6. Data
The recorded observations or measurement is known as
data. In Qualitative research data will be in descriptive
form while in Quantitative research it will be in numeric
form. Data is organized in tables, charts & graphs so that
it can be easily analyzed.
7. Types of Data
There are two types of data:-
1. Primary Data
2. Secondary Data
8. 1. Primary Data
Data that have been originally collected (Raw data) and
not undergo any sort of statistical treatment called
primary data. Assume we want to know the disable
persons in Faisalabad then we collect the data from
Faisalabad populations and then publicized it, is an
example of primary data.
9. 2. Secondary Data
Data that have undergone any sort of statistical treatment at least
once i.e, data have been collected, classified, tabulated or
presented in some form for a certain purpose called secondary
data. Suppose we are preparing a report on Faisalabad married
population and we take reference of the census published by
Government is an example of secondary data.
10. Method / source of data collection
There are different methods used for the collection of primary
and secondary data.
11. Collection of Primary Data
1. Observation
2. Personal interviews.
3. Collection through Questionnaire
4. Computer interviews
12. Advantages & Disadvantages of Primary Data
Advantages Disadvantages
Applicable and useable Expensive
Accurate and reliable Time consuming
Up-to-date Data may be not available immediately
13. Collection of Secondary Data
Collection of secondary data may be classified into internal secondary
data and external secondary data.
Internal secondary data: data generated within the organization itself,
such as salesperson reports, sales invoices, accounting record
External secondary data:
• Books
• Articles
• journals and newspapers
• Websites, Government Publications
14. Advantages & Disadvantages of Secondary Data
Advantages Disadvantages
Easily available It may be outdated
Inexpensive Data collection method and accuracy unknown
Less time consuming Unreliable
