Introduction to Computer:
• In the early age Computer was known as a computing
device which is able to accepts input, processes data,
stores data, and produces output.
• But in this modern age, it is not only used in
computing. These days every single person is known
with the word-computer.
• We can find computers at everywhere around us. In
the current world today, everything related to your
everyday life is doing by using computers.
6
• Computer means much more than a PC. A computer can simply
be defined as a machine which takes instructions and perform
computations and operations accordingly. These commanded
instructions are known as programs and computers execute
these programs to do an operation.
• Computers are playing their vital roles efficiently in education,
medical service, GPS, ATM machines, cell phones, petrol
pumps, portable play stations, Shopping, banking, traveling,
stocking, literature, entertainment, public sector, private sector
etc and as well as In space technology.
• In fact modern world will be incomplete without computers
and their applications.

Introduction to space technology:
• Since the beginning of time, man has been
fascinated with the stars and sky.
• From the time the first man took his first step on
the moon, space exploration has been growing
and expanding. More and more people are
coming up with new ways on how to study the
universe.
• Space technology is that technology which is
related to entering, and retrieving objects or life
forms from space.
9
• The 1990’s contributed to the study of space with new
technology, intelligent astronauts, and future ideas.
• There have been numerous space launches throughout
this decade that made great impacts on the exploration of
space. For example, “On June 26, 1995, the Space Shuttle
Atlantis embarked on a rendezvous with Russian space
station Mir during a ten day mission on STS-71”
(Shipman 65).
• "Every day" technologies such as weather forecasting,
remote sensing, GPS systems, satellite television, and
some long distance communications systems critically rely
on space infrastructure. Of sciences, astronomy and Earth
sciences (via remote sensing) most notably benefit from
space technology.

Relationship Between computer and
Space Technology:
• This 21 century computer is the most important device
and plays a vital role in all workspace . And also without
computer we can’t think of space technology .
Computers have led to major advancements and
breakthroughs in space research.
• Every aspect of space technology, be it designing a
spaceship, its control and navigation, or compiling and
processing data, has all been done by computers. The
complicated arithmetical computations needed to fly
spacecraft’s, monitor the work of astronauts in space,
keep them alive, and analyze as well as interpret the
collected data, would be extremely difficult and take a
long time, if we don’t have computer. 12
• Communication with the mission craft is done with the
help of computers. Keeping in touch, transferring data,
power management, motion, movement, sending and
receiving new data or programming, is all done with the
help of computers.
• The robots or rovers that are sent on a space mission are
manipulated, controlled, and guided by computers. In
Space Photography there is no any alternative of
computer. Computers also has extend the possibilities of
space exploration by allowing scientists to perform space
simulations.
• In fact, computer technology and space research have
grown together. And one is part and parcel of another.

Use of computers in Space Technology
terms:
• Computers have led to major advancements
and breakthroughs in space research.
• The uses of computers is given below:
15
Designing the Spaceship:
• Computers help design the aircraft which is made from
equipment that is customized and highly sophisticated.
• This spacecraft has to endure various threats, and
numerous technicians and engineers plan its design and
working very minutely.
• After the spacecraft is built, it is run through many
automated tests, which are created by computers to
simulate cold, vacuum, and vibrations, that it will
encounter in space.
• Once it passes all these tests, it is ready to be launched.
16
Designing a Spaceship:
17
Planning and Preparation:
• Space missions need accurate planning and calculations
of the trajectories, propulsion, and path that a space
vehicle will take.
• It must be defined precisely after considering the
motions and gravitational forces of various celestial
bodies. The time, amount of fuel, duration of the
mission, everything needs to be exact.
• Even a millisecond of miscalculation can prove
disastrous. Considering all this, computers are used to
carefully plan and prepare the mission.
18

Fixing:
• The craft has in-built software for diagnostic tests
and updates, that are constantly run to check the
status of the equipment.
• If encountered with a problem, it reports it to the
team on Earth, which will give or suggest a
solution to that problem and get it solved.
• Many problems would go unreported, if not for
computers, which could prove disastrous to the
mission.

20
Navigation:
• Placing a spacecraft at the exact accurate position, its
trajectories, etc., all need to be precisely calculated.
• It is done in three dimensions. The engines that need
to fire up, their time and duration, are all taken care
of by computers.
• The navigation of the spacecraft and keeping a
spacecraft on its course is something that computers
monitor and keep in control 24/7.
21
In Space Imaging and Space
Photography:
• Computers, with the help of large telescopes,
capture high quality images of planets, the
Earth, moon, asteroids, stars, comets, galaxies,
other celestial bodies, and unknown matter that
exists within the universe.
• Digital photography has changed the ways of
astronomy, as we can alter the images and
colors, use filters and satellite information to
view the images more clearly.
• It is possible to enlarge images and see more
than we could with our naked eyes.
22

23
Data Analysis and Storage:
• Research data is so vast and huge that, manual storage of this
data would take years to keep. Computers play a vital role in the
storage, and sharing of this information.
• This technical information is collected, organized, and
maintained effectively by computers . For scientists it helps to be
able to stay updated and gather real-time information all around
the world.
• Various astronomical phenomena like black holes, quasars ,
pulser or even sunspots have unique signals and patterns.
Computer detect these patterns, so that the work of space
explorers becomes easier. 24
Communication and Robotics:
• Communication with the mission craft is done with
the help of computers.
• Keeping in touch, transferring data, power
management, motion, movement, sending and
receiving new data or programming , all are done
with the help of computers.
• The robots or rovers that are sent on a space mission
are manipulated, controlled, and guided by
computers.

26
Life Support for Astronauts
• Computer is used to control environmental systems
and living conditions of a spacecraft. It also monitor
the devices that keep the atmosphere in the
spacecraft healthy and liveable .
• The humidity controls, oxygen sensors, carbon
dioxide purifiers, thermostats, and other devices, are
kept in check by the computers.
•
• If any problems arise, the crew is immediately
alerted, and the problem is rectified.
27
Astronaut 28
Constant Vigilance:
• Computers constantly monitor and identify objects like
satellites , rockets and various celestial bodies that
orbit the Earth.
• It helps to catalog the data sent by various satellites
and space control centers.
• The United States Space Surveillance Network (SSN)
contains powerful radar sensors, highly effective
computers and tracking devices that are constantly
watch , send and receive a steady flow of information
from the satellites and centers.
29
Discussing on The Importance of
Computer in Space Technology:
• Computers are an important asset when it comes
to space exploration technology because with their
help researchers understood how many of the
secrets of the creation of the Universe have
happened.
• The reason why computers are so good at what
they do is because they have an amazing
processing power and are able do render data a lot
faster than the average person.
• Even astronauts rely on computers when they
need guidance for their ships and are totally blind
and helpless, without their help.
33
• Most of the technology used today in our space
exploration missions comes from help from computers.
Every field has benefited from computer's assistance
and thus, important breakthroughs have been
accomplished.
• There is no reason to doubt computers because they can
excel in areas where we could never begin to
comprehend.
• The space exploration field needs computers that are
capable to process huge amounts of information and
then render them into a simple form so that scientist
can use them for their own purposes.
• Every couple of months, computers get upgraded and
there is no way you can keep up with the technology.
34
Conclusion:
• The space exploration field needs computers
that are capable to process huge amounts of
information and then render them into a simple
form so that scientist can use them for their own
purposes.
•
• And there is no alternative way to gain success
in space research and related space technology.
• May be in future by using the computer man will
be capable of find out lives of another planet.
