• Calvaria – roof, flat dermal bones developed by Intramembranous Ossification
• Enveloped by periosteum
• Layers of bone beneath periosteum:
• Outer compact – strong
• Trabecular/Spongy – contains diploic veins
• Inner Compact - fragile
• Base of Neurocranium – lower part of skull formed by irregular bones, developed via
Endochondral ossification
