1. Accomplishments during my tenor at AL RAMZ CAPITAL
Al Ramz Capital is considered to be one the leading equity brokerages in the
UAE. When I was hired in 2004, they had two separate offices located on the
trading floor of the Dubai and A.D exchange. During that time the only way for
clients to know local stock markets prices, or trade was via telephone. By day
end trade execution tickets were manually sent to the accounting division.
IT infrastructure of Al Ramz Capital in 2004:
1. Nine computers connected to a workgroup (not a domain) via UTP cables,
and to the internet through normal modem (not a router)
2. Simple Access Database that was not connected with markets
3. The following was NOT available or required major upgrading
Technological infrastructure
Internal Servers
Data Centre
Data Base
Desktop applications that facilitates in-house operations (HR, Customer
services and other operations)
Website
Online Trading
Official Email box
Recorded phone systems
Antivirus server to manage or scan all PC’s, there was unmanageable AV.
My mandate was to create and modernize the IT infrastructure, and I planned
based on the previous experience I had gained from undergoing several training
courses provided by the Turkish Central Bank while working with the IBM team
for 5 years.
One of the main courses that participated from IBM team was:-
How to expand the company technically. Which been applied at AL Ramz
Capital, please review "My accomplishments" file as shown on attachment.
How to manage the technical team.
Design, Implementation, Installation and administration Infrastructure,
Data Center and Disaster Recovery.
How to ensure and work within the scope of "Business Continuity".
IBM “AIX” OS. Design & implementation IBM Power machine
And clustering Database + Failover, online replication
Database Migration procedure with business continuity....etc.
2. I convinced both the ADX and DFM markets to allow live prices to display on a
ticker placed at Al Ramz’s headquarters (the only method previous to that was
via telephone) which gave AL RAMZ a competitive edge in the market by being
the first broker to do so.
The next step was to obtain approval for a remote Desktop trading application
which was also granted. This enabled Al Ramz to hire remote trading brokers
(i.e. did not have to be situated on the market floor) as well as customer services
officers in order to expand the business.
Later, I modernized the telephone operator system that was able to record all
conversations; this enabled Al Ramz to go back to the phone calls for client
disputes.
A new data base was also installed and internal servers for multiple applications.
I set-up a new Data Centre in less the one year to accommodate Al Ramz’s
aggressive expansion, and managed the following:
Built the new infrastructure using Cat6 and Cat7 cables.
Designed and built Data Center.
Installed 25 new servers for multi above applications and data base.
Installed Desktop applications to facilitate the HR, Customer Care and
other operations.
Installed active directory (domain) to manage and centralize all users and
computer accounts, and then terminated Workgroup.
Install Microsoft outlook email, and antivirus programs with central
management.
Created a website: www.alramz.ae.
Created online trades. With create special secure network for
that plus SSL.
Procured and installed backup software for periodical backup of our
database, mail box and all daily recordings.
We started to purchase more than 40 PC’s for employees.
Constructing Market Watch area for customers.
Connect to international Markets “Reuters”, “Bloomberg” and “Fidessa”.
Design, installation, implementation, and administration complete
infrastructures 6 branches connected to headquarter inside UAE.
3. I also modernized Al Ramz’s technological financial capabilities through
Bloomberg, Reuters and Fidessa.
Developed an emergency plan for any technical problems that may occur in
the data center without effecting end users.
This was achieved through:
Creating an alternative for all active points in the production data
center which are related to the day-to-day operations, and checking
such alternatives regularly.
Conducting regular maintenance for all production date center devices.
Conducting remote observation on the data center for the avoidance of
any electricity or cooling-related incidents or any other malfunction.
Regularly checking and implementing backups in order to ensure the
successful backup and saving of date inside and outside the
headquarters.
I also built two other disaster recovery data centers in Sharjah and Al Ain In order
to ensure the security of our data. The data saved was being directly
interchanged with headquarters (including the replication of entire
Database, mail box, recording system etc...)
Also one of the most important accomplishments which participated:-
1- Participate twice to change the location of Al Ramz Capital. Including plan,
implementation with complete infrastructure without any delay or problem.
2- Participation to design and implementation 4 times, for data base
migration.
Also created an experimental infrastructure in headquarter data center for
the following purposes:
To regularly check all backups so that faults are avoided during the
backup process using tape drive solutions.
To check new, updated or modified programs and applications before the
actual usage.
4. Each step or paragraph as indicated above, is an integrated project itself
which is:-
Plan.
Design.
Installation.
Implementation.
Administration and preferable follow-up after implementation.
In addition to the above, I have extensive academic experience which enables
me to combining a keen understanding of institutional business needs and a
perspective of users' needs, with the experience and knowledge in the mobilizing
ICT to meet those needs.
And make sure ensure the proper workflow of any business community, with a
primary focus on “Business Continuity”.
I have written technical reports and manuals that describe in full detail the
design, installation, implementation and operation of infrastructure. Network
equipment (routers, switches, firewall, iron port etc...), 3 data Centers, CC units
,firefighting system, monitoring Systems, UPS etc...).
I also designed, installed and implemented entire infrastructure using Cat7
cables.
Thanks to my academic qualification as well as 27 years of experience during
where have conducted several researches in my specialization, I acquired my
own practical approach in production and disaster recovery site server
distribution, installation, and implementation, as well as infrastructure design,
installation and implementation, and by virtue of such approach I can ensure a
smooth workflow in the production and disaster recovery date centers and control
any incident (if any) to avoid the occurrence of downtimes.
Now, I have resigned from the Company after I contributed to equipping it with
state-of-the-art technologies, as well as advanced features and strong
infrastructure, enabling Al Ramz to engage with local and global stock markets in
a fast and secured manner. The Company is now able to add and handle more
than 60 branches worldwide, and to control and recover any problem a as soon
as possible.
