Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. 4. STEP 2 Once you’ve chosen your badge, click “Design this badge” to get started.

5. Choose your badge size. Each type of badge comes in a different set of sizes. Choose the one that’s right for you. STEP 3

6. Upload your logo. STEP 4

7. Insert your text. This can include your name, title or both. The text editor can have up to 7 text fields at once. STEP 5

8. The motto here is “THE BIGGER THE BETTER.” Make sure your text is big enough to be seen clearly from at most 5 feet away.* *TIP*

9. Personalize your badge. • Choose your layout. • Change colors to fit your theme. • You can even upload your own background images. STEP 6

10. To increase the legibility of your badge, place light colors behind dark text. The large degree of contrast makes text more easily read. *TIP*

11. Choose your border. We have different borders for different badges. (Prestige & Executive only) Choose the one that fits best with your design. STEP 7

12. Choose your fitting. There are 3 main types: • Magnetic Backing • Pin / Clip Backing • Combi-Clip Backing STEP 8

13. Once you’re finished designing your badge, click the “FINISHED DESIGNING?” button. A proof of your finished design will be automatically generated. STEP 9

14. Here is an example of your generated proof!
