2. Sharing Career Opportunities With our
Communities
It is our department’s (PIO/EPO) mission to promote and share the
opportunity that Gemini creates;
Our goal is to share the types of careers, and the people, that make
an observatory work;
The recently released Gemini career resources emphasize the
people of Gemini, their experiences, education and career paths;
Resources included a printed brochure and online video
interviews;
All materials are bilingual – English and Spanish.
7. Some Highlights…
Videos feature staff sharing their passion for work;
Staff participation boost’s morale;
As a “pilot project” initial response has been overwhelming
based on initial requests for printing brochures in our host
communities among teachers, students and parents.
8. Sharing our Experiences
During last AstroDay Chile over 1500 copies were picked up.
During JourneyThrough the Universe, over 3000 copies were
delivered.
During this school year we have given a dozen talks at
different schools (Hawai’i and Chile) and over 2000 brochures
have been delivered
At the last ASP meeting in July a poster and talk was
presented and over 1000 copies were requested.

Second addition in 2016 to include additional staff and
possible new partners.
Currently developing website tracking metrics including
demographic, dwell-time, etc.
11. Objectives/Goals
To increase observatory career and awareness and training
opportunities among local students and teachers and within
the existing local workforce;
Expand the relative percentage of local hires for key STEM
career-track positions;
Broaden (local) participation in observatory activities.
