer. Considered the "father of the
computer",[14] he conceptualized and invented the first mechanical computer
in the early 19th century. After working on his revolutionary difference engine,
designed to aid in navigational calculations, in 1833 he realized that a much
more general design, an Analytical Engine, was possible.
 Eventually, the project was dissolved with the decision of the British
Government to cease funding. Babbage's failure to complete the analytical
engine can be chiefly attributed to difficulties not only of politics and
financing, but also to his desire to develop an increasingly sophisticated
computer and to move ahead faster than anyone else could follow.
 His son, Henry Babbage, completed a simplified version of the analytical
engine's computing unit (the mill) in 1888. He gave a successful
demonstration of its use in computing tables in 1906.
 The first modern analog computer was a tide-predicting machine, invented
by Sir William Thomson in 1872.
2. Smartphones
 The modernization of modern day communication started with the
invention of telephone by Graham Bell. It drastically reduced the amount
of time it took for communication with letters. It almost took ages for a
message to reach to a place through letters.
 Telephone made it instant to share voices to all the places. Mobile phones
invented in the year 1977, made communication easier, and comfortable.
 Improved versions of smartphones are available today due to the ever-
advancing technology.. It is amazing to know that almost half of the
people in the world own a smartphone today.
 A smartphone combines features of a personal computer operating system
with other features useful for mobile or handheld use. Smartphones, which
are usually pocket-sized, typically combine the features of a cell phone,
such as the ability to receive and make phone calls, with those of other
popular digital mobile devices.
 Other features typically include a personal digital assistant (PDA) for
making appointments in a calendar, media player, video games, GPS
navigation unit, digital camera, and digital video camera. Most
smartphones can access the Internet and can run third-party software
components ("apps").
 They typically have a color touchscreen graphical user interface that covers
70% or more of the front surface, with an LCD, OLED, AMOLED, LED, or
similar screen.

3. Solar power
 Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly
using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power
(CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and
tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.
 Solar power is arguably the cleanest, most reliable form of renewable
energy available, and it can be used in several forms to help power your
home or business. Solar-powered photovoltaic (PV) panels convert the
sun's rays into electricity by exciting electrons in silicon cells using the
photons of light from the sun.
 The early development of solar technologies starting in the 1860s was
driven by an expectation that coal would soon become scarce. However,
development of solar technologies stagnated in the early 20th century in
the face of the increasing availability, economy, and utility of coal and
petroleum.
 For several years, worldwide growth of solar PV was driven by European
deployment, but has since shifted to Asia, especially China and Japan, and
to a growing number of countries and regions all over the world, including,
but not limited to, Australia, Canada, Chile, India, Israel, Mexico, South
Africa, South Korea, Thailand, and the United States.
 Benefits of solar energy. It has lower cost. Solar energy is not only sustainable,
it is renewable and this means that we will never run out of it. It is about as
natural a source of power as it is possible to generate electricity. The creation
of solar energy requires little maintenance.

 Solar Heating
 Used on Satellite
4. Artificial intelligence
 Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence exhibited by machines. In computer
science, an ideal "intelligent" machine is a flexible rational agent that
perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of
success at some goal.
 Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine
mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human
minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving".[2] As machines become
increasingly capable, facilities once thought to require intelligence are
removed from the definition.
 For example, optical character recognition is no longer perceived as an
exemplar of "artificial intelligence" having become a routine technology.
Capabilities still classified as AI include advanced Chess and Go systems
and self-driving cars.

4. Robotics
 What else could be more inspiring other than the Hollywood fiction
movies in inventing robots? Robotics has been one of the most researched
and most worked area in field of engineering.
 Regarded to appear similar to human with the capability to perform every
possible work without anxiety or tiredness is what makes a robot. On the
other hand, the Artificial technology has already started showing its
pathway in modern day robots.
 Basically, AI is related to make excellent machines that uses ultra-
technology to perform its tasks.
 Inspired with the war machines and robots in films like the Terminator, Star
Wars and similar movies, engineers have spent a lot of their time,
technology and budget in creating such intelligence useful for several
household purposes, carpentry, fire-fighting, military applications and even
more promising applications like to perform several disaster operations
during floods, landslides, bomb diffusions etc.
 The UAVs and Drones robots are used to perform home jobs as well as in
securing borders by several countries like Japan and the United States.
6. Google glass
 Google Glass is an optical head-mounted display, that is designed in the shape
of a pair of eyeglasses. It was developed with the mission of producing a
ubiquitous computer.
 Google Glass displayed information in a smartphone-like hands-free format.
Wearers communicated with the Internet via natural language voice
commands.
 Google started selling a prototype of Google Glass to qualified "Glass
Explorers" in the US on April 15, 2013, for a limited period for $1,500, before it
became available to the public on May 15, 2014,[13] for the same price. The
headset has received massive criticism and legislative action due to privacy and
safety concerns.
 On January 15, 2015, Google announced that it would stop producing the
Google Glass prototype but remained committed to the development of the
product. According to Google, Project Glass was ready to "graduate" from X,
the experimental phase of the project.

7. Geolocation
 Geolocation is the identification of the real-world geographic location of
an object, such as a radar source, mobile phone or Internet-connected
computer terminal. Geolocation may refer to the practice of assessing the
location, or to the actual assessed location.
 Geolocation is closely related to the use of positioning systems but may be
distinguished from it by a greater emphasis on determining a meaningful
location (e.g. a street address) rather than just a set of geographic
coordinates.
 Internet and computer geolocation can be performed by associating a
geographic location with the Internet Protocol (IP) address, MAC address,
RFID, hardware embedded article/production number, embedded software
number (such as UUID, Exif/IPTC/XMP or modern steganography), invoice,
Wi-Fi positioning system, device fingerprint, canvas fingerprinting or
device GPS coordinates, or other, perhaps self-disclosed information.
 Geolocation usually works by automatically looking up an IP address on a
WHOIS service and retrieving the registrant's physical address.
8. Numeric Submarine
 A nuclear submarine is a submarine powered by a nuclear reactor. The
performance advantages of nuclear submarines over "conventional"
(typically diesel-electric) submarines are considerable.
 Nuclear propulsion, being completely independent of air, frees the
submarine from the need to surface frequently, as is necessary for
conventional submarines.
 The large amount of power generated by a nuclear reactor allows nuclear
submarines to operate at high speed for long periods of time; and the
long interval between refuelings grants a range limited only by
consumables such as food.
 Current generations of nuclear submarines never need to be refueled
throughout their 25-year lifespans.
 Conversely, the limited power stored in electric batteries means that even
the most advanced conventional submarine can only remain submerged
for a few days at slow speed, and only a few hours at top speed; recent
advances in air-independent propulsion have somewhat eroded this
disadvantage.
 The high cost of nuclear technology means that relatively few states have
fielded nuclear submarines. Some of the most serious nuclear and
radiation accidents ever to occur have involved Soviet nuclear submarine
mishaps
9. Cloud computing
 Cloud computing is a kind of Internet-based computing that provides
shared processing resources and data to computers and other devices on
demand.
 It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool
of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage,
applications and services),[1][2] which can be rapidly provisioned and
released with minimal management effort.
 Cloud computing and storage solutions provide users and enterprises with
various capabilities to store and process their data in third-party data
centers.[3] It relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and
economy of scale, similar to a utility (like the electricity grid) over a
network.
10. Autopilot system
 An autopilot is a system used to control the trajectory of a vehicle without
constant 'hands-on' control by a human operator being required.
 Elmer Ambrose Sperry invented the first autopilot, which he demonstrated
with startling success in France in 1914.
 Autopilots do not replace a human operator, but assist them in controlling
the vehicle, allowing them to focus on broader aspects of operation, such
as monitoring the trajectory, weather and systems.[1] Autopilots are used
in aircraft, boats (known as self-steering gear), spacecraft, missiles, and
others.

 The autopilot system on airplanes is sometimes colloquially referred to as
"George".
 In the early days of aviation, aircraft required the continuous attention of a
pilot in order to fly safely. As aircraft range increased allowing flights of
many hours, the constant attention led to serious fatigue. An autopilot is
designed to perform some of the tasks of the pilot.
 Generally, the pilot will handle takeoff and then initiate the autopilot to
take over for most of the flight. In some newer aircraft models, autopilot
systems will even land the plane. Aviation regulations vary between
countries, but in the U.S., at least two crew members must remain in the
cockpit at all times.

  • 3. Introduction  We live in a world of rapid technological advancement. Technology rules our everyday lives. With diverse fields of engineering studies and medicine like nuclear physics, relativity, information technology, gadgets and techs, automobiles, power plants, pharmacology or any field of medical science; science movie fictions are slowly turning in to reality.  We have our human manpower getting replaced by all of our inventions. A slight concept or a contraption that worked perfectly fine with the experiments and redesigning of the same mixed together with huge effort, dedication, study and coping up with failures gave birth to some great as well as weird inventions what makes us different today.

Right from the moment when someone rubbed two stones to light a fire, or bashed a rock to make the first tool, to the development of Internet and Mars rovers, we have already made some revolutionary advancements in several areas of science and technology. Beginning from a nail or a wheel to compass and to millions of new things that were never seen or felt before is a pure magic with their ability to improve the quality of life and advancement in human lives. Let us look at the top 10 greatest modern inventions.
  • 5. 1. Computer  A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out an arbitrary set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically. Their ability to follow a sequence of operations, called a program, make computers very flexible and popular. Such computers are used as control systems for a very wide variety of industrial and consumer devices. This includes simple special purpose devices like microwave ovens and remote controls, but more importantly in general purpose devices like personal computers and mobile devices. The internet is run on computers, and connects millions of these other computers.  Conventionally, a modern computer consists of at least one processing element, typically a central processing unit (CPU), and some form of memory. The processing element carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a sequencing and control unit can change the order of operations in response to stored information. Peripheral devices allow information to be retrieved from an external source, and the result of operations saved and retrieved.
  • 6.  The first known use of the word "computer" was in 1613 in a book called The Yong Mans Gleanings by English writer Richard Braithwait: "I haue read the truest computer of Times, and the best Arithmetician that euer breathed, and he reduceth thy dayes into a short number." It referred to a person who carried out calculations, or computations. The word continued with the same meaning until the middle of the 20th century. From the end of the 19th century the word began to take on its more familiar meaning, a machine that carries out computations.  Charles Babbage, an English mechanical engineer and polymath, originated the concept of a programmable computer. Considered the "father of the computer",[14] he conceptualized and invented the first mechanical computer in the early 19th century. After working on his revolutionary difference engine, designed to aid in navigational calculations, in 1833 he realized that a much more general design, an Analytical Engine, was possible.

Babbage's failure to complete the analytical engine can be chiefly attributed to difficulties not only of politics and financing, but also to his desire to develop an increasingly sophisticated computer and to move ahead faster than anyone else could follow.  His son, Henry Babbage, completed a simplified version of the analytical engine's computing unit (the mill) in 1888. He gave a successful demonstration of its use in computing tables in 1906.  The first modern analog computer was a tide-predicting machine, invented by Sir William Thomson in 1872.

It drastically reduced the amount of time it took for communication with letters. It almost took ages for a message to reach to a place through letters.  Telephone made it instant to share voices to all the places. Mobile phones invented in the year 1977, made communication easier, and comfortable.  Improved versions of smartphones are available today due to the ever- advancing technology.. It is amazing to know that almost half of the people in the world own a smartphone today.

Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.  Solar power is arguably the cleanest, most reliable form of renewable energy available, and it can be used in several forms to help power your home or business. Solar-powered photovoltaic (PV) panels convert the sun's rays into electricity by exciting electrons in silicon cells using the photons of light from the sun.

In computer science, an ideal "intelligent" machine is a flexible rational agent that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal.  Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving".[2] As machines become increasingly capable, facilities once thought to require intelligence are removed from the definition.  For example, optical character recognition is no longer perceived as an exemplar of "artificial intelligence" having become a routine technology. Capabilities still classified as AI include advanced Chess and Go systems and self-driving cars.

Robotics has been one of the most researched and most worked area in field of engineering.  Regarded to appear similar to human with the capability to perform every possible work without anxiety or tiredness is what makes a robot. On the other hand, the Artificial technology has already started showing its pathway in modern day robots.  Basically, AI is related to make excellent machines that uses ultra- technology to perform its tasks.

Wearers communicated with the Internet via natural language voice commands.  Google started selling a prototype of Google Glass to qualified "Glass Explorers" in the US on April 15, 2013, for a limited period for $1,500, before it became available to the public on May 15, 2014,[13] for the same price. The headset has received massive criticism and legislative action due to privacy and safety concerns.  On January 15, 2015, Google announced that it would stop producing the Google Glass prototype but remained committed to the development of the product. According to Google, Project Glass was ready to "graduate" from X, the experimental phase of the project.

  • 24. 7. Geolocation  Geolocation is the identification of the real-world geographic location of an object, such as a radar source, mobile phone or Internet-connected computer terminal. Geolocation may refer to the practice of assessing the location, or to the actual assessed location.  Geolocation is closely related to the use of positioning systems but may be distinguished from it by a greater emphasis on determining a meaningful location (e.g. a street address) rather than just a set of geographic coordinates.

Autopilot system  An autopilot is a system used to control the trajectory of a vehicle without constant 'hands-on' control by a human operator being required.  Elmer Ambrose Sperry invented the first autopilot, which he demonstrated with startling success in France in 1914.  Autopilots do not replace a human operator, but assist them in controlling the vehicle, allowing them to focus on broader aspects of operation, such as monitoring the trajectory, weather and systems.[1] Autopilots are used in aircraft, boats (known as self-steering gear), spacecraft, missiles, and others. 
